Steelers play Cleveland and then Detroit

Steelers have the same record as SD....beating Indy was there super bowl, and that's as close as they are coming this year.... :mj07: :mj07: :mj07: merry Xmas SD

I don't mean to start any controversy....I just saw that this was the case and SD just beat INDY and people were talking about SD now winning the SUPERBOWL...

Well, if Jack loses one and the Steelers and Chargers win out.....The Steelers are out of the playoffs. I am from Pgh and I want them in so bad but if Jack loses one and SD wins out, the Steelers are out!!

Just my opinion, but I think SD wins their last two games. Next week's game will be tough, but they are a better team than KC. The next game has them at home against Denver. I think those two teams are pretty evenly-matched. SD came very close to winning that first game at Denver. If Denver wins next week they have the division wrapped-up. I would think SD would have a lot more to play for than Denver, and I don't see them losing if that turns out to be the scenario. Like you said though, I think they would still have to get some help.

That makes no sense.

Jacksonville is 10-4, the Steelers and Chargers are tied at 9-5 and the Chiefs 8-6 -- four teams for two wild-card playoff spots....

If the Steelers and Chargers end in a two-way tie, the Steelers will get in, but if the Steelers win their final two, the Chargers win their final two and the Jaguars split, the Steelers would become the first 11-5 team in two decades not to make the playoffs.

AM i missing something here? they are tied right now and you're saying if they end in a tie, steelers get in. But if the Jags split and the chargers win out and the steelers win out, the steelers dont make it. How does that make sense when they will STLL be TIED!

sd has a difficult final 2 games.beating den will not be easy. do you really think den would lay down to let a div opponent get in the playoffs. den will be plenty motivated. besides, a win by den would probably guarantee a bye week 1 - if they don't already have it nex week.

on a side note, who wants to see marty blow another playoff game? anyone?

let's see, i could keep moving the ball at will against the jets or i could jog keading (rookie kicker)out their for a 40yd kick on wet turf......

Pittsburgh beat San Diego head-to-head, so they win that tie-breaker if they end up tied with each other.

However, when you add the third team (Jacksonville) to make it a three-way tie, the head-to-head tiebreaker is thrown out. Head-to-head wins are only used if all 3 teams played against each other during the regular season, and they didn't. At that point it comes down to the next tiebreaker which is record within the conference. San Diego would be 9-3 and get the 5 seed. Jax would be 8-4 and finish 6th. Pitt would be 7-5 - and out.

I also heard if Pittsburgh loses a game and Kansas City wins out, KC is in -- Pittsburgh, SD out.

That makes sense too. KC would have a better record than SD... and a better conference record than Pitt. So KC would be the 6 seed. In fact, I see KC could even get the 5 seed should KC win out, Pitt lose one, and Jax lose both. KC would then have a better conference record than Jax. Jax would take 6th ahead of Pitt in this scenario too.

This is why I expect KC to play especially hard against SD....That one could end up being a great one to watch!

Elvis,

I never meant to imply that Denver would lay down in their final game against SD. However, I don't think motivation is as black and white as others might. I think there are multiple levels of motivation for a game. For instance, of course Denver will be motivated to beat a division foe and possibly knock them out of the playoffs. Also, a bye could be at stake for them if they win. However, losing the game would not mean as much to them as it would the Chargers. The Chargers would be in a position where they MUST win the game just to get into the playoffs (and still need outside help). This is of course assuming SD beats KC this weekend. I just think WANTING to win a game and HAVING to win a game are two completely different mindsets. That's the whole reason I loaded up on SD to beat Indy last weekend. Of course it doesn't always turn out that the team who has to win wins. But I think it's a factor that definitely favors the team who is in the must-win situation.

Thanks for clarifying GM...that sucks. Lets go chiefs and Jax...Right? LOL
