I really liked Night Crawler too. Saw Foxcatcher last week. Very intense and a hard watch but good. Steve Carell was awesome in a very dramatic role.

I really liked Night Crawler too. Saw Foxcatcher last week. Very intense and a hard watch but good. Steve Carell was awesome in a very dramatic role.
I saw it too, in parts it was hard to watch the self destructive tendencies gamblers have, but I enjoyed the ending...:0corn

The Gambler = Average at best. I would give it 5.5 out of 10.
American Sniper = 9 out of 10. One of my favorites of the year, along with Chef.
Birdman = I liked it, but not great and certainly not in the top echelon of the best movies of the year 7.5 out of 10.
Gone girl = Solid flick, would rate it higher if Affleck wasn't in it. 8 out of 10.
Going to watch Foxcatcher, Whiplash, and Unbroken soon.

Loved Birdman, saw it twice. Should win many Academy Awards. Foxcatcher and Whiplash are great films, Unbroken doesn't make the cut for me. But the Imitation Game does.
Agree with American Sniper. Also my top movie of the year of the ones I have seen.
Birdman and Whiplash are way over-rated in my opinion but very good above average flicks.
Nightcrawler is not on your list and should be. Jake Gyllenhaal's performance was excellent and he should definitely get an Oscar nomination for that. I rate that one above Whiplash and Birdman.
Haven't seen Foxcatcher or Unbroken but will today or tomorrow.
I saw The Drop last night and liked that one a lot too.
The Equalizer is my kind of movie but it won't win any awards.
Back to The Gambler; I thought John Goodman lost a shit ton of weight? I guess he went back on the old program and gained it all back and then some. Great acting job in The Gambler though.
I'll try to stick some ratings in here on those mentioned.
Yeah, I forgot a few. I saw the Drop too and wow was that good (8/10). Agree on Nightcrawler (8.5/10) and Equalizer (8/10) too, enjoyed them both.
Watched the Imitation Game (7.5/10), while it was good and I really liked the movie it was not great for me but it may win some awards. While I like movies like that, and the Theory of Everything (7.5/10), they don't totally do it for me.
On another note, I read Nolan Dalla's review on the gambler and while it was a bit harsh I did agree with a lot of what he said.

Looks like your taste for movies and mine are a lot alike as I agree with your ratings. I haven't seen Imitation Game yet either but will this week for sure.
Geez, I finally watched Lone Survivor too and really liked that one. I usually stay away from the war movies, don't particularly care for them.

Watched Foxcatcher yesterday (8.5/10) I'm rating this one very highly because I had read about this true event before and I thought it was depicted very well in this film. Carell did a fantastic job in this movie, didn't think he would make such a good transition from Comedy. Also, really liked it being about wrestling as I use to participate in the sport.
Unbroken (7/10) This was a good movie and I really did like it that it was a true story. However, it was a bit slow in parts and after seeing the trailer and all the hype I was expecting more.
