I disagree and still think that it was correct to to what we did.

And that's fine... I have my beliefs, but can see both sides of the argument. I just can't believe that there are still people out there that think Iraq was actually was actually behind the attack (again, no one in here).

Takes rebel stand to oppose Alito OK for Supremes

By RICHARD SISK
DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU

WASHINGTON - Sen. Hillary Clinton yesterday backed a rebel band of Senate Dems seeking to filibuster a vote on the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Samuel Alito.
Democratic leaders had warned that filibuster efforts were going nowhere and would let President Bush score easy political points, but Clinton said, "I oppose his nomination and support efforts to block his confirmation."

Cindy Sheehan Considering Senate Run

Saturday, January 28, 2006

CARACAS, Venezuela ? Cindy Sheehan, the peace activist who set up camp near President Bush's Texas ranch last summer, said Saturday she is considering running against Sen. Dianne Feinstein to protest what she called the California lawmaker's support for the war in Iraq.

"She voted for the war. She continues to vote for the funding. She won't call for an immediate withdrawal of the troops," Sheehan told The Associated Press in an interview while attending the World Social Forum in Venezuela along with thousands of other anti-war and anti-globalization activists.

Regardless of what the democrats think, they are on the wrong side of this issue as usual. They are coming off as being more concerned with the civil rights of someone talking to known terrorist associates than the safety of Americans!!!

Democrats are just playing the role given to them in the scheme of life. Someone has to dissent, particularly in defense of the Bill of Rights. Unfortunately for the Democrats, it is very difficult to defend a "concept" against palpable "fear."

That's why you make a good point, steve2881. Most folks will side with the President on this question. I think we should all recognize this. The fear is stronger than the 4th Amendment. Safety from bad people out there is a greater concern than some moldy, old, esoteric, legal idea.

The Founders were aware of this, which is why they built checks and balances into our system. The President cannot act as he pleases. His power is limited by the Legislative and Judicial arms of government. And though many of the posts in this forum protest that George W. Bush is no tyrant, our system is not geared to accept such statements at face value.

So while it may be fun to bash the Dems on this issue, it is well to remember that they are only playing the hand that our Constitution deals them.
