It has to be Auburn they play in the toughest conference and seem to play at a high level each week.

USC is not even the best team in their conference the Trojans are definately not as strong as last years team.

Oklahoma the big 12 is down this year think they may even lose this week to A&M.

Wisconsin the big ten is very weak this year they wouldn't even be a 500 team in the Southeastern Conference. Benefit of playing a weak schedule.

Utahs schedule is just to weak to consider them over the top 3.

This really should be moved to the general forum no business for it being here; I agree either Auburn or OK; the big xii down but the south is not down; Auburn is the only team with the exception of LSU that has not really had a scare but that was a huge scare; doesnt really matter though as they still have to play Georgia, BAMA and Tenn again and unless Tenn has 6 turnovers again that will go down to the wire; USC should have 2 losses already this season and got dominated by CAL who I believe is much better than USC and OK really hasnt had a scare either as they have led in every single game and should run the table. If Auburn runs the table they should play for the NC for sure; I think its funny how people think USC is so great; they easily could have had 3 losses againt Tech, Stanford and Cal but now they beat up on their weaklings in their conference and everybody thinks they are world beaters. But like i said it doesnt matter anyyways there is a lot of footbally to be played and I care about capping not who's number one. This needs to be moved to general forum though

I agree Cal is the better team offensively and defensively they are better. If they would have won that game Rodgers would have the heisman wrapped up right now.

personally, i dont think auburn is anywhere near #1. but the good thing for them is that they have a chance to prove everyone wrong by beating georgia and bama. if they can do that, then their resume will speak for itself.

as for usc, theyre still hands down the best team in the country.

frankly, i think california is better than auburn. of course the polls cant reflect that because 0 loss vs. 1 loss, but cal is better imo. hell, i would still take texas and georgia over auburn.

and right now, michigan is the best team in the big 10. another case where ranking have to reflect 0 loss vs. 1 loss, but wisky wouldnt beat michigan. and it would figure this is an osu/iowa year where the two best teams dont play.

bbk is correct about rodgers. had cal won that game, it would be a runaway for him in the heisman voting. but that isnt exactly a bad loss.

gman2, your picks speak for themselves, and i do wonder if aub could win if they had to come from behind. however, i wish tex would play aub in a bowl this jan. aub would beat the longhorn like a rented mule. tx cannot throw and aub has 2 very good rb's. oky only had one...

nothin wrong with your opinion. we just disagree, thats all. i really think though that if there was no such thing as oklahoma (consider that a longhorn utopia) then texas would be getting a lot more credit. tigs control their own destiny, so we'll revisit this in a month.

Auburn doesnt have OU's passing game. Texas sold out to stop the pass. Last I checked OU scored all of 12 points. Doesnt matter if you have 2 backs - unless they changed the rules you only get 1 ball.

But, as for offense, the Horns certainly have issues. I think they can run on anyone but against good defenses there would be problems.

this discussion doesnt matter until aub wins against ga, bama, and then tenn...if they do that, how could you not have them as 1 or 2...i agree usc is 1 now...OK is way overhyped...i wish they wouldve lost to ok st...we'll see if aub can win all those games...its definitely not for sure that we will have an argument come bowl time because aub gettin thru their schedule undefeated is very, very tough...

gman2, "longhorn utopia" very clever :)

i guess my attitude is towards mack brown - not UT. i hate him. i really liked applewhite.

my main gripe with texas is that their qb is terrible thrower. jmo

aub still faces a really tough sched, and may 1 or 2 games ?

you have to be impressed with okla.they shut out texas, & thenif they go into a & m & win there, that will be 2 consecutive wins on the road against top foes.

i'm impressed with auburn because i think that they have a balanced offense & a very good defense. as gman said we have to see how they do vs. georgia & alabama.i don't think texas can beat auburn because they have no passing attack.

i was impressed with usc's win vs. vt.& how they beat calif. eventhough they were outplayed.

with all that said i think calif. is the best team in the country.

Applewhite was one of the most overrated QBs ever. But I will save that full discussion for another time. But last I checked as a starter he never won 10 games in a year, he started the game UT lost to OU 63-14, he started the pathetic loss at Stanford, etc. Then in 1999 with AM the biggest game of the year he didnt start due to a tummy ache.

Strength of Schedule
USC #6
OU #23
AU #87

Road Wins
USC 4 road wins out of 8 games!
OU 2 road wins out of 8 games!
AU 3 road wins out of 9 games!

Wins over current top 10 ranked opponents
USC 1 (CAL)
OU 1 (Texas)
AU 0

Wins over current top 25 ranked opponents
USC 3 wins
OU 2 wins
AU 2 wins

OOC Opponents
USC: @V-Tech, Colorado St., @BYU, ND
OU: Bowling Green, Houston, Oregon
AU: LA Monroe, The Citadel, La. Tech

Interesting Road Facts
USC had 3 road games in their first 4 games of the season!
OU played their first road game Oct. 16th!

I also get a BIG KICK out of people judging who is #1 love to bring up the "close" victories USC had this year. Lets see, USC ONLY starts 2 SENIOR players on offense and ONLY has 3 starters on offense who were starters LAST YEAR! THIS IS A VERY VERY YOUNG OFFENSE FOR USC! Not to mention USC lost their #1 WR 3 weeks ago to injury (comes back in 2 weeks). That means USC lost MIKE WILLIAMS, COLBERT, LEWIS, AND SMITH at the WR position this year and is ONLY starting 2 seniors on offense.

As for the USC defense, they are the #1 defense in the country. USC has NOT allowed a TD in the 4th quarter ALL YEAR! USC also has the #1 DC in the country Pete Carroll along with the #1 OC in Norm Chow. I think it might be debatable whether or not Carroll is the #1 DC in the country but he def. is top 5. Chow def. is #1 OC in the country.

What does this all mean? It means the USC team who everyone is impressed with and ranks #1 can and will only get better each week. Those who think the USC team is dominating right now, will be LIGHTS OUT at the end of the year. This was a huge rebuilding year for the offense for USC. Next year USC returns EVERYBODY on offense except 2 players. Pretty scary!

FIGHT ON!!!!

Does anybody here think AU can outcoach or outplay USC in the Orange Bowl? The AU offensive coordinator is Borges an ex pac 10 OC. USC has seen and stopped his offenses and played that style of offense for 2+ years. I don't think AU could stay within 10pts of USC. AU has NOT faced an offense as powerful and sophisticated as USC. If USC is favored under 10pts against AU I def. will bet 10k again in bowl season.

OU does not scare me. They do have a balanced offense (key to beating USC) and a SUPER STUD RB in Peterson but that is about it. OU defense would get shredded by Norm Chow. White is not a mobile QB and has trouble against tough blitz schemes and Carroll is great at blitz schemes. Ask Michigan!

CAL on the otherhand is the most balanced offense and prob. has the #1 QB in the country along with one of the best OC in the country. CAL also has a LEGIT defense. Very tough team to beat.

I "thought" Miami might have given USC the toughest matchup. Thought Miami had physical DB's and that would give USC's young WR's trouble. Also Miami gets up against great competition and Miami is loaded with talent. Oh yeah, it is at the Orange Bowl!

Sorry college football. If USC wins the NC this season, it will be a 3peat because USC returns basically the WHOLE team next year. Especially on offense. Next year will be Carroll and Chows best team they have fielded. I strongly urge you to bet BIG on USC to win the NC next year. I am planning on betting 5k on it hoping to get 3-1 odds. I got 1.5k to win 12k on USC to win NC this season! Thanks pinnacle!

Lots of football to be played and don't be too shocked if UCLA upsets USC! :)

*remember, my opinion is based on each teams current situation and what they have shown me up to this point in time. Season is not over and my opinion surely can/will change somewhat.

said going into last weekend, I would not be shocked if Cal played USC for the marbles ...

wisky will prob lose (and trail cal now anyhow)

OU could lose (prob not) aggies might be final shot

Aub has good chance of losing since their sched will not be easy on out

that said, would just love to see cal/wisky in rose bowl, be my biggest bet of year if so

I just think Oklahoma has the most "complete" team up to this point. Auburn is coming on strong but still has to play the rest of it's SEC schedule out.
I'm a Sun Belt guy(no laughs) with that said here's my top 10:

1. Oklahoma
2. USC
3. Auburn
4. California
5. Wisconsin
6. Georgia
7. Michigan
8. Utah
9. Tennessee
10. Miami

This is what I wanted the board was getting a little boring lately and I wanted to get a little more information on those Trojans. The only time I have seen them they didn't impress me much. I seen them against a poor Washington team and California a team who dominated them. I do respect USC in that they do not try to run up the score like Oklahoma. Just don't think that Auburn is getting a fair shake in the poll system. Good luck to everyone this weekend.
