....than calling a fight exactly right and being robbed.
I can take losing a bet. Pavlik over Hopkins. Margarito over Mosley. Fights I just didn't see right. I can accept losing money like that. Clearly part of the game. We all make bad calls.

But what happened tonight in the Martinez-Cintron fight makes me sick to my g damn stomach.

Sorry to give this it's own thread guys. but I need to rant.

I have been following Cintron's career for a while now. I knew full well this cat would be WAY too much for Kermit.

My largest wager tonight was on Sergio Martinez. I posted earlier in the week in a few spots that, I believed, he was going to whip his ass over 12 rounds. That it could be a late KO or a wide UD. I was damn proud as the fight began to play out.

I have NEVER EVER experienced anything like this fight....and I have bet hundreds, maybe thousands, of matches.

Never have I seen a ref stop the fight and be convinced by the fighter to allow it to continue. AFTER A 3 MINUTE REST !
A guy gets knocked out and gets to keep fighting AFTER A REST PERIOD !
Outrageous.

Then we have the inept judging. INEPT.

Lederman had the fight 3 to 3 afer 6 rounds. I disagree with this, but let's give Cintron the benefit of the doubt. On my card, following that round, I gave Cintron round 10. No more. Martinez dominated him. 11 and 12, as weasel pointed out, were clear cut Martinez rounds.

The minute the point got deducted in the 12th, Thong posted "here comes a majority draw". I thought to myself, not a chance. No judge could have this even close.

and it's a fuking DRAW. I nearly smashed my plasma TV. My girl is still trying to calm me down hours later. I have ruined her Valentine's Day.

This call cost me 3 thousand dollars. That's my mortgage for 2 months. I am in this to make money, just like the rest of us. The majority of this was in a parlay that consisted of the following:

Alfaro
Angulo under 9.5
Lazarte
Cruz
and S.Martinez

Wow.
So Martinez knocks him out.
Cintron gets a 3 minute rest.
Martinez gets a bullshit deduction.
Judges give a bullshit decision.
Horrible ref
Horrible Kermit
Horrible judges
END.

Cintron, the ref, the judges in this fight can all kiss my ass.

Can't find a guy on any boxing board who thinks Cintron won more than 4 rounds

disgusting

I actually ending up LOSING money on the fight
because on a draw
they refund the straight Martinez bet
but any prop (I had Martinez 12 round decision) loses

I feel your pain Brother. I had no money on this fight but what happened was a travesty.

I can handle losing thousands on being wrong such as DLH vs PAC but I find it hard to lose hundreds or penny's due to shitty refs and judges such as last night.

Keep your chin up mate.

I feel for you Ghost. I lose out on a potential 7 hund win but 3 fcking k and then to lose money on your dec prop takes the fcking cake. I got home late, watched angulo dismantle Rivera. I was pissed that the ref and corner wouldn't step in and stop the masacre...disgraceful IMHO. But nonetheless I was happy to collect on it. I then fast forwarded to the knockdown, NON butt and a KO. Make no mistake, Kermit was knocked out. He did not beat the count. I celebrated for the W and my date asked if I would buy her a new pair of jeans. I told her to go pick out whatever she wanted. I was convinced the fight was over. Then I fast forward to nate and realize matinez/kerm is STILL going on. I saw the pt deduct and said WTF??? They are going to steal it from this guy. Martinez was less than virtuoso but he won that goddamned fight. I ended up have a pretty good week but I'm pissed off for all the bettors that correctly pegged the Martinez and Reyes fights. The reyes fight would have earned me better than 8 hund and that chickensht hinajosa was just lookng for a way out. All I can say is this sht happens in boxing. You're a good capper and a great asset to the site. You'll get it back and you will collect on your parlay. Some serious good capping but you just got fcked.

:(

Sorry to hear that buddy. You did your job correctly, and got jobbed. It's a shitty situation, no doubt. I have a small wager on Martinez, but nothing compared to your figures.

Not that it's any consolation, I try to remember the lucky wins in contrast with the unlucky losses. I don't know what the law of averages is, but common sense says things tend to balance out. I know I've had many winners I didn't deserve, like last night's Cintron over 9.5.

It's been a rough stretch these past 2 months, but over the long haul, skills pay the bills, you'll get it back :toast:

And I echo Romi's comments, you're a good capper and a great asset to the board.

great thread on this:

http://forum.boxrec.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=96438

My favorite part:

"Basically, Cintron's wild story about being head butted, combined with a look of total shock, was so convincing (even i believed it before i saw the slo motion replay) that he convinced the ref that he had just made a massive mistake and didn't even want to imagine the controversy that would follow after counting a guy out who had just been dropped by a head butt. Instead, he decided to simply believe Cintron based on blind faith and well after the matter had been resolved. THIS IS THE EQUIVALENT OF A BASEBALL UMP CALLING STRIKE THREE AND AFTER HEARING THE BALLPLAYERS ARGUMENT ABOUT HOW THAT PITCH WAS WELL OUTSIDE THE STRIKEZONE, CORRECTING HIMSELF AND SAYING THAT IN THAT CASE, IT WAS ACTUALLY BALL FOUR, AND SENDING HIM TO FIRST BASE.

THE WAY CINTRON ACTED WAS A DISGRACE"

Appreciate the support fellas...I feel much better after some sleep.

If they rematch, Martinez will be a huge favorite. An opportunity has been stolen from us here. But there will be others, no doubt.

Romi, I think the frustration was maximized by the fact that it happened ONE NIGHT after the Reyes fight ! ONE NIGHT ! I mean, what the hell is this sport coming to ? Allowing the fighter's to determine outcomes ? I'd love to hear what Cintron has to say about that "headbutt" now. A-Hole.

NEVER EVER seen a fighter less worthy of a DRAW. EVER.

What a bizarre week. We'll get em next time.

That was a very tough beat Ghost and Romi. I just re-watched the fight and I will be writing about it later today. It seemed to me that the ref was overruled by the commissioners. One problem in boxing today, as I see it, is that too many commissions have political appointees rather than true fight guys running the show. If what happened last night had happened in any other sport there would be an outcry today on TV and in the media generally, but this is boxing and no one cares apart from the hard-core followers of the sport.

From the post-fight presser:

Kermit Cintron: ?Hell yeah I did enough to win. I clearly won it. I thought he hit me with a headbutt in round seven. Nobody hits that hard.?

Did anybody follow that up with,

"Yes, Kermit, you THOUGHT it was a headbutt. But did you see the tape? Do you SEE that it's a punch? What do you have to say for yourself now you pansy ass?"

Or something to that effect, but a little more professsional.

Cintron also said he is going to go down to 47. Would love to see Shane or Clottey mop the floor with this jerk.

there seems to be a malaise that`s infected this country...everybody wants something for nothing(of course everybody wants free stuff but it actually takes some thinking and logic to realize that free stuff does have a price- that's it's harmful to society as well as entrapment for the individual)....

...nobody cares about hard work and integrity...everybody wants instant gratification...and "any means to an end" seems to be the new motto du jour....

from(to me) the incredibly shocking amount of people who really don`t give a damn that a-(hole)rod`s a juicer to smaller instances like this decision....to a media that doesn`t seem to give a damn anymore.... societal cognitive disonnance on a national scale... embarrassment, guilt and shame seem to no longer exist......

is it a generational thing?...moral relativism run amuck?...

it`s very disheartening...sorry for going off track...

i re-watched the fight also and i thought that papa and kellerman`s sense of outrage was rather lukewarm...

i wonder whether their sense of indignation would have been ramped up several notches had it been cintron that had gotten the shitty end of the stick?.......i think so.....

unfair american homerism pisses me off...i take it personally..

maybe i`m reading to much into this stuff...might be time to up my meds` doseages...."whatchoo got in that pipe, tremeterra,o`connor and santore? pass it over 'eer!"......lol

feel very badly for martinez....and ghost kid....

g.k...brother...hopefully you`ve just accumulated a boatload of karma points and it`s coming back in your direction in a big way...:toast: .

I certainly can understand your frustration about martinez, he should have won. I don't see a case for Reyes though. His punch was dirty and he probably should have been DQed.

I had no money on the Reyes fight but as someone mentioned already in this thread, people want something for nothing and that was the case with this faking Fuker. He complained 3 times within 2 minutes about non existant headbutts when he had been caught by clean punches.
He was looking for any excuse to get paid without taking a beating and Reyes was DUMB enough to give him one.

Your last sentence is the problem. It was a pretty blatant foul. Even if Hinojosa doesn't move his head a little that punch hit him in the back of the head. Reyes had a very winnable fight, sure. However he fucked up and really could have been DQ'ed.

I agree with you Paul but also I considered it a W by just getting my money back. It could very easily have been ruled a DQ and in a lot of venues, it would have been. It was a dumbass shot to say the least. He was going to knock this guy out, but he got frustrated and lost his cool.

I am not argueing your point. I agree it could and probably should have been a DQ but there is no doubt in my mind that Hinojosa was looking for an "Out" as soon as the bell rang.

No Doubts mate.

I was praying to the gambling God's for you as I had a rough idea of how much you had bet.

Not actually getting a result from the announcer was the icing on the cake for a tense night :scared

It worked out in the end for a change :toast:
