Elena Dementieva to win US Open $41.00 (40-1) *half unit

Dinara Safina to win US Open $101.00 (100-1) *0.25 unit

Not sure if Elena is 100% or not, but that is why odds are so good, worth a shot:shrug:

Safina has been #1 in the world, and yes, has struggled, but you can't blame me for taking her at 100-1:scared

kickserv bol I like the dinara play for sure. I might go against Dementieva in her match against bondarenko soley based on value. Bondarenko beat her in their most recent meeting in Tokyo on hard surface. Do I think Elena is better def but not going to risk that much on her at this point especially with possibility of not being 100%!

I've looked over the women's bracket and there is a glaring lack of dominance. Some may say the bracket is wide open. I tend to believe it is Clijsters tournament to lose.

Clijsters is +350 to win a tournament that she has won twice before. Without Serena I can't lay money on anybody else. Just look at the top 12 women. Only Venus (7), Clijsters (2), Kuznetsova (2), and Schiavone (1) have won Grand Slams.

I am always enticed by the price on Elena Dementieva, but the fact is she has yet to win a Slam and has not even played in the final of a major since 2004. Jankovic has won just once in her last five matches following a retirement and the rest of these girls have yet to prove they can win when the lights are at their brightest. I'll take the proven "veteran" in Clijsters at such a tasty price at most Slams.

Clijsters +350 10 units to won 35

I just read this. Still in with my bet but wanted others to know before they played either way. From the New York Times:

Clijsters, who won in Cincinnati two weeks ago, injured her left hip in the quarterfinals in Montreal last week. After she plucked numbers out of the United States Open trophy in Thursday?s draw, Clijsters said that she was feeling better, that she had a precautionary test on the hip, and that there was no way she would miss defending her title.

So there. I'm still in for 10 units...

I watched that match in Montreal, she was in pain that's for sure. But I am sure she's at least 85% healed.

3 Canuck men enter US Open qualies.....

3 Canuck men in last round of qualies.....:00hour

On Saturday hopefully Dancevic, Polansky and Raonic can make main draw US Open. :00hour

Would be first time ever that 3 Canucks went through qualies and qualified for a Grand Slam in singles.

And ummmmmm.....when is the last time we even had three men in a main draw of a grand slam singles?? Not sure the answer to that question but it has been quite some time.

J.MILLMAN versus :canada1 P.POLANSKY

D.GUEZ versus :canada1 M.RAONIC

K.NISHIKORI versus :canada1 F.DANCEVIC

I think Raonic will lose in straight sets, but I think Dancevic and Polansky
will win!

2 outta 3 would be greatdance2

Note: I have a win over Dancevic so I always cheer for him to win because that makes me a better player then I actually was:mj07:

Can't resist this one...

Novak Djokovic +1625

Nole has been quietly solid all summer long and his last three U.S. Open performances have been finals, semis, and semis. Certainly a tough draw featuring Baghdatis, Fish and Roddick, three players with excellent results this summer. Roddick worries me as Novak is ONE top player who AROD has had success against consistently.

1.5 to win 24.37 units

You can be certain that you'll see a picture of a stud named Nadal around here someplace too!

(after LAST night's tremendous match, Wozzie/Dement... you just might be on to something, Kick). Good luck with that one.

Kick I hope you don't mind if I post my plays in this thread.

Taking a small chance with Robert Kendrick +253 over Gael Monfils. Gael played admittably terrible his last time out. Should prevail but he has a history of mental letdowns.

1 unit Kendrick +253

No worries......but keep in mind that after Penn makes his post, his entourage will also be making posts about how great he is and how he does no wrong. Then after his picks lose, Penn will say that all the players he bet on had vasoline on their racquets.

Your boy has had a good summer....maybe he'll make a good run at the Open. He has a very tough 1st round match though. Two "wiley vets" will be going at it. If your boy does get by 1st round he'll most likely face Robredo. Just a brutal draw for your boy. Maybe you need to send him a "motivational e-mail"

Talk about a rough draw:scared
