Stan - really like the Pavel play; 2-0 over Kiefer this season on carpet and hardcourt, Kiefer not impressive on clay recently..
Is Pavel over that injury which saw him withdraw v Kafelnikov?

Anders, to be honest I haven't heard any further news about his lower back injury. In tennis, I do downplay these things (maybe to my peril) because so many people withdraw at the last minute from the 1st round rather than start their match. Alexander Popp did so yesterday and there were 3 or 4 that did so last week, hence the 'luckly losers' that take their place.

If Pavel is feeling the injury he will withdraw before the match because he will not want to hand victory to a player who is his lastest doubles partner; a good source of rivalry. And yes, I agree, Pavel has much the better game for Euroclay and he showed that in this event last year when he reached the semi-final, whereas Kiefer had not returned since losing in the 1st round here in 1998
