It's the time of the year where we'll have a little break so I thought I would talk about this. There is tons of noise coming out of Austin that Saban has been offered. 10 years at 115million. Anyone else hearing anything?

I could care less either way but it's something to talk about.

know for a fact that his wife was in town looking at houses in Lakeway a few weeks ago. That rumor is 100% true.

also supposedly that the president is likely to get outed from his position apparently in some kind of regent meeting on Thursday? I think is the word on texas message boards.

kinda funny looking at different sites people tracking planes and stuff and hypothesizing. Bear Jr's plane went to Austin yesterday. Another plane went from Tuscaloosa to Louisville (closest airport to where saban was recruiting some kid in I think Evansville) and then the same plane went to Austin.

it's entertaining to follow, but nobody except Nick knows the likely outcome

If he stays or goes so be it...Alabama will survive and continue to strive...Top five program always attracts good coaches...Kirby can handle the job all though Saban has set the bar for all to be measured by...Hard to see him leaving because he has everything in place for continued success....RUMORS........

I grew up watching Longhorn football when Darrell Royal (spelling) was the head skipper and they had a running back or two named Worster and Earl Campbell and QB named Street and some very good defensive players who made marks in the NFL!

If Nick wants to leave, ask the question why would he stay? He's getting close to retirement age, health at the age can be an issue and what better area could take care of you medically than Austin, Texas? Also the fact, he hasn't stayed anywhere longer than 7 years, he skipped out quickly at Miami, Michigan St, LSU, etc., there is also rumor he may return to the NFL and there will be some jobs opening, Washington Redskins is one, another would be Houston Texans who have an opening right now.

Nick will have his choice and he knows his career longevity as a HC has probably 10 years, hell he could coach as long as JoePa did, but again, Nick doesn't stay in one place for that long and that history will continue.

ESPN, the "Herd" and other talk shows all have Nick as a hot rumor. Rumors always come out towards the end of a great year for college coaches and players, someone digs up hot rhetoric on them to make some news and create a distraction. They are good at it and it drive me nucking futs!

Someone I know very close in the UT A.D., tells me that Nick has had no contact with them, only Jimmy Sexton has, Jimmy Sexton has also been contacted by several NFL teams and also was contacted when the Nebraska job opened when Callahan was fired!

My gut feeling is, Nick will not leave Alabama this year with the number of recruits coming in and he doesn't like to leave late in the year when there is so much at stake in the recruiting world. He wants a great set up when and before he leaves. He's not just going to jump ship without looking beyond the big picture. Yeah, he may have made a mistake on kicking that damn FG with no time left, but he gambled on it, hoping his team would stop the KR, Davis, and in a matter of inches, Bama lost the game with a great play on special teams by Auburn. Bama had ample times to put that game away but fact is, Auburn was resilient and they didn't quit.

I think Nick stays, but if he leaves, it won't be for the Texas job!

Later!!

Well part of what I was hearing has come true. Brown is out as HC.

IMO there are a lot of reasons why Saban would want to go to UT. He's proved all he can at Bama and I think his head is so big he wants to take UT to that same point. I do think one of the negatives to the SEC is the grind week in and week out. IMO that got to Urban as well. Why get your head banged in every week to try and get to the BCS NC game when you can play some cream puffs and get there.

Texas coach Mack Brown is expected to resign by the end of the week, a source told ESPN's Brett McMurphy.

"I know Mack, he's friend, this is his decision, but he wants to tell his players and staff and not read it on the internet," the source told ESPN. "That's why he reacted strongly to the (Orangebloods.com) report.

"I'd be real surprised if it hasn't happened by Friday night with the (Texas) football banquet. I think it will be taken care of. It wouldn't drag on much longer."

Orangebloods.com first reported Tuesday afternoon Brown would step down after 16 years as the Longhorns' coach. Later Tuesday, Brown texted the website Horns247: "I haven't seen [the] article. I'm in Florida recruiting. If I had decided to step down, I sure wouldn't be killing myself down here. I have not decided to step down."

A source said, though, discussions have been ongoing with Brown, Texas president Bill Powers and Brown's agent, Joe Jamail.

"The talks were very friendly and the conclusion was Mack would step down in the next couple of days," the source told ESPN.

However, the source said Jamail is participating in a trial in Beaumont, Texas, which has slowed the process, and there are a "lot of logistics" to work out. "Such as when he leaves, what his role will be," the source said. "A myriad of things that have to be worked out."

The source reiterated Brown would not be coaching at Texas in 2014. "By the end of the week, that will be the outcome," the source told ESPN. "That will happen. It's a shame after 16 years he's not able to do it on his own with dignity and grace."

Another source told ESPN's Joe Schad that Brown has had active discussions with Texas officials about his intention to resign and there is a good chance it will become official later this week.

In a statement, Athletics Director Steve Patterson said: "We continue to discuss the future of Texas Football. Mack Brown has not resigned. And, no decisions have been made."

how old are you? Bama is by far the most elite program in the SEC. We were great before him, history says we'll be great without him. with that said, he's going nowhere.

I hope Nick decides to stay a lil while longer too Smith, however, you stated "We were great before him, history says we'll be great without him." I beg to differ on that statement. Only Bear Bryant did anything with this program back then and Saban has cleaned up the messes that Bill Curry, Mike DuBose, Mike Shula and Joe Kines did, Gene Stallings did just great there, but those guys could not recruit nor develop coaches like Nick has along the way. The SEC is the most powerful conference in football right now and will continue to be and any coach that leaves this conference for something else, is going for 2nd best in my opinion. The Big12 ain't what it once was, the PAC100 is getting better, but still far from the SEC and ACC is top heavy with one elite program and a couple rising, the Big 10, eh, well let's say they are doing ok, but not in same class either as the SEC. Urban Meyer will have Ohio State in a BCS game, but he's probably the only HC in that conference that will ever get there.

I'm sure the pot is just starting to stir a lil more in Tuscaloosa and Austin!!

Again, he's going nowhere. And no more probation coaches like the ones you listed, so we'll be fine regardless.

I'm old. Started following college foots closely in the late 80s and Bama had a few positive seasons (which were usually followed by probabation) but for the most part weren't elite in any way during the 90's through Saban coming on board. He's done more in his 6 years than Bear ever did during any 6 year stretch during his career.

As I recall, the last time Bama was great without Sabear was the early 90s. Aub has a lot of momentum in the state right now. Smart may or may not be able to keep Bama near the top of the SEC. It'll be interesting either way.

Cie, with the classes he's been recruiting it's hard to imagine he won't stay on or right near the top. This years class has the chance to be very special.

Saying that, it's always been my opinion that when you have a QB like AJ it's hard to replace him. We all know you have to have good QB play to win. If he knows he doesn't have a top notch QB then he probably knows he's not winning all his games next year. I've always thought it was the downfall of big successful programs when they have a 3 or 4 year starter at QB that does really well. There is hardly ever a replacement for them that does well. If you end up having one that isn't good then you have a program that is down for 2 or 3 years. And for Bama down might mean 2 losses in conference a year.

As an SEC fan, I prefer Saban stays in Bama because I want the best coaches and players here. IMO, Saban is without peer as the best HC in college football in my lifetime.

I'm with you totally. AJ filling in for McElroy as well as he did, albeit behind a stud OL and with a badass defense, was wildly impressive, and as you mentioned, quite rare. Smart will not recruit as well as Saban has. Saban has been losing 1 conference game annually during this recent run of absolute greatness. Miles is 3-4 vs Saban in the regular season (and 0-1 in BCS title games:facepalm:) Sumlin is 1-1 vs Saban. Malzhan is 1-0 vs Saban. One can only assume that Smart would not improve on those numbers, so 2-3 losses annually in the SEC would seem like a reasonable prediction for the first 3 seasons under Smart.
