I've been waiting on this card for a long time. What a great day Saturday will be for me. TX OU so Dallas will be crazy all day, Tech vs Aggs at 6 and then a max bet on the UFC card for the night. I should be absolutely worn out by midnight.

nam phan line up right now at 5dimes

-99999

hammer it now before the line goes up :mj07:

this is why i hate cancellations.....i had a great line on the original rematch(don`t remember exactly, but i know it was better than -195) and,as was suspected, the value went the way of the buggy whip....

phan could lose this if he chooses to sit on his hands like he did the first time....he landed practically everything(when he threw, which was very infrequently)...garcia landed little but was constantly swarming....

so,-195 is a little too rich for a straight bet on a guy that doesn`t seem to be very confident in himself...he`s better on his feet and probably better on the ground...but,he`s tentative....

so he`s parlay fodder...and i`m already overextended on sonnen and guillard(with a hedge on lauzon vis sub at +550)...

so i`m left with simpson or pettis.....

damn....

btw...i`m not as confident as some in aldo...particularly after watching him gas and get his ears boxed off by hominck(please,i`d rather not hear about injuries or sickness...that`s b.s.,imo...you get in the ring, you`re fine...no asterisks..no excuses) ...probably taking a shot with florian...

I'm hammering Maynard. I could care less how the last 3-4 rounds looked last fight. IMO he's the better fighter and because of what he did in those rounds makes me take him. He did what many fighters do when they think they have someone on the ropes, he blew his load trying to get the fight over with. You could see he had nothing in the tank after that. I don't think you see him do it again. He'll fight smarter and have more gas in the tank.

Awesome card

Maynard:
He knows he can take Edgar down. He knows he has the power to rock him. If he picks his power shots I can see him winning. The second fight was a classic much to the surprise of the MMA world

Aldo against KenFlo:
Not playing this one but we have a 35 year old against a 25 year old. I would have liked Florian a bit if he was 7 years younger. But this weight cut can't be good for him. He also choked badly in his title fight with Penn which is not to say he will against Aldo but it does not look good on paper. If he performs well here it will be in the clinch where he will do his best work even though he has a 4 inch reach advantage. But I think Aldo's power will prove to be the difference

Sonnen:
All he need his 2 out of 3 rounds. I think he gets them.

Guillard:
Melvin is going to blitz Lauzon is under 2 minutes.

Pettis:
Far better striker though Stephens has some serious power and an iron head

My thoughts on this card.
Edgar/Maynard. When Frankie lost the first fight he made great adjustments. I see guys saying Maynard can take him down. Yes the first fight not the second fight. It was Frankie that was doing all the taking down. Does Frankie make more adjustments this fight? I thought Frankie won that second fight but a draw was fair. Maynard looks so hungry but Frankie will give anyone fits. My whole problem with Frankie is his back injury. Will this flare up or will they have it under control? In a fight like this i might take Maynard just because these guys are so even and the back issues don't help Frankie at all. Six Five how does Frankie pass a roid test when he said he had an epidural? Are their different kinds besides the steroid shot?

Aldo/Florian. I just watched
Aldo's last fight and saw a fight to me that was a lot different then when i watched it the first time. I don't know where Weasel got that Hominic boxed Aldo's ears off from. Aldo floored Mark two or three times. I always thought Aldo's boxing was his Achilles heel but after watching that fight again not so much. Marc has very good hands and i never saw Aldo in trouble once. I have a new appreciation for Aldo's boxing skills and he has a solid chin. His head movement impressed me the most. Kenny's boxing has improved greatly and Kenny is a smart fighter but i just can't take him here. I will just sit back and watch this one. As for Aldo gassing against Hominic. I thought that also after viewing the fight the first time, but after watching it again i don't believe this is accurate. Aldo basically took off round five but when he got up he wasn't exhausted as Rogan and Goldie wanted us to believe. Heck he even did ten pushups after the fight to mimic Hominic. If u are exhausted that is the last thing u think of doing.
Pettis/Stevens nobody has dominated Stevens in the boxing realm of this sport. I don't think Pettis has better hands but his quick Ju jitz is what will probably kill Stevens. This looks like a great great fight. Guillard the person everyone thinks is the greatest boxer in the sport, ran from Stevens. Yes he did out box him but not by that much. He ran the entire fight. Stevens can win this but i think Pettis athleticism will be to much for Stevens.
Stann/Sonnen. Stann will have his moments but once Chael is on top of him it is over. I know Stann has improved but have we seen it against a guy who can take anybody down? Stann looked brutal against Davis. Learning how to stop those pressure takedowns takes more than a year to learn. Mia should run right thru Santiago but man a lot of these Brazilians have glass jaws so i will pass. Great, great card.

Gulliard/luzon fight. You beat Gulliard by fighting smart and nobody is fighting him smart nowaday's. You wear him out a little and then u capitalize on his mistakes. One of these day's somebody is gonna knock Melvins head into the third row. He is just getting to cocky with his boxing. Joey isn't the guy. The whole game plan should be to get Melvin down. That should have been the game plan in Melvin's last fight but the wrestler wanted to bang. Joey could win this but does he have a good game plan? Who knows with these fighters. This could be another fight where the losing fighter say's "i should have stuck to the gameplan".

aldo was the heavier puncher of the two....but hominick clearly outstruck aldo, particularly toward the end of the fight...he just doesn`t have much power..

as for his stamina,i think the guy has issues...he hasn`t been in all that many difficult fights..he sustained a good deal of damage vs hominick..he`s not used to that....he took no damage vs faber..... .

you don`t lay on your back taking punishment in the 5th because you enjoy iit.....it happens because your opponent(hominick) put you on your ass and you couldn`t stop it(unless your name is maia or sass)......

there are other indicators that aldo has had stamina issues...
"Aldo rebounded in his next fight against the then-undefeated Thiago "Minu" Meller at Gold Fighters Championship I on May 20, 2006, winning a majority decision in a very close fight. Round one could have gone either way, with Aldo getting two takedowns (both times getting into half-guard) and cutting Meller's right eyebrow with a left hand; while Meller went for two armbars, nearly hyper-extending Aldo's right arm in the first attempt before Aldo was able to escape. Aldo won a lackluster round two, again taking Meller down and landing some hammerfists. A seemingly exhausted Aldo stalled against the ropes much of the third round, holding Meller in the clinch. Both landed some solid strikes in the few exchanges there were in the round.[9][10][11]"

yeah, he was young.....still,i don`t believe that you can turn stamina on and off...i think it`s genetic...you can tweek it...but some guys are better than others...like jumping ability or quickness/speed...or intelligence.....

i`m not saying for sure that aldo has serious stamina issues...just saying that i think it`s a question that hasn`t been definitively answered...

aldo is a prohibitive favorite here...and from what i`ve been reading, this is a foregone conclusion...i don`t think it is...i think that if it goes to the ground...or if it gets into the latter rounds, that florian presents a real danger given his length and grappling/sub ability... this will be his second weight cut at 145....should be a little easier...

aldo may stop florian early...but if he doesn`t,i think florian will be much more dangerous late than hominick was....

waiting for a +300....i`ll take the shot is it`s available....probably take a shot at less...

Overall 49-38 +39.54 units

Opinions 17-18 +2.75(always .5 unit)

Maynard +120 7units

I layed a max play out on this one and would like to play more because I'm a dog but I have to stick to my money management. I would be playing Maynard for a max bet even if he was up to 140 so this is a gift getting some back on the dollar.

I'm swamped with work right now but will get back in before tomorrow nights fights to give my reasoning.

u need to watch the fight again. He didn't clearly out box him. As a matter of fact he hardly touch him while getting hurt by punches over and over again. As for being exhausted. The guy jumped up and started doing pushups and quite a few. When i watched it the first time i guess listening to Rogan and Goldie say he was exhausted over and over again plays games on a viewer. Only reason that fight lasted over a round is because Hominic grab the fence three thousand times. I think people are playing Kenny for some kind of love they have for the guy. Heck i won't even bet Aldo cause i want to see Kenny win. If anyone is gonna beat him it will be Kenny. U need some smarts to beat the guy. A Silva say's that if Aldo was a 185er he would retire :142smilie

What are the chances that Aldo snaps Kenflos leg in half with one of his kicks?

Seriously, this fight is much like the Jones Page fight. The champ just has too much for the challenger and no matter what the line is there is value. Because of that I'm putting some down on Aldo.

Aldo -335 1unit
Santiago +260 .5unit(opinion)

Aldo is better in every aspect. If this goes past the 3rd I'll be suprised.

I know it's a high line but I went back and looked at my MMA betting history and I made a lot of my money betting the big favs. Sometimes these guys are good enough to have value even as big favs.

he was able to do push-ups...but he couldn`t get hominick`s ass off him?..what were you watching?...the guy was exhausted...and it wasn`t the first time(i provided the quote in a previous panel)..hominick was landing punches in bunches(paricularly late)....landing combos and then aldo would land a big shot that knocked hominick down...

aldo`s so good that many of his fights are easy...he stands outside and potshots with kicks and punches.....i want to see him in another life and death struggle....a fight with a guy who`s a finisher and can finish late....a guy that`s as big as he is...

you can spin it any way you want, but aldo was lucky that fight wasn`t going another round,imo....i agree he did enough, but there were portions of that fight where he was getting lit up on his feet....and at the end,on the ground...

what i`m saying is,i hope this fight doesn`t end early(it could..aldo`s that explosive).....i want to see what aldo does with a guy that has the potential to finish him late...a big guy at the weight....

i think if this gets into the 3rd/4th and 5th it will be very, very interesting....

that was a really hard fight he had with hominick...first time i`ve seen aldo struggle...i want to see it again....

we know what silva can do when facing adversity(sonnen)...and gsp(penn)......i want to see aldo dig deep....

i don`t doubt he can...but i want to see more of that cardio...
