England, u.k.
Also Gavin Hastings who played fullback for Scotland had trails for two NFL teams whilst still playing club and international rugby. He trailed for Seahawks and Bears.

He failed going less than 50% from 40 -50 yards.

Also tried his hand at punting, but found it difficult to kick any great distance and even had trouble keeping the ball in the sir for more than 4.5 seconds (hang time).

Ander as usual was spot on. It was the great Naas Botha.

Gavin Hastings also played regular football in Europe with the Scottish Claymores, but he is hardly a good example. (Who can forget that missed kick bang in front of the posts in a Five Nations match??)

However, I am talking about the more elite footballers that are playing rugby. I am sure Johnny Wilkinson would have no trouble banging over field goals from in front of the posts from about 40 yards, or keeping the ball in the air for over four seconds. I know there are slightly different kicking skills between the both sports, but a naturally gifted footballer should be able to easily adjust. Wilkinson is one example, but there are some very good kickers in world rugby, who I am sure would fit into a NFL slot nicely.

the land of confusion
We can watch ex-AFL footballer Darren Bennett playing for San Diego Chargers v Miami. He's been their punter for many years now and is making a good living for minimum field time.
He was a booming kick over here in our football code.

He has literally "kicked on" :D

Of course it was Botha. Thanks for the memory jog guys but was it really 20 years ago. God I'm getting old LOL. As for Bennett, what a great example of a world class kicker adapting to American football. You are right Crooky, I'm sure there are many out there that could do the same thing. Good Luck with all your plays this week. Brick
