I still hope the Rangers come back with a better offer.

I think Smoak is probably a better all-around hitter as far as OBP, being a switch-hitter, and being a better fit for Safeco, but I'm more than fine with Montero. Also, I don't think the Rangers have ever said they would give up Smoak, that's just always been speculation. And if they do give up Smoak, I don't expect there to be much, if anything else, in their offer.

I'm really curious about Adams and the other prospect from the Yanks. I'm guessing the third prospect will just be a throw-in, but I'm wondering if Adams has a legit chance to be a decent player. Three prospects sounds great, but if only one of them ends up being a player you didn't really maximize Lee's trade value.

Unless he happens to be a multiple year all-star. Which is what I believe we are getting.

Actually the 3rd prospect might be a good one too. I've been researching them this morning. We'll just have to wait and see.

Think back to what we gave up for Lee and what is coming back. Montero is a top 5 prospect. I doubt he catches but he will be a monster bat and he is close to the majors.

I just meant that quantity isn't always better than quality. There are times when you can get a better deal getting one guy than you can getting 3 guys from another team. But in no way was I complaining about Montero or Smoak. If we can get either of those guys, anything else is just gravy.

Seriously, when was the last time the M's had a catcher who could actually hit? Have they EVER had one? I don't think they have. I know Montero will probably not stick there, but it's exciting nonetheless.

Sounds like Zach McAllister is the third piece. His numbers aren't overwhelming, but the local guys seem to be surprised he was included as the 3rd prospect. Maybe a BOR guy, or middle relief.

I forgot to add -- let's just go ahead and hand the trophy to the Yanks now. :mj07:

Apparenty the deal is now off. :mj07: This is worse than General Hospital. Wouldn't be surprised if the M's are pushing hard to get Smoak from Texas now. I'm pretty bummed -- that would have been a great get from the Yanks.

Smoak would be much better. Plus you take talent from a division rival. Plus Texas would want us to pay for Lee's salary which equals more talent. I like it.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to get Smoak. I just KNOW that what the Yanks were offering was great, and we don't know what the Rangers are offering. Then again, it's reported that we actually turned down that Yankees offer because 'another team' came in pretty aggressively to top it.

It would be great if we could throw in another player and get someone else from the Rangers as well. I would be willing to ship most of our relievers for a bucket of balls; I wonder if TX would be dumb enough to actually give something up for one of them.

Yeah it was a good offer but Lee is one of the best hired guns ever. Plus you get two draft picks back. It should take a haul to get him.

Nice. Smoak and THREE other prospects. :mj06:

I wonder who they are? Lowe is one of the very few relievers the M's have who isn't awful, but he isn't even pitching this year so, meh...

You guys shouldn't have a problem taking the West now, to say the least. You'll also be a major contender to win the whole enchilada.

should and will, 2 different things...but definitely helps because we do not have a #1. Basically we have a 2 a couple 3s and acouple 4's. Should be fun to watch. No one thought they would be able to do anything because of the off the field situation.

Well Lewis, Hunter and Wilson have all pitched better than people expected this year, no? The SP for Texas has been better than I thought it would be, but I don't follow the team so maybe they were supposed to be better than I realized.

GL to you guys. I hate the Halos, so I hope you guys get it done...

One other thing I wanted to share. I thought this quote from mlbtraderumors.com was pretty funny:

4:47pm: The Yankees, not surprisingly, are livid with the Mariners, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (via Twitter). The Yanks thought they had a deal, but the Mariners told the Rangers they could have Lee if they included Smoak and there went the Yankees' hopes of getting Lee.

Fuck the Yankees. Screwing them in the process makes it even better.

With Cliff Lee on his way to Texas, right-hander David Pauley will start against the Yankees on Friday night.

It would have been a tough assignment for top prospect Michael Pineda to make his major league debut, so it's probably a good thing they used some restraint.

Pauley has tossed four scoreless innings over three appearances since being called up from the minors late last month. The 27-year-old right-hander has an 8.35 ERA over 12 appearances (five starts) in the big leagues.

They definitely have gotten it done this year but a lot and I mean A LOT of credit goes to Nolan Ryan. He brought a new attitude and non-pusiness to the mentality of the pitchers. They feel they are better than they really are. They go out thinking they better get 7 everytime out. The Rangers win in spite of Ron Washington. :toast:
