"I?m not a normal Republican," he said to huge cheers at a rally in Warren, Michigan. "Of course, my penis is normal Republican size. Okay? Normal! I guarantee."

Trump paused to take in the applause before taking his penis out to show the cheering crowd.

"Now, who thinks Obama was born in Kenya?" Trump asked the crowd, apparently forgetting to put his penis back in his pants.

"YOU are my people! You know that? I love you," Trump exclaimed before noticing his penis beginning to swell.

A staffer scurried onto the stage to zip up the Republican frontrunner as he began to riff about the horrors of Mexicans, Muslims, and common decency

Political commentary and Opinion page columns from Kyle Wingfield

Face it, Republicans: Donald Trump has already cost you this election

that* way if someone else is nominated.

The latest round of primaries is over, and Republican hand-wringing is in full swing. Should they bow to Donald Trump?s insurgency? Can Ted Cruz still beat him? (Do they even want Cruz to win?) Should they find a Republican to run an independent campaign against Trump if he?s the nominee? What?s their best chance of keeping control of the Senate?

To answer those questions, they must start from one crucial premise: The November election is already lost. Pretending otherwise will only lead to worse outcomes in the long run.

Trump has assured the split in the party will come, and that it will be deep. With every new low he hits, he pushes more traditionally Republican voters away.

But with every victory he notches, he also assures a larger segment of the electorate won?t stand for a different nominee. After Tuesday?s results, he warned/threatened ?you?d have riots? if he were denied despite having a plurality of delegates. Never mind that the rules allow for just such a scenario: ?I wouldn?t lead it,? he said Wednesday, ?but I think bad things would happen.?

Feel free to picture him winking before that ?but.?

So it?s very likely that Trump can?t count on a lot of traditionally Republican voters, and that a more traditional Republican nominee, including Cruz, can?t count on Trump?s backers. That is not a recipe for general-election success. It?s how Hillary Clinton wins a landslide.:mj07:

But landslide or not, a Clinton victory in November looks more likely than ever. Indeed, imagining a scenario in which the Democrat doesn?t defeat this divided GOP is what?s becoming more and more difficult.

Trying to paper over the wide differences within the GOP that have been exposed during this primary season would, then, be futile. Freed from that impulse, however, what leaders the party has left might identify different priorities.

The GOP that is slouching toward Trump is not one that can win in future years, either. It?s not just that the ?movement? Trump claims to lead has no unifying theme beyond his own proclaimed greatness at making deals and, well, being himself. (Here?s another actual thing Trump said in the afterglow of Tuesday, this one about whom he consults on foreign policy: ?I?m speaking with myself, number one, because I have a very good brain, and I?ve said a lot of things.?)

It?s also because the ?movement? Trump claims to lead is one that, by definition, cannot grow because it is predicated on pitting certain people against virtually everyone else. It is a self-limiting movement, the biggest limitation being the number of people who might want to join it.

The portion of the GOP stopping short of joining Trump, then, must ask themselves a question: Is their party really better off for the direction, and tone, and paucity of thought, and reliance on personality and ego he has given it? Or would it be better off without him and his thinking, such as it is?

That party might be able to fix the problems to which he has given a voice but little actual thought or hope of a solution. But it won?t come about as long as Republicans pretend they?re still fighting for November, and not everything that comes after.

Sen. Lindsey Graham will soon raise money for Ted Cruz's presidential campaign, as CNN's Dana Bash just reported.

Which is an amazing turn of events, given the things Graham previously said about Cruz. He has said on multiple occasions that Cruz is would be the death of the Republican Party and is no better than Donald Trump. He has even joked about killing Cruz.

Feb. 26: ?I was asked the hardest question in my political life: Do you agree with Donald Trump that Ted Cruz is the biggest liar in politics?? he said. ?Too close to call.?

Feb. 26 (a joke, but still): ?If you killed Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate, and the trial was in the Senate, nobody would convict you,? Graham said, referencing the Tea Party senator?s unpopular reputation with his colleagues.

Feb. 4: "If you're a Republican and your choice is Donald Trump and Ted Cruz in a general election," he said, "it's the difference between poisoned or shot -- you're still dead."

Feb. 4: On the question of foreign policy, the Texas senator is "just as wrong as Obama, if not worse."

Jan. 21: ?If you nominate Trump and Cruz, I think you get the same outcome,? he told reporters. ?Whether it?s death by being shot or poisoning doesn?t really matter. I don?t think the outcome will be substantially different.?

Dec. 3: "?If the nominee of the Republican Party will not allow for an (abortion) exception for rape and incest, they will not win,? Graham said. ?Ted Cruz doesn?t have an exception for rape or incest.?

Dec. 2: "Ted Cruz's foreign policy has been uneven and he has done more to allow ISIL to gain a foothold in Syria than any Senator other than Rand Paul."

Dec. 2: "I think [Ted Cruz] is an opportunist, he's a libertarian when it is hot."

It's clear what Graham is doing here: He's decided that Cruz is the lesser of two evils when it comes to two likeliest GOP nominees (Cruz and Trump).

But when it comes to suddenly supporting a man you said horrible things about just a few weeks ago, he's giving Chris Christie a run for his money

Lindsey is a bigger loser than Cruz

he reminds me of whinerguy

We now have a Muslim government.

John Brennan, current head of the CIA converted to Islam while stationed in
Saudi Arabia.

Obama's top adviser, Valerie Jarrett, is a Muslim who was born in Iran
where her parents still live.

Hillary Clinton's top adviser, Huma Abedin is a Muslim, whose mother and
brother are involved in the now outlawed Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.

Assistant Secretary for Policy Development for Homeland Security, Arif
Aikhan, is a Muslim.

Homeland Security Adviser, Mohammed Elibiary, is a Muslim.

Obama adviser and founder of the Muslim Public Affairs Council, Salam
al-Marayati, is a Muslim.

Obama's Sharia Czar, Imam Mohamed Magid, of the Islamic Society of North
America is a Muslim..

Advisory Council on Faith-Based Neighborhood Partnerships, Eboo Patel, is a
Muslim.

Nancy Pelosi announced she will appoint Rep Andre Carson, D-Ind,
as the first Muslim lawmaker on the House of Representatives Permanent
Select Committee on Intelligence. It would make Carson the first Muslim to
serve on the committee that receives intelligence on the threat of Islamic
militants in the Middle East! He has suggested that U.S. schools should be modeled after Islamic madrassas, where education is based on the Quran!!!

we are losing America

Cruz vacates the race after winning a handful of states and demonstrating some degree of savviness when it comes to meticulously working the delegate selection process.

There is one thing he might consider doing differently, however: Maybe don?t be a huge prick to everybody. Maybe just cut back on the whole being-a-prick thing by, like, 50 percent. Give that a try.

Think about it: At a time when Cruz needed everything possible to break his way in Indiana to forestall Trump running the tables and making it certain he?d get the number of delegates he needed to claim the GOP nomination outright, you got former Speaker of the House John Boehner describing Cruz as ?Lucifer in the flesh.? Boehner went on to say, ?I have never worked with a more miserable son of a bitch in my life.?

This is not good! And one has to wonder, could it have been avoided? What if Ted Cruz had not been, at all times, a maximal jackass? What if he?d been a little bit friendlier? What?s happening in the parallel universe where Ted Cruz had actual friends, or at the very least, colleagues who aren?t personally repelled by the very thought of him?

Here are some of the things that the people who should like Ted Cruz, because he pretty much shares their baseline conservative values, have said about him, because he is such a huge dick:

?Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.): ?If you killed Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate, and the trial was in the Senate, nobody would convict you.?
?Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah): ?He?s not one of those who really does a terrific job in the Senate.?
?Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.): ?You learn that in kindergarten ? you learn to work well together and play by the rules. Another thing you learn in kindergarten is to respect one another.?
?Former Sen. Bob Dole: ?I don?t know how he?s going to deal with Congress. Nobody likes him.?
?Bonus Lindsey Graham, on the choice between Cruz and Trump: ?It?s like being shot or poisoned. What does it really matter.?
?Random person from Indiana: ?You look like a fish monster.?

Now, here are the sorts of things that Cruz might have preferred to hear people saying about him:
??If you killed Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate, it would be truly sad, because we love that guy. We?d definitely seek justice.?
??He does such a terrific job in the Senate. I?m always striving to be more like him.?
??He totally learned all the right lessons from kindergarten.?
??He?s going to be such a success with Congress. Everyone really likes him, because he?s so respectful and good-hearted.?
??The choice between Trump and Cruz is like being shot or having the best day of your life, filled with cake and balloons, surrounded by all the people you love, feeling for one perfect moment as if everything is right in the world and being thankful that you?re alive.?
??You remind me of fish because you?re delicious and packed with nutrients.?

You see how there are some subtle but important differences? That?s the sort of thing people say about you when you don?t treat your colleagues like dirt, and cause unnecessary government shutdowns in an attempt to grandstand on the backs of your nominal allies.
