Tickets for this event are not going fast.
I can go to the Toyota Center website and get cage side row 4 right now.
This crowd could be pathetic.
I'm not surprised. SF are not making the most of there opportunity. Fighters are disillusioned with going so long between fights, the matchmaking makes no sense at the best of times, they suck at building stars - take King Mo. A big part of getting the viewers to like\be interested in him is show his entrances. But no they get edited out. Ok that is largely down to the TV station. And the commentating is is just awful.
Well I think the biggest problem in ticket sales is POOR marketing. The only time I have seen it mentioned on tv here is on Versus during the WEC card and I think that was only once.
The local news is ignoring it and local channels have had zero advertisements for it. So Strikeforce is not willing to pay the cash to advertise for ticket sales.
When the UFC was here GSP/Serra then I saw billboards, newspaper ads, and mentions of it on the news and tv spots and many different channels.
I am sure the casual MMA fan in Houston may have no idea the event is tonight.
Here is a thought from a guy on covers staff. Oh how true this is. Is it possible
Gurgel tries to once again out box someone with significantly better hands? If he does it this time than the doctor should be sued for letting him fight.
Jorge Gurgel (+200) vs. K.J. Noons (-300)
Gurgel may waste more talent, pound for pound, than any other fighter in the sport. An excellent Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, Gurgel fell victim to every moderate step up in competition by employing a horrific game plan each time.
Despite his significant submission skills, he prefers to please the fans and stand up and bang. The problem is that his opponent on Saturday, KJ Noons is a trained and savvy former professional boxer.
He might not have been the greatest in the squared circle, but his punching skills are far superior to most fighters in the sport.
Not sure though it may have something to do with his gameplans but his knees have been shot since the beginning of his career
could be that...all his actual submissions came in his first 9 fights...maybe the knees went...or maybe once he moved up against better talent, the submissions that worked on c and d level fighters just weren`t getting it vs b level guys....
