Bear,

You just don't get it, do you? Let me try to make this clear one more time. The so-called jinx is not an animal that is only inherent in this forum, it is something that is a gambling taboo everywhere and has been since I've been doing this (about 20 years), and undoubtably longer than that. Anybody that has been involved in this industry for any length of time, has been in the forums, or has ever walked into a LV sportsbook, knows that calling a game before it's ending is not proper etiquette. Now, do I believe in the jinx? No. I think it's hogwash. But, it exists nonetheless, and I, and about 99.9% of the human race RESPECT the people that do believe in it by NOT commenting on an event until it's over.

While I'm on the subject, the lowest act one can commit is to wish ill will upon someone's wager. Any way you wanna weave it, saying the following to MJ, "I hope you lose your ass on the Florida State bet!" is incomprehensible. If anybody ever did that on MY site, they would be gone yesterday.

I guess I really don't understand why you are still trying to make a case for your actions. Why not just eat a slice of humble pie and chalk it up to a learning experience? Although you've stated that "my opinion doesn't matter to you", allow me to at least attempt to offer up a piece of advice. Instead of insulting people like Hoops, MadJack, Kosar, etc, perhaps you should unplug your keyboard at times and LISTEN to what guys like this have to offer. I can honestly say that I have learned more about the "art" of sports betting in this forum than any other ONE thing I can think of. I'm probably wasting my time, but the choice is yours....

Junior,

How many times are you gonna post about the jinx and "the lowest act one can commit"?

As for your advice, I think its very good advice. . . seriously. And I have listened to the very best cappers on here. . . however, you and EMJ certainly do not rank among those that at least I would consider the best cappers on here. Those who mostly post garbage on this site are a serious waste of space on this site IMO and if you have followed me for the entire time that I have been on this site, then you would know that 95% of my posts are in regards picks and analysis. . . only recently have many of my posts turned towards "garbage" posts in response to you, EMJ, and others who excel at this type of crap. . .

Basically, you did waste your time, but not to the same extent that EMJ has. . .

I am going to post about it as many times as you (or anybody else for that matter) attempt to justify it.

Also, very suave of you to acknowledge my advice as genuine, and then disinclude me among those that have something to offer to this forum. Frankly, it doesn't bother me that you feel this way, and it's probably the biggest reason why most of the people who REALLY had something to offer, rarely post here anymore. For me, personally, I still attempt to give this forum "a little something" here and there, but for the most part it falls on deaf ears. Running my own forum has also taken a large chunk of my available time. However, since I started posting here (1996?), I am more than confident that I have given at least as much as I have recieved. Does this matter to you? Probably not. But, maybe it sheds a little light on why people like myself, Hoops, Kosar, Barfly, and several other dinosaurs choose to involve ourselves in threads like this. Because, I feel this way: even if I do not have the time (or motivation) to post as frequently as I once did, I can surely find the time to jump in and protect this site's (and the owners') integrity. What you see as "crap" or "garbage", I view as an act of honor and duty to something that is valuable to me. Mad Jack's Sports Gambling Forum. As far as whether or not you consider me a "good capper", that's irrelevant. Some of the most useful knowledge I ever received came from a guy who couldn't cap his way out of a paper bag. Kinda like the seperation of church and state.

p.s. For my lastest "contribution" and/or "garbage post", check the Off the Wall forum. These morsels are few and far between these days and usually fade away after a week or so. In fact, if you blink, you might even miss 'em. Next scheduled contribution: sometime between now and St Swithen's Day.

Aside from the name-calling and slurs that have been hurled in this thread, it has been pretty interesting. More than anything what I see is a difference in generations, the older crowd thinking it is best to keep one's trap shut until results are final, the younger generation feeling they have the right to say what they wish, when they wish, regardless of the feelings of others. ( I may be wrong about this generational thing, perhaps I'm just projecting.)

Personally, I don't believe in jinxes (unless I'm in a real bad losing streak, then I'll try anything

), but I do believe in respecting the wishes of others when it costs nothing. As someone said earlier, it's gambling etiquette. Rules of etiquette have been established to make the most people feel most comfortable most of the time.

if you think that the lowest act one can commit is ill will on another's wager you are so far out in left field Junior that you take gambling a little too seriously and need to take some time off......and i say that in all seriouslness.....you need to step outside, take a fresh breath of air, and smell the roses......good grief

Hey doc,

Even though it was implied, allow me to rephrase: the lowest act (in the arena of gambling) is to wish ill will upon another's wager. As far as taking gambling seriously, damn right I do. I'm involved in many different segments of the industry, so I guess you can say that it's my "job". And yes, I take my job seriously.

Now, speaking of low acts, making fun of somebody's writing skills, the handicapped, and those whom English is not their primary language (the Rat is all 3), as you did in this thread, is bottom feeder material.

As far as needing to get outside, I appreciate your concern, however I live about 100 feet from the beach in San Diego, so I'm very familiar with the outdoors. I'm alergic to roses, but the smell of the ocean is quite soothing.

JR is absolutely right on this one. There is no excuse for wishing somebody to lose their game(lose their ass on the game, to be more precise), let alone in such an obnoxious and classless manner as BearDownAz did to Jack last week.

In addition, Dr. Freeze, if you don't take this endeavor seriously, then you really shouldn't be involved in it in the first place, because in that case, you have no shot at all.

Also, mocking somebody because they don't have your intelligence, writing skills, or spelling ability shows a major character deficiency. You don't see JR running around mocking *you*, do you? If it's true that RAT is indeed handicapped as JR said, then you should be ashamed or yourself for making fun of him.

As to the orginal point of this thread, as has already been mentioned, it is proper gambling etiquette to keep your mouth shut during the course of the game. Naturally it doesn't affect the outcome, but you definitely aren't going to make many friends by spouting off before the game has been decided.

Kosar,

Was waiting for you to chime in on this one as you always seem to do eventually. . .

As far as following "proper etiquette" in order to "make a few friends", that was never my original intention for joining this forum: it was to make my contributions while also reading the advice and knowledge of others. . . clearly I have strayed away from this the past few weeks with threads similar to this one so I guess its about time to get back to business so to speak. . . it is obvious that people have their own VERY STRONG opinions about the all mighty jinx. . .

My "In game comments" thread that I will start Saturday will mostly serve as a tool for halftime wagers as cappers can write down how a game is looking to them without waiting till halftime to open their mouth. . . is the QB out? Is the underdog ahead because of stupid turnovers by the other team? You probably get the picture. . . for those who believe in this jinx, I reccomend they don't read it! It will be a fun thread, but hopefully a money maker as well since each of us cannot see everything of every single game that is going on. . .

Anyways, back to work for me. . .

DTB, I didn't think about that, I never look at my numbers when posting. I suppose it would be best if I skipped making selections when I reach 666

Hey, I was in BG this past Sunday, what a gorgeous day, went to the park with my kids and their dogs, played a little frisbie. Both of my daughters are students at WKU.
