I just feel like if you are going to ask someone for the type of money I deal with you should look like you deserve it.

Yeah, when writing those $200 premiums to little old ladies, you should definitely wear a suit, if not a tuxedo.

On the course!
Is "personal hygiene" something you do for yourself, Jack? The answer, in most cases, is no. We "take care of ourselves", to impress others. We care about the impression we leave on others. We wear deodorant, because we don't want other to think that we smell funny. We comb our hair, so others won't make fun of it. We iron our shirts for the same reason, and so on.

If it's Sunday, and you are just going to lay on the couch all day, do you always take a shower, and comb your hair? You know you are a liar if you say you always have/do! It's not the same as presenting yourself to others.

Fading custom? No doubt about it. Just like many others. Take a man holding a door for a woman, or offering his seat in a crowded room, or a bus/train. But, IMO, a suit will always look nicer than a guy in a polo shirt, same way a Caddy will look nicer than a Taurus.

And if your tie is killing you in the 90 degree heat, your collar is probably too tight, and it's not a tie issue at all.

Ties are pointless, ridiculous and extremely uncomfortable. Aside from having to wear one with my dress greens in the Army (even then I wore a clip-on, laugh all ya want), i've worn a tie maybe 10 times in my life. 2 times where my sisters made me at their wedding. 1 time for high school graduation and about 7 other times where a girlfriend made me for one event or another.

I don't wear one to weddings or funerals. For what!?

I don't mind putting on a suit or a sportscoat with a dress shirt or a mock turtleneck, but screw the tie.

I usually reserve the suit and tie for days when I have to go to Court...most other days I dress business casual. However, I do keep a suit and tie at the office in case of emergencies.... I learned my lesson early on when I was called to a Judge's chambers and I had on jeans and a baseball cap that day...and as a young attorney, felt like a smuck. The good thing was that that particular Judge was very cool and didn't mind at all.

yeah, and if you have a job where you are forced to wear a suit and tie because that is what the standard is, be it banking or whatever else, I hate wearing the crap also, but is it worth quitting over it, of course it's a hassle but it's mainly an issue in warm summer weather where it is extremely uncomfortable, unless you own your own business someone else unfortunately makes the rules, and I hate rules, but lots of times you have no choice but to follow them if you want to keep getting a paycheck

Well of course there's nothing you can do about it if your job requires it. And no, if you like your job it's not worth quitting over. Beyond that though....

well, just about everyone I have met in my life doesnt "like" their job, they tolerate it either because they cant find something else, or they get paid well for what they do........so you can't just quiit if you dont like something, I know you are far removed from and hate NYC for no reason, but walk around there and I hate suits and ties too I am just stating facts, that you see loads of people in that shit, luckily in the summer most places dont require it on some days, but for the big $ banking type stuff it does at least 4 days a week maybe no casual fridays, but lets not act like everyone has the luxury of wearing whatever the fu*k they want all the time, you do have to answer to "the system" as much as I hate it

Where the f*ck in my post did I 'act' like everyone has the luxury of wearing what they want.

I said it can be a necessity for work and so be it. Otherwise I have no use for it. That's all I said, jackass!

You try to have arguments even when there isn't one there.

just wondering

I'm a CPA who has to wear whatever my client wears when I'm working with them.

These a-holes I've been working with for the last 2 weeks wear ties, and they're a damn Trucking Company? WTF?

Their drivers wear jean shorts and wife beaters, yet I've got to wear a tie. bullchit.

No, well you stated that "If you like the job then I wouldnt quit over it, beyond that though" I never said I like it either, I only said it's a part of life, how often is it forced upon anyone anybody, maybe once or twice a year tops for either church/temple, a wedding, or a funeral? Is it really too much of an inconvinience for you? I wasn't trying to have an argument, just apparently read what you said wrong
