Gweasil...I am not sure the standing 8 count was in effect for this one, the 3 knockdown rule, I am sure was not. If it was in effect, that would have been the correct call.
The corner took an eternity to get his mouthpiece in, ref should have DQ'd him then, especially after he took it out very deliberately the second time.
At worst, Weeks was in the bag.......at best he used poor judgement, especially since Castillo was ahead.
Maybe I am biased as I had Castillo...........one of the worst boxing beats I have ever had. It sours me for the Wright fight next week.

A DQ after the second spit of the mouthpiece should probably have been in order...then again, I had a bet on Castillo. Weeks let it go because he probably thought he would be stopping the fight with the next Castillo punch anyways. Still, really hard loss for Castillo (and Castillo bettors).

i can honestly say...that if castillo had won like this...i`d still be howling at the moon.....

i don`t like seeing a fight determined by the ref....those that know me know it`s a pet peeve of mine....

i think boxing writers will undermine this...partly because corrales is an american.....and partly because boxing doesn`t need another black eye...

it`s very sad that how one bets determines how objectively he looks at an issue....

that problem goes deeper than boxing,though......

if weeks wipes the mouthpiece on his shirt and sticks it in corrales` mouth...taking say 2 seconds....who here thinks corrales is still the winner?.....

no question he loses....

btw...i believe the standing 8 count was in effect franks....bob arum stated as much...

all i can say is that a rule change must be in order....or every loser will be spitting his mouthpiece into the crowd in the near future....

a major flaw in the rules...that can be abused....to the point of turning a major fight....and a guy`s career`s around...

anybody that`s ever trained for a fight..or a wrestling match......or for any high level sporting event...doesn`t want to hear,"great fight, who cares if the ref took the decision from you".....that`s silly...

you can`t tell castillo that he`s a winner...that`s ridiculous...

weeks turned two great careers 180 degrees in opposite directions......

Everything I've read so far stated the standing eight count was NOT in effect. Castillo was out on the ropes...eyes cleary rolling back into his head, arms at his side unable to defend himself. One more left hook like the last one he took and there could have been some serious damage done to Castillo.

ps- castillo got the same rest time that corrales did and apparently it wasn't long enough for castillo, as that left hook by corrales was really the beginning of the end for castillo...

first time mouth piece went out for corrales, the ref gave him benefit of the doubt...second time it happened the ref deducted a point from corrales...

what if ref dq'd castillo for all those low blows? would you have been satisfied with that ending?

the ref did an adequate job...i was glad to see that castillo after the press conference was able hug his little boy, and you can thank the ref for that because if the ref had let corrales finish him off at that point, it would have really scary...

ropes were not holding him up...

Weeks stopping the fight without giving Castillo a standing 8 is not the real issue.
I have no problem with the stoppage whether there was a standing 8 or not...Castillo was gone.

The issue here is how Weeks handled the mouthpiece situation.

what happend to frietas when he pulled this against corrales in the last fight?

maybe if frietas was punished the way you believe corrales should have been punished, then corrales would not have spit it out the second time.
