Tiger Dq'd??

Illegal drop on 15 - reviewing early a.m

I'm sure the sportsbooks are loving that info.

The complex rules of golf state that he could have taken any of three options.
1) He could either have played from a designated drop area, which he chose not to do.
2) He could have dropped the ball, keeping the point at which it last crossed the margin of the water between the hole and the spot on which the ball would be dropped, another option he chose to ignore
3) He could have returned to the original spot from which he played, and drop 'as nearly as possible' from where he played the third shot, an option he chose.
It is now to be determined whether Woods really did drop as near as possible to the original spot.
It has been suggested that Woods should have been penalised two strokes, and therefore signed an incorrect scorecard.

Woods himself explained: 'I went down to the drop area, that wasn't going to be a good spot, because obviously it's into the grain and it was a little bit wet.
'So it was muddy and not a good spot to drop. So I went back to where I played it from, but I went two yards farther back and I tried to take two yards off the shot of what I felt I hit.'

It sounds to me like he definitely broke the rule and should be disqualified. He even admitted that he dropped the ball 2 yards back instead of trying to get as close to the original spots as possible.

This admission could land him in hot water, though, as it may be interpreted as a breach of the rules, which would result in a two-shot penalty.
But since he has already signed his scorecard, an incorrect scorecard could result in his disqualification from the tournament.
Woods' alleged offence is the safe side of marginal, meaning he will probably escape without punishment, which may draw accusations of favouritism since Chinese teenager Tianlang Guan was given a rare penalty for slow play.
Former world top-10 player David Howell said he believed Woods could be disqualified as he was "right on the limit" of where he took the drop.
"One more yard and Tiger is getting disqualified I don't think any rules official would be able to give him that much leeway," Howell told Sky Sports.
"He was right on the limit. Only Tiger knows whether he deliberately chose to go one yard further back because he preferred an extra yard. I know it sounds unbelievably precise.
"He may have preferred one more yard. If he's done that he should be disqualified - he is the only person that knows that.
"If he hasn't and he has just thought that is near enough then I think there is enough leeway for him to stay in the competition.
"It seems unbelievably harsh but only he knows really."

I have $300 on Tiger +300 to WIN but I think he should be disqualified. It's the only thing they can do. He broke the rule.

have a nickel on him at +415 as well

will be pissed if he were to go out that way because he is in a great position to win....

could you imagine playing the -1500 for a chunk for him to make cut and losing on that...lol

haven't seen it on any other major news outlet so I doubt this thing has life regardless of whether or not it was a penalty. i can assure you that cbs wouldn't find this funny.

added some old man couples to the mix today. nobody i'd rather see win more.

story starting to get traction.....

golf channel reporting now and some other outlets

golf channel said augusta reviewing now. it is my understanding the pga has no say in it and that it will be an augusta decision since its technically not a pga event....

I played tiger +250 last night. Do I lose that play if he is disqualified?

most futures are "all in"

fairly certain you will. some books state player must play to have action, but that's usually pre-tourney. this is interesting not only to the masters and golf obviously, but the clusterfuck that's gonna happen to all the bets the sportsbooks have. gonna get wild. especially if you bet him to make the cut, or not even for that matter.

If you made wager after 2nd rd was complete your bet would generally be voided as with props and match bets the player needs to hit at least one shot in next rd to have action.

Will be interesting to see what Augusta does. They are pretty much sticklers for rules. If Tiger hadn't stated following the rd that he did it intentionally for advantage he would have been fine..but by his admission will leave them little choice but DQ IMO.

Another Tiger +300 potential victim here.

Just added Couples at 20 to 1 and Rory at 8 to 1.

Go Freddy!

when asked about the 14 years old that got the 1 stroke time penalty yesterday tiger said "rules are rules".....lol wonder what he would say now

i actually think he will get dq'd. damn shame.

it's weird though with the amount of press he has to shield he's at a disadvantage. if he doesn't open his mouth he's fine. but since he has to answer a million more questions than anyone else he's at a disadvantage in that regard. nobody is asking jim furyk about all his shots.

damn shame

I don't see him getting disqualified

Any other player on the planet yes

That's exactly why he should be disqualified. He admitted that he didn't drop nearest to where he hit his shot.
