2013 Record: 13-16 for +4.05 units

Froome +105 for 5 units to win the Tour ? in my mind the biggest competition to Froome was last year?s runner-up Quintana. However, Quintana is sitting out the Tour as he just won the Giro d?Italia and will also attempt to capture the Spanish Vuelta later this year. That leaves Contador as the biggest threat to Froome. Although Contador is in much better shape than last year when he was over 6 minutes behind Froome, he is still too far behind Froome?s abilities in my mind. Contador still has a strong team but is without his best support rider Kreuziger, who is sitting out as he deals with doping allegations. The course is setup really well for Froome with numerous mountain stages. I wouldn?t be surprised if there were multiple attacks early from the likes of Contador, Nibali, Valverde and even Americans Talansky and Van Garderen. However, no one is able to counter and sustain over multiple mountain stages like Froome and his Sky racing team. Additionally only one time trial, and it being a semi-mountainous one, suits Froome perfectly to put further time between him and his competitors.

Cavendish +400 for 1 unit to win Points Classification ? was tempted to wager on Kittel +500 for this category, but don?t think he will be able to best Cavendish and Sagan, but will look for individual matchups on certain stages for Kittel. Cavendish will be the heavy favorite to win stage 1, as it provides him the best chance to wear the yellow jersey for the first time in his career. If he gets that, his team will be motivated to help him keep it as long as possible up to the first mountain stages. Additionally Cavendish is paired back with his lead out man Mark Renshaw for the first time in two seasons. Sagan is definitely the rightful favorite to win this category but there are quite a few positive signs to Cavendish unseating Sagan?s two year reign on this classification.

Will have other wagers on individual matchups when they are released in the next couple of days prior to Saturday?s start of the race.

Adding:

Field not Bardet -240 for 1 unit to win Young Rider Classification ? really think one of the two Americans (Talansky or Van Garderen) can best Bardet given their overall team strength.

Contador total stage wins Under 1.5 -170 for 1 unit

F. Schleck vs. Horner -155 for 1 unit for Tour finish ? battle of old men. Horner surprised last year by winning the Spanish Vuelta last year. He enters this race banged up and will be difficult for him to compete at a high level for all three weeks. Frank Schleck hasn?t completed a Tour in a few years and has to be motivated additionally he?s been designated as the team leader instead of his younger brother Andy. Would be a surprise if he could pull off a high finish but he does have his team?s support.

Well the Cavendish bet looks in serious trouble considering his crash on day 1 and uncertainty if he will continue. Adding:

Kittel +600 for 1 unit to win points classification - he's even with Sagan and Cavendish appears out so I'll take a second chance on this one.

F. Schleck -130 for 1 unit over Reichenbach for Stage 2

Van Garderen +170 for 1 unit over Costa for Stage 2

Filed not Sagan -240 for 1 unit to win Stage 2

Cavendish is officially out so that future bet is a loser, but did go 3-0 on the Stage 2 wagers.

Updated Record: 3-1 for +2.7 units

For Stage 3:

Bardet -140 for 1 unit over Machado for Stage 3

For Stage 4:

Renshaw -115 for 1 unit over Kristoff for Stage 4 ? Renshaw and his team were built to get wins for Cavendish. With Cavendish out they must refocus and eventually they will try to get Renshaw a stage victory I feel and Stage 4 presents a good opportunity. Not sure if Renshaw can out battle Kittle and Sagan but I fully expect him to be near the front at the finish.

Ten Dams +105 for 1 unit over Horner for Stage 4 ? Last year Ten Dams? Belkin team choose an unsuspecting stage like the layout of this year?s #4 to make a move and get their guy Mollema into 2nd place at the time. It?s not a definite that they do the same tomorrow, especially as most are suspecting riders to rest prepping for Stage 5?s cobblestone battle, but the Belkin team is likely to be near the front of the pack in case such an opportunity arrises.

For Stage 5:

Porte +125 over Talansky for Stage 5 - after Froome went down today, and the potential for crashes tomorrow on the cobblestone stage, I expect Porte and the rest of team Sky (Froome's team) to be at the front and protect their leader. Talansky and his team are relatively young with little experience on the cobblestones.

Well the good news is that Porte finishes ahead of Talansky to win the stage bet. The bad news is that Chris Froome drops out. Wagering wise that sucks, but from a fans' perspective the race just got that much more interesting.

Adding/Stage 6:

Nibali +135 for 1 unit to win the Tour ? by no way is he a clear lock but he does have a 1?45? lead on the nearest serious competitor.

Kittel -120 for 1 unit to win Stage 6 ? Kittel has shown he is only concerned with the sprint stage victories and stage 6 is another opportunity.

Couquard -135 for 1 unit over Renshaw for Stage 6

Bardet -130 for 1 unit over Van Garderen for stage 6

For Stage 10:

Costa +100 vs. Mollema for 1 unit
Rolland -140 vs. Schleck for 2.5 units - Always good to back a Frenchman on Bastille Day, and when it is a tough mountain stage, narrows down who you look to for a possible win or high finish. Rolland definitely fits the bill here.

1-1 getting the Schleck wager and missing the Porte. Also forgot to count the Contador future since he has abandoned.

Updated Record: 8-10 for -7.55 units

For Stage 14:

Van Garderen -115 over Bardet for 2 units - Van Garderen sits behind Bardet by less than a minute in the overall standing. Although there are still the Pyrenees to go next week, Van Garderen looks strong and is likely want to capitalize in the last day in the Alps.

0-1 for last posting. For Stage 16:

Voeckler -155 over Kadri for 2 units
Bakenlants -110 over Visconti for 2 units - both of these are based on the same premise. Voeckler and Bakenlants both are on teams not supporting anyone in search for a podium finish. Tomorrow is a good shot for them to go for a stage win where it is assumed most of the top guys looking at the standings will be waiting for Stage 17 & 18. Visconti and Kadri are on teams of the current #2 & #3 riders and should be saving up their legs for strong support rides the next couple of days.
