"A crucial point is that the loosened guidelines probably did not cause many people to change their behavior in ways that created new risks," Leonhardt writes. "Vaccinated people went maskless more often, but they are extremely unlikely to get the virus. And even before the CDC change, many unvaccinated Americans were already not wearing masks, particularly in Republican-leaning communities."

"The typical mask you buy in the drug store is not really effective in keeping out virus, which is small enough to pass through material," Fauci wrote on Feb. 5, 2020

I love it. Wacky lib cousin in Spain was up in arms about CDC guidance shift. I told her that I bet 50% of the country and climbing (now 62%) had a positive test or at least one vax shot. That?s enough antibodies to drop positivity rate substantially.

Democrat-led Louisiana, which has a meager 30% vax rate, had statewide mask mandate in place. Our governor immediately dropped mandate in accordance with CDC. Democratic-led New Orleans had incredibly strict guidelines from our wildly liberal mayor, so masks were everywhere until she dropped mandate 2 days later. Cases and positivity rates have continued to plummet locally and statewide.

I know that I didn't catch a cold for the first Winter in 30 years. I never got the Covids, too!

Flu? What flu?

Just lucky, I guess......

So, masks cause Covid?

Lol i agree. To me, there is no question that masking, and IMO even more so distancing, helped slow the spread of disease. And, if scared or compromised folks opt to mask up or isolate for covid fear or in flu season(whenever that may be LOL), they should feel free. I just want the government out of our business and am glad it worked out after the guidance shift bc my concern was any uptick would bring back the masking/distancing

I agree. Who cares if it spreads other than the vulnerable and they should be the ones protecting themselves. That needs to happen for immunity.

Less than 0.002% of the population has died from it based on the government numbers and that wouldn't have been as bad if they would have focused on the vulnerable rather than sacrificing 99.998% of the population.

Based on recent development , does anyone remember seeing Cuomo tell Fauci how De Niro and Pacino could play the two in a movie? I think Redford and the late Paul Newman would be better pair........That has to STING :0008

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself" is a partial quote.
What FDR really said is:
"We have nothing to fear but fear itself. And polio. Polio sucks."

I would not argue that COVID is not scary. Still, this is still that lottery - if you are lucky to be ill in a mild form, or you will have to be ill, and then live your whole life with the consequences of the virus. I want to be optimistic, but I don?t want to forget about the real danger.
