Many of you are probably familiar with the UFC.

On June 29th,2001 in New Jersey at the Continental Airlines Arena there is a live show.

You can bet on these fights at www.mvpsportsbook.com

In the next week or so I will handicap the matchups.I have followed this sport for a long time and have had friends that were former world class wrestlers compete in UFC and Pride.I have been to several UFC's,Japan events etc..

I think there is a good opportunity to make some money betting these fights.I am very close with one of the fighters that is competing on June 29th...I will be there rooting him on but I will leave some tips here and breakdowns on how some of the fights match up.

"can you talk him into taking a fall"

LOL.. If I suggested that I would be the one 'falling' to the ground !

"are you sure you didnt mean mVpsportsbook"

You are correct..i edited to show as mvp sportsbook.

I will probably not recommend betting on my friend this time because he is -155.Just too steep of price to pay.He is really, really good but has a tough matchup. Not sure how they came up with this line.At any rate there are some other fights with odds set right now I think we can make some money on!! More later

I've been treating a guy here in phoenix who is into ultimate fighting and cage fighting.
I'm still not real sure what this stuff is. He has been doing this for several years and has a bout scheduled in about four months. I look forward to seeing what it is about.

As I always do with pro football players, wrestlers, and general "bad-asses" that I treat.. I give him my standard appology in advance that if I do or say anything to offend or hurt him that I am truly sorry. haha

AzRusty

BTW .. most famous sports figure that I have ever treated is Jim Wright who was a tight end for Denver

Right here in the good ol' QCA is a ultimate fighter by the name of Pat Militech-- if you know anything about UFC you know about Pat. Have seen him fight several times here in town, and also on PPV defending his crown from Japan, etc.
He lost his last fight, but I'm sure he will bounce back.
NOVAKHT-- is Militech on this upcoming card?

Yes he is ..pat is fighting Shonie Carter.these two have fought before--in Davenport I believe and Pat won a close decsion. He is a heavy favorite this time and should win pretty easily.I will break his fight down first.

I know Pat fairly well..I am from Cedar Rapids and seen Pat at many extreme challenges as well as the bigger shows. He is a great guy.

Pat is not the guys I travel with and help out.. but I have been a fan of Pat's for a long time.

Pat Miletich vs Shonie Carter

Miletich -180 Carter +145

Pretty steep price here but I will be shocked if Pat loses. He is coming off an upset loss(first loss in UFC) where he was ahead in the fight and in control and got caught in a fluke choke.
These two have fought before..a few years ago and it was a close decsion.Pat is much improved on his feet with his boxing and striking skills. He will be able to score from that position.Shoney is well rounded and coming off a big win by KO but I dont se him KO'ing or submitting Pat.He has an unorthodox style and uses his leg kicks well but Pat is just to big and strong.Pat wants his title back and will be hungry.Easy decsion or possible ref stoppage for MILETICH.

Redsfann. do they have tag teams. If so why don't we form one. Just as long as there not super heavy weights. They have to be under 280. And if at all possiable from the r.

here at Madjacks. Yes, I know several people who know Pat personally, and they say he is a nice guy. Saw that Miletech vs Carter fight here in town. Great fighter, that Shonie Carter-- he just happened to be going up against Pat when he was at the very top of his game.
You say Pat should win this one easy, huh? As long as Pat wins and its a good bout to watch, I'll be happy......
biggrin.gif

djv--

Are you kidding me?? Tag Team? We might last 5 seconds if it took them that long to cross the ring........
wink.gif

Will shop for a better line, but if you say that Pat wins this one, I'm all over it.......

Redsfann I thought if you could, with your quick moves trip one. Then I just have to fall on-em when he's down. He won't get up.
If he did he be flat.

djv and redsfann; sponsored by Madjacksports - although their classy T-shirts will be ripped apart in 3 seconds (soon to be followed by their heads)
biggrin.gif

Mind you reds; if you whack the first guy from behind with those spikes you wear to make you look taller and then djv crocks the other guy with his stick; we could make a killing. Then again, so could your opponents

Can you believe they offer lines for Pride shows, too? I dunno if you saw, but Fujita vs. Takayama actually had a betting line for the last show. That is two pro wrestlers, for heaven's sake. I heard the fight ended up being on the level but I was just shocked they would do that, that's all.

Good luck handicapping MMA. I think you can definitely figure on who has the advantage coming in but I find it incredibly difficult to actually predict.

Your guess is as good as mine on the line movement. They only started covering thses events a few months ago.I imagine there isnt much action so the line will move if any $$ are bet.

Bet favs early and underdogs late would be my advice.

Paul Rodriquez(+130) vs Tony Desouza(-160)

I think a bet on Paul Rodriquez is one of the best bets on the card.I have seen him fight live.He has fought better competotion then Tony and has more ways to win.Plus he has a bunch of experience.
Desouza is primarily a wrestler and had an impressive win in last UFC.. his only way to win in my opinion is by decsion..contolling the positions and getting the judges to think he is more active.I think paul is an all around better fighter.

Karo Uno(+105) vs Fabiano Iha(-135)

Bet on Uno.He is great on the mat and can win this by submission.Iha is cutting a lot of weight and may be bigger and stronger but the same day weigh-in rule in NJ may hurt him here.I predict he will gas late and get caught.Iha's standup is not real good so I dont see him winning by KO.Uno has some super leg kicks.Uno wins this by sub or decsion.

Ricco Rodriquez (-130) vs Andrei Orlovsky (+100)

Tough fight to handicap..Ricco has looked decent in Pride but hasnt fought anyone.Andrei won an earlier UFC in impressive fashion but his opponent was also not great.Toss up here--if betting take a chance on Orlovsky. He may get a leg lock.

Josh Barnett (-170) vs Semmy Schlit(+140)

Both guys are tough as nails.Schilt won in last UFC in a match he was a huge underdog in.He is 6'9" and can KICK.Barnett is well rounded and will look to clinch or take Schlit to the mat.I am staying away from this one.I think Barnett will win a boring decsion but if I were betting i would take the +140 and hope a bick kick or knee can KO Josh.

Vlady Matyushenko (-155) vs Yuki Kondo (+125)

Not sure how they get this line.. Vlady is who I travel with and follow. He is a world class wrestler from Russia and he is very tough but this is a hard matchup for him.KOndo is dangerous with leg strikes and knees.Kodo has fought better comp. and has a ton more experience.Vlay can take this to the mat at will and possibly win by ref stoppage or neck crank.I am betting Vlady because I know him.He should win but to risk -155?? Too steep.Bet small.

BJ Penn (-145) vs Din Thomas (+115)

I am betting BJ all the way here.He is an animal. He can win by KO,Sub or ref stoppage.Din is a great grappler and owns an upset win over UFC champ Jens Pulver by submssion but he wont have any rabbits to pull out of the hat here.BJ is going to make some noise in this division.BJ by sub in round 1.

MAIN EVENT

Tito Ortiz(-250) vs Elvis Sinosic(+200)

Mismatch... plain and simple.Elvis is out of his leauge.Steep price here so be careful.anything can happen in a fight. But Tito is bigger, stronger, faster and better at every aspect here.Tito is the UFC poster boy.He is getting trained by the best boxing, submission and kicking coaches out there.Bet Tito -250.
