Although it is not an exorbitant amount of money, it is unexpected and very nice. What is everybody going to do with their rebate to be recieved this late summer/fall? 300 if u r single, 500 if single with dependants, and 600 if married.

I think I'm going to buy some shotgun shells for my hunting trip to Alberta this fall

(Isn't there a poster in this forum from Alberta?) Can't wait as they are nearly a dollar a shell.

Give us areal break like I said before about 1500 bucks. This little amount will not to much for the economy. You just cant spend it on very big of a item to do much. The rest will be smoke and mirrors. Don't forget whatever amount you get you have to claim as income next tax season.

best idea to revive and economy and keep your taxes at work:

pick ten ss numbers at random every month, where holder gets 100,000.- tax free. how is that for the economy? it is a mere 12 million a year. we could do 100 a month, 1,000. break it down by states, any other way it makes sense. there are so many possibilities. whatever it takes. and what an incentive for dead-beats.

Sorry for being a jackass, but what rebate/refund are we talking about? Did uncle sam lay a gratuity on us all? Please lay it on me (details) I've had my head stuck so far up baseball statistics that I've missed out on all the current events. Only thing I've heard is that McVeigh got fried

Kevin--

Good work in the 'capping contest...keep up the great work, bud.
The Federal Government has decided to give everyone who has an adjusted income of greater than 12,000 yearly a tax rebate. If you are single with no dependents, you get 300 dollars. Single, with dependents , you get 500, and if you are married, you get 600 bones.
I think this is how it works, but don't hold me to it. You should see the money sometime this fall-- starting in September is what they have been saying.

Just in time for me to lose it betting football and the baseball playoffs.....

Hope this clears up the mystery for you.

Sincerely,

Gary Redus

I like Pepins idea. They should give you a choice to take the money or throw it into the I.R.S lottery pool. I guarantee most people would take the chance and I'm sure EVERYBODY at Mjs would roll the dice.

I'm very happy with a $600 tax refund! As much as i would like to put it into my bankroll for football, i will save it towards xmas.
Also the first checks will be sent out on July 20 using your last two digits in your social security #.
Starting with 00. My # ends in 64 so mine will be sent off in Sept.Tax free too! I'll take it.

scrubbo/all:

our government spends billions like we spend 100s or 1,000s. what is wrong with budgeting 1 billion, or half a billion, or whatever, to throw around in a ss lottery, split into 50gs, 100gs, etc.? we don't have to gamble anything, we are already providing all of that tax money.

this certainly is a lot better than state lotteries, where 1 winner takes all from everybody's pockets. that one winner will only buy one or two cars, one or two houses, etc, if it doesn't go straight in the bank.

my idea is to take money they have already taken from our pockets and spread it around at random, and not as a negotiated package by our legislators.

this is the kind of money that is spent on housing, cars, etc., and this really moves the economy. i certainly would put 100,000 to work right away; home improvement, about 30thou, a couple of updated cars (i don't buy new), about 30thou, give 10thou away to relatives and the rest, you guessed it, play money!!

what the heck is wrong with that? now, if i don't get it and any of you do, well, enjoy it. that will make me happy as well.

300, 600, that is a night at the races.

And Pep for those who think it's tax free. Well when you do your taxes next spring you get to claim it. And not to worry they will get it out your pockets another way. They will just up the taxes on Beer, Gas, or the states will ask for a little.

Bluegrass!
If ya didn't know, the state of Kentucky is the WORST state in the U.S. when it comes to paying for taxes. They tax you on nearly EVERYTHING!!! They just recently repleaded the Provider tax which stated that the individual pharmacy owner had to pay the state of Ky. $.25cents for every prescription dispersed. May not sound like a lot, but when you're filling nearly 800 Rx's a day, it becomes quite burdesome. They have a pretty hefty state tax and then you got to throw in your local taxes which makes up 1 1/2 percent of total gross. And I just LOVED this one! I recently bought my wife a car, and I bought it in Jackson, MS b/c she has a lot of family down there and they knew the Ford dealership and its owners very well. I traded in her minivan and thus I was under the impression that I would only have to pay tax on the difference between the two vehicles. I get back to our wonderful state and pay our county clerk's office a visit, and they inform me that I am responsible for paying tax on the entire purchase price of the NEW vehicle. I about lost my chit and asked them "why"? The reason they said was b/c I bought the truck out of state. If I would have purchased the truck inside the state of Kentucky, then the difference b/t the two vehicles would have applied! A big bunch of horse chit!!!!!!!!

And this one always gets me! If I get a refund check from the state of Kentucky b/c of overpayment of taxes throughout the year, then I have to claim that as income for my federal taxes?????????????????????????
