Can't believe NOg Mir wasn't fight of the night. I know it was only one round but it was a great fight. why give it to Machida Jones cause Machida landed a punch in the first round that did nothing but throw Jones off balance?

Totally agree. I was on the edge of my seat the whole fight. Similar to the Hughes/Trigg 1. Just a great first round that will live in my memory for a long time

i had a pretty decent wager on Mir and the more i think about it this was a bad bet. He just didn't look right to me. He looked soft and then i see him with that knee brace on i thought i was fuked. He looked terribly slow to me. Very relaxed which is good but being out boxed by a slower Nog was bizarre. Thank goodness it went to the ground. That fight could have been easily stopped when Mir had his head on the ground. Even Rogan said "Mir is out mike" Nog hit Mir with some huge Elbows to the head against the cage. Mir rolled with them to lesson the blow but those were connecting. Mir never looks good against the cage. Not sure why he likes it there so much

I think it is because i see guys all the time crying to Dana saying "how could fight of the night be only one round" I watched it ten times now. Like u said UK the fight is etched in memory for me also. I love those chess matches on the ground. Not taking anything away from the Machida fight because it was decent but the Mir NOg fight to me was outstanding. On another note it will still take a while but Bones is getting in that Tyson territory where he is starting to be a "must see champion" For a MMA fan that is.

IMO Jones should be done at LHW. I know he's young and hasn't faced all the guys but there is nobody that will come close to him. His length and mainly his leverage he gets from that length is too much for any of these guys. He will absolutely smash Hendo if they face. I would like to see Evans and Bones go at it but I really don't see it being much of a fight. I actually think outside of JDS that he would go through the HW division pretty easily. If the UFC really wants a super fight then I think they hype both of those guys up and then in about 2 years let them go at it. I just want them to do it before JDS gets too old.

I just re-watched the fight 2x, and I have to agree with Sponge + Joe, I think you might be right. When you see Frank go to the ground, he takes several unanswered blows and Dean says "watch the back of the head." - To me, it looks like Mir was face first in the canvas and Nog very well could have knocked him back conscious. WOW

Note: The unforgettable Hughes/ Trigg fight I mentioned previously was in fact the second fight and not the first:facepalm:

Nog should have just kept punching. That mistake cost him the fight and at least 6 months on the sidelines. As for Mir he is the greatest heavyweight submission fighter ever. But his chin is shot - Freeman, the illegal stomp from Sims, Cruz, Vera, Lesnar, Carwin and Nog have tested it way to many times. But I love watching him fight:0008

I don't understand how you can watch Jones clearly lose round 1, dominate round 2 and then say he is done at LHW. That makes no sense. Jones finally got tested and there are other people worth fighting in the division at LHW (Evans, Davis, and Hendo). Let's not go nuts here, fellas. We're watching a great fighter grow into something special....enjoy it.

As for the fight itself, it was awesome. An untested champion loses round one and his confidence is finally shaken. Great drama. Lyoto landed some very big shots and had Jones stumbling but Jones came back and took the fight to where he had the advantage then landed a left on Machida that was finished with a choke.

Mir/Nog - Mir was out and Nog punched him back into consciousness. I thought it was exciting, but I liked the Jones/Machida fight for FOTN.

Another thought: What do you guys think of Jones letting an unconscious Machida drop helplessly to the ground when he admitted that he was aware Machida was out? For someone that supposedly respected Machida, that sure seemed like an unsportsmanlike dickish move.

Dick move since he knew he was out. almost as big as a dick move as what Jackson said to Jones after the fight. Something like this was caught on a tape "Jones, Hey bones". " Go over and help Machida and get some fans".

It wasn't a dick move on Jackson's at all. I think he was just trying to help the kid repair his image since he keeps doing shit like this that people aren't keen on. There is a reason the fans were cheering for Machida and it isn't because Canada is pro-karate.

I thought it was a dick move. Go over ands whisper it to him. Strange that he even has to remind him about this. I thought it made the fans look gullible. Him saying that.

I don't like Jones for this very reason. I think he's fake, and Rashad has said it several times. When I hear him in interviews and pre-fight shit, it seems like he's going OVER THE TOP trying to be soft spoken and nice, and so "humble." I just think he's fake as hell. I won't be satisfied until he gets KTFO. Sadly, that might be awhile lol
