ATP and ITF tournaments (men's pro tennis)..........
In doubles you are allowed to switch the server at the start of every set, in other words you can have one guy serving way more then his partner. This always annoyed the hell out of me, made no sense at all. In doubles you rotate serve between the 4 players (2 players on each team) but when a set is complete the rotation stops and you can "start over". Why in the love of fuck would you just not continue the rotation the entire match? That is the fair way to do it. Because of this rule you can play a doubles match where one person serves way more then the other one does. It doesn't sound like a big deal but trust me it is, breaking serve in men's tennis is next to impossible, if you are playing a team where one guy has a huge serve and the other guy doesn't, why should they be awarded for not having a "complete game" (the guy with a weak serve does not serve proportionally to his partner). But if you had "fair chance" (both guys served equally) of breaking serve then that would drastically change things.
I lost so many close doubles matches simply because the one guy on the other side of the net had a massive serve that we could not break, why the fuck is one guy allowed to serve more then his partner, the fact that this is allowed is just stupid.
I can't think of any other sport where something like this is allowed to happen?
And yes UGA12 rule about the divot is also a good example of a dumb rule, but in that case I do see why the rule is in place. Just imagine if every pro golf tour out there allowed players to change their lie, just think of all the cheating that would take place, any bad lie "hey look it is in a divot". So I agree it is totally unfair to put the ball in the middle of the fairway and it lands in a divot, but I see why the rule is in place.
