See a number of decent underdog plays on this card. Guillard, Beltran and Roop could all pull out the W

I wasnt that up on my WEC so i have a question for the masses. I hear that if this Hominick character wins he gets a shot at Aldo. Is he really that good? It says he has 8 losses  A split decision against Garcia and he is gonna beat Aldo?

Yep assuming Hominick wins and is injury free he gets Aldo.

Hominick is a very good technical striker but lacks pure KO power. His damage comes in accumulative strikes. He has improved his ground game over the years which he showed at WEC46 with a slick submission of Brian Carraway. His losses include Mike Brown (no shame there), Hatsu Hioki (top 3 in the world), Josh Grispi (was recently number 1 contender) and Rani Yahya (great grappler but small for 145).

One thing about this fight. Roop is much bigger (6"1 to 5"8) and I can see him getting a takedown. That is his way to victory. Just wonder what his face will look like before that opportunity comes along

UK i see he as improved and some losses to some good fighters but the split decision to Garcia is troubling to me. If u can't put away Garcia im not sure u should be in there with Aldo. Garcia seems to get worse every fight. To many rumbles.
Maybe i have the wrong Garcia?

hominick`s fight with garcia really wasn`t close.....

it`s was phan vs garcia..except twice as conclusive...

hominick has game...he appears to be improving with every fight...and he`s pretty well-rounded ....and he`s much quicker and more polished than roop...his speed and superior technique should be the difference...

i think that the korean zombie was highly overrated off the garcia fight(how many guys have been overrated because of entertaining fights vs garcia?).....korean zombie was certainly one...

if these s.o.b.`s could judge fights appropriately, garcia could easily be 13-9 instead of 15-6-1....imo...

Weasel are u saying it wasn't a split decision? Maybe i should just go find it and scout the guy myself. I might be mistaken but it looked like he fought Garcia his last fight. I was just curious on why he is getting the title fight. I wonder how many ufc 155 are gonna move to 145 and try to take Aldo. I can see Joe Daddy andTyson Griffin going after him since they have been losing.

there aren`t an awful lot of deserving feathers to fight aldo in the ufc...there are some solid guys outside the ufc(hioki/warren/sandro)..but there really isn`t all that much "aldo-worthy" talent in the ufc...mendes and poirer probably need a few more fights...grispi certainly needed a few more....

homonick`s is about as good a choice given the talent pool ...he`s a veteran on a bit of a streak...

i expect him to beat roop...but who knows...apparently his style isn`t all that ref-friendly...

after watching both hominick and phan vs garcia, apparently guys that pick their spots and actually land the punches that they throw aren`t given as much weight as spasms of unproductive activity....

looks like unless aldo moves to 155,he`ll be champ for a verrrry long time...

might as well get the party started with peripheral bets.....

hominick inside the distance at +225(small)....and i`m parlaying hominick(more substantially) to boot...

not buying into roop....the height is a problem...and if it makes stand-up dicey for hominick(which i doubt will happen to any great degree),he has a real chace to sub roop on the ground....out of roop`s 6 defeats,4 were subs...

aside from one dimensional, wooden indian targets like korean zombie and garcia, theres nothing on roop`s resume that excites me....

and imo, guys get way too much credit for getting into firefights with garcia...imo,garcia`s a pug and gets a ridiculous amout of undeserved love from the judges...i think that people went overboard on korean zombie based on his fight with garcia....

and now roop...roop/garcia/korean zombie...a trifecta of go-against guys...

hominick is too well rounded...has too many quality wins...experience to fall here(short of something divine like a lucky head kick) with a champioship fight in the offing........

After much consideration decided to give this card a miss. There will be plenty of other cards to win money on during the year. I may parlay one of the fights with another card

But I'll still give my non play views/ opinions

Guillard/ Dunham
Can MG stop the takedown? That is the big question. His footwork and hand speed is impressive and his new camp have put him in the right direction. I considered playing him but the threat of total control/ submission form Dunham is there

Barry/ Beltran
Barry is lost on the ground. Beltran probably know's this but will decide to bang with him anyway. This will cost him

Roop/ Hominick
Hominick is the better fighter no doubt. But that reach and size could give him problems

Was very very tempted on Freire (still am) but the wrestling of Lowe has put me off.

i may take a chance with freire...after watching a few vids,he seems to have an excellent guillotine choke that serves as a deterrent against guys that love to shoot(which lowe does)...

he`s more well rounded...but lowe(built like a brick with several small college wrestling titles in his pocket) could just take freire down and smother him for 3 rds......

still thinking about this one...

Just watched some more fights of Freire. His last fight being the rematch with Endo for the Shooto title plus some other fights

He is going to be put on his butt in this fight but he has good submissions in the scrambles and I think that is where he could get Lowe.

Decided to make the play

i don't see much i like here either. Dunhan i think will take Gulliards heart eventually in this fight. Is this guy fighting Mike Brown any good cause Mike Brown is teetering on the washed up level. Can't wait for Belfort/Silva Feb 5th. Just can't wait.

i like dunham..i think he`s tough, well rounded and bordering on elite given his well rounded skillset, toughness, lefty stance and length....

but i wouldn`t call him real quick...and that`s a worry vs guillard..

after looking hard at this one, what stuck out to me was that melvin..in 36 pro fights(many at a relatively high level....a ufc level)...only has ONE decision loss on his ledger.....

in 8 losses,that`s 7 submissions....

add to the mix the fact that 3 of dunham`s last 4 decisions have been splits(fair or not)...so,imo, that`s an inidicator that judges have problems seeing dunham a clear winner vs upper level competition...

so,in a practical sense,if you`re laying the wood on dunham, you`re pretty much betting he subs guillard....anything can happen...but i`m talking most likely scenario..

needless to say, that as a guy that already has dunham in a par(with hominick),i wagered a little on melvin by decision at almost 6-1 at 5 dimes...

dunham has some hard bark on him...i`d be very surprised if he gets knocked out...i see guillard being careful...and doing everything in his power to stay off the ground with dunham...

i`m a dunham admirer,btw...not much of a guillard fan...but i`m objective enough to realize that guillard`s speed poses problems for everyone he faces if they can`t take him down...

food for thought...

Brown should destroy Yahya. Way to much power and size for the submission magician who is going to be dangerous in the first few minutes but trying to grapple with someone much bigger, and who does not want to go to the ground, is going to take it's toll. Yahya should be fighting at 135 (could probably make 125) at best and I am a big Yahya fan
