Between Green Bay and Iowa City
I DON"T know why the last discussion on this topic was moved to the general forum. When the best cappers I know engage in a thoughtful discussion of the best team, best coach, best defense, best quarterback, best home field advantage, etc., I think it is DIRECTLY ON POINT to the analysis that goes into capping every game on the board.

Just my opinion.

greed

USC was NOT dominated by CAL. You obviously did not understand Pete Carrolls gameplan. USC gave, i repeat, GAVE CAL everything underneath. CAL did not complete a pass longer than 15 yards all game. Does that tell you something? Despite Cal QB Rogers playing virtually a PERFECT game, CAL only scored 17pts. In addition, CAL in the 2q was stopped 3rd and goal and USC was called for a PI and gave CAL 1st and goal again at the 2. Not saying the PI was not legit, but CAL was not called for a PI in the 2h when their DB was literally on top of the USC WR in the endzone and CAL intercepted the ball (cuz it was tipped) in USC end zone. Clear as night and day. Is that CAL domination or CAL being fortunate?

So please stop the BS CAL dominated USC. USC held the #1 offensive team in the country to 17 pts. Carroll does not care about stats, he cares about wins. That is why Carroll plays 3rd stingers and walkons in blowouts! Giving CAL everything underneath and making them MARCH down the field put USC in the best position to win. Guess what? IT WORKED! Take away some bad breaks for USC, and USC would have been up by 9pts or 13 pts late in the 4th and CAL would have had no chance to win. Those are the facts. The breaks are part of the game but you MUST factor them in when analyzing a game.

If you still think that is domination, then you obviously have no respect for gameplans. Tedford is an awesome coach and he did not challenge USC deep because it would not have worked. Some coaches will force things and CAL loves to throw deep. Cal took what USC gave them but CAL (#1 offensive team in the country) only scored 17pts. Job well done by Carroll.

All in all, stats don't win championships. If you watched or studied the game, USC gave CAL open WR's underneath all game long, because USC took away everything deep. Often that will frustrate a QB or even a coach, but CAL did exactly what they should do, take what the defense gives you. Cal just came up short at the end in a tough game.

BTW Greed, can you tell me why AU is not getting a fair share in the BCS??? Are you impressed with AU's #84 SOS? Auburns 3 road wins in 9 games? AU's OOC wins over La. Monroe, Citadel, and La. Tech? WHAT HAS AUBURN DONE TO BE PUT #1? Then you must compare what USC, OU etc have accomplished.

I'm sorry, but there is NO WAY anyone can say that USC is the undisputed number 1.

They've had ONE impressive win (Ariz State) against a good team. The rest have been nailbiters against good to mediocre to bad teams, or blowouts against horribly BAD teams.

USC should have lost to Vtech, Stanford and got completely DOMINATED by Cal; just watch the game and you know Cal gave the game away with stupid mistakes. I would love to see USC one dimensional offense go up against Auburn or OU defense. They would do just like Cal do hold USC to around 200 yards except they would not give them those stupid mistakes. I guess Norm Chow in the biggest game of the year forgot to bring the playbook when he rolled up an impressive 204 total yards against Cal. Very Very Impressive Thats why the guys is 90 years old and never has been offered a HC position. :142lmao: :142lmao:
Also last thing didnt Auburn destroy Tenn by 24 points at Tennesse and isnt Tenn #8 in the BCS standings that is Scott for you just disregard the facts and post whatever you want who cares about the facts. Yea I am sure its Carrolls game plan to let them roll up tons of yards and be one pass away from getting beat. You are such a joke.
Please go away. Post some more winners like Idaho + the points; what did I tell you take Troy State easy winner. Keep to posting pro USC home crap and leave the capping for me. :moon:

As for the USC defense, they are the #1 defense in the country.

Speaking of facts I cant find that one anywhere?

I show:
Alabama #1 Total Defense - 221 yds/game
Wisconsin #1 Scoring Defense - 8.5 pts/game (FYI Auburn #2)
Boise State #1 rushing Defense - 64.1 yards / game
Alabama #1 Passing Defense - 106 yds/game

Now granted USC is in the top ten in in all categories except Passing D. Auburn is ahead of USC in 2 out the 4 and only one spot behind in total Defense.

I think the whole point of this thread is that there are still alot of good teams left. Hopefully they will play good enough teams to weed out the wannabees. USC is great, Auburn is great, Oklahoma is great, cant overlook Wisky's incredible Defense. Cal is awesome, but they lost to USC, they are not better, they will not play again to prove the point that they are. The biggest jokes I personally think are Tennessee and Georgia. I could eat my words but Auburn is going to manhandle Georgia. Forcing them to probably play again against Tennessee. Championship games really hurt the SOS, but beating a top 20 team twice will be impressive enough to shoot Auburn over Oklahoma.

I will give one thing to you overzealous trojan, USC will be the team to beat next year if leinhart stays.

One more thing Scott, Might want to check that SOS stat. It has changed a little since you looked it up 2 weeks ago.

OOPS!! I have to correct myself. Found the SOS that Scott was referring to at Sagarin's, but also saw their SOS ranked as low as 32. Wierd huh? Scott, might want to follow Massey's SOS ratings, they make USC look even better. Ranked #5 SOS. I would be wiling to put a dime on who has the higher SOS by the end of the season, Auburn or USC.

bbk, I'm the one who posted the Idaho play you jack ass. More total yrds & time of poss and still lose 47-7? Losing the starting Qb hurt bad as back up threw 3 picks as did the 80 yd fumble return, 60 punt return and 40 yd int return, but you cant win them all. I'll make it up on Flor Atl. this week getting 14 vs Troy! A loss, but I stand by the belief that teams that rely soley on D are great as double digit dogs, horrible as double digit favs.

As for who is #1? USC, barely over OU and Cal. They would be 8-10 pt fav's over Auburn and win convincingly. Cal and OU would be tough games on a neutral field. AP makes the Sooners very complete on O, D is still a big ?

Great post anyone with half a brain knows OU and Auburn have played tougher sch; I think scott gets his SOC from www.trojanare#1.com; :142lmao:
They have played one decent team in vtech and got lucky by the phantom pass int call that saved them and then got dominated by the best team they have played in cal and came one pass away from getting beat; the will be favorded by 2 td's the rest of the year and dont have to play a champ game while ou and auburn actually have to play tough games and both play in a champ game
i bet by the end of the year USC SOC will be somewhere like 80-90 guaranteeeeed

im no usc fan, but i dont care what the SOS numbers say, there is no way auburn has played a tougher schedule than usc.

auburn has played two tough games the whole year (lsu and tennessee) and they should have lost the lsu game if not for a miracle last minute drive. and had they lost that game, they would have scored all of 3 points....at home.

other than lsu and tennessee, the COMBINED record of the auburn opponents to date is 18-36.

i repeat.... 18 and 36.

now having said that, auburn has a chance to shut everyone up by winning out. if they do that, then nobody can argue their schedule.

but as of november 2, 2004, their schedule is downright awful.

Quick note:

I didn't notice when I posted it, but the SOS rankings I showed are for the ENTIRE year, including future opponents. (using current records, which will obviously change)

If you count this weeks teams combined record for USC opponents 33-29
OU 43-29
what kills AU is their non conf schedule where they dont really play anyone but they make up for when they play Georgia and Bama (#1 rated defense in the country) on the road at the end of the year and a top 10 team in the SEC champ game; while USC plays Or State, Arizona (give me a break); notre dame and UCLA (got taken out to the woodshed by OSU); Remember its your OVERALL schedule not one game.

thanks. im no SOS schedule, so i dont know if those include just the teams played to date, or if they take the entire schedule into account. auburn has a backloaded schedule, so theyll get their chance to prove everyone right or wrong, and thats really all a team can ask for. im by no means saying theyre not a damn good team. just saying that id rather wait until they beat georgia before we start talking national title.

BBK why are you so obsessed with me? You spend way too much time talking about me. I posted 2 of my personal plays on madjacks last week. I posted 1 unit on Idaho (loser) and 5 units on New Mexico (winner). Why did you say this......

You are such a joke.

My post about New Mexico.......

My biggest bet this weekend is.......

New Mexico +3.5 @ Colorado State, and 1 unit UNM +130 ml for 5 units total.

UNM runs the ball better and stops the run better even with the recent emergence of Ram RB Gerrald Green. On defense, the Lobos allow 114 yds/gm, vs the Rams 207.

UNM is 3-1 vs CSU last 4, and 4-1 ATS last 5 in fort Collins, they are also 5-1 ATS after San Diego State.

No team in NCAA football plays harder than Rocky Long's Lobos, he will have them ready and the huge disparity in running the ball and stopping the run make this a strong play for me.

:nono:

BBK, you are too easy to make fun of. You keep putting your foot in your mouth. Stop your obsession with me and I will stop making you look bad.
