Do I need a passport to board the original leg of a flight that will ultimately wind up in Canada?

Let's say you are flying from Miami to Chicago to Toronto....

- When you check in at the desk in Miami you would have to show your Passport.

- When you leave from Chicago to Toronto you would show your Passport at the gate (to Flight Attendant).

- When you arrive in Toronto you need to show your Passport at Customs (no shit).

Here is why you need to show your Passport twice before you arrive in Toronto. If the airline fucks up and doesn't ask for your Passport (to put on record) under Canadian Law the Airline must pay for flight back to USA and lodging if applicable. Meaning if you show up via air at any Canadian airport and YOU DO NOT have ID you are not allowed into Canada. And if Canada Customs finds out that airline didn't ask for Passport then that Airline is on the hook for all the costs. Does the airline HAVE TO ASK for your ID in Miami and Chicago, nope they do not, but they do because of the money involved.

Note: Passport must be valid for at least 3 months (sometimes 6 months) after arrival date. Meaning if you arrive in Canada on Jan 15th, passport must be valid to at least April 15th, sometimes 6 months. Just to be save, make it 6 months.

xstop My bags are packed and my car is in preferred parking and I"m on vacation. I've got cash in hand and I walk up to the counter at 6am and want to catch a flight to Vegas.

The guy says (laughs) that flight has been booked for 3 weeks. "I can get you out next Thursday but you have 6 hour layover in Houston"

Sometimes getting flights at last second can be dirt cheap, sometimes not. Oh and you can walk up to airline counter and buy a ticket 10 months in advance and pay cash, just sayin'

Note: Many times I have got a flight dirt cheap because flight is overbooked. They get on speaker and beg customers to get off the flight (to make room). I walk up to desk and say "Give me 300 bucks and I'll take the next flight".........Bam.....I just saved 300 bucks on my flight:firing:

Went directly to source. Agent with Delta said that yes they would need a passport on the original leg of flight so I am eliminated since I do not have one. Last time I went south or north of the US they didn't require shit:lol: More importantly for the sake of this thread, the lady said people skip the next legs of trips all the time and there was nothing that could really be done about it. Told her I didn't want to be blacklisted or anything as I like flying Delta and she laughed and said that would never happen or there would literally be millions that couldn't fly their airlines. Thanks for the help guys, I learned something that will help me in the future!

Sorry bud, I don't spend all day on a foreign countries web-site, so I guess I don't have the same desire to leave my country as you.
