I wonder if Dougie Fischer will still refer to Valero as "my son." He may want to consider disowning him after this.

Awful tragedy all the way around. Damn shame. I always thought of Valero a likable rogue. Never expected this out him.

What could that little waif have done to inflame him so much? I imagine nothing that would warrant any physical abuse, never mind a death sentence.

He couldn't have just done this about 30 hours prior and spared his own children the loss of their mother? Now I am surprised...cowards usually dont have the guts to take their own life. Valero is responsible for this but some Ven officials will always have blood on their hands for allowing the guy to walk several weeks ago. Pure speculation on my part but have a feeling Hugo Chavez had a serious roll in letting him off the hook. Had a gut wrenching anger all day after yesterdays news...can't say the more recent news will have the same effect but I do feel for those totally innocent kids.

wouldn`t shock me one bit....the guy was a national hero.....

would have been very interesting to see how it played out had valero decided to roll with it....i think he would have had a shot at getting off "relatively" easy(even considering the heinous nature of the crime)...

A similar situation happened a few years back with the pro wrestler Chris Benoit.
He murdered his wife and kid and then killed himself.
But this Valero situation seemed more preventable - the guy was spiraling out of control for months.

Valero had brain damage, a serious alcohol problem, internal demons, history of domestic abuse, etc. Ticking time bomb.

Valero Denied The Murder, Relatives Reveal Dark Secrets
http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&opt=printable&id=27058

"The story Valero gave to his wife's family, was the exact story Valero gave to police in Carabobo, according to a source who was present in the police station.

"I did not kill her. We were being pursued by some thugs and they killed her," Valero was quoted as saying by the source."

He was keeping Jennifer on drugs since January when they lived in Caracas. He forced her to take them, or else he would have killed her, her children and her mother. During the ten years of marriage, she was always under threat of death."

Eloiza Vivas, the mother of Edwin Valero, blames the legal system of Venezuela. She says the system failed her son, who was very ill from over a decade of drug and alcohol abuse.

"The authorities of this country are responsible for everything. It's true that I have to take the blame for not saying anything, but Edwin was very ill. He was using drugs since age 18 and drank a lot," said Eloiza Vivas.

There are now conspiracy theories in Venezuela that Valero was so high from a combination of drugs and alcohol, that he may have mistakenly killed his wife during a extreme hallucination and once the high wore off and he began to realize what had happened, he took his own life.
