I smoked for about 11 years
right out of high school until 1990 when my wife was pregnant with our first born
I promised myself that my kids would not have to put up with smoke in our household
That and I wanted to see my kids grow up and see the family they will raise.

I haven't touch one since.

Actually it was easy for me just set my mind to it.

I am only 24 and smoked for about six years and quitting was the best thing I ever did....it's a gross habit and you will be so happy once you get over the tough first couple of weeks....good luck

Roughest time is right now for me Jack.In office drinking coffee in early am.Good thing the cleaning crew was in yesterday and emptied all the trash to avoid temptation of looking for a long butt.LOL Got some of the gum in case of emergency.Just think how much better we'll feel in a week or too.

jack smoked for seven years and just stopped cold turkey 2 months ago..i haventnever felt this good in exactly seven years...it is so true, get past the first 3-5 days and you will be fine..if you really want to stop you will, its up to you....the temptation is always there but when it comes to me I just think of how bad i used to feel and it quickly disappears..
cheers and GL!

Roughest time is right now for me Jack

i've only been up for 2 hours and every minute has been tough. 2 voices in my head are in constant battle.

"you'll never do it. go ahead and have a smoke"

"yes, i will. i hate cigarettes. i'm going to do it."

"no you won't"

"yes i will"

feel like i'm losing it. lmao!

thanks for the encouragement, guys. this will be hard. for me anyway.

Jack have buddy that swears by the nicotine inhalers. If it comes to that try it. Think I can make it with the gum but as last resort will go that route also.

Definitely with you guys.

Jack, those two voices are evil.. But remember, at first you have to quit one temptation at a time. If you beat one, you can beat them all.

Good luck to you both.

Jack,
Let's see if my first post can actually help someone. Here's a trick I used to get myself to stop 10 years ago.

Take you last pack of butts and hang them on your mantal, or somewhere you can see them regularly. Post the date and time real big above those butts. Every time you go reaching for a butt, you'll see the date and time of your last butt. Every time you look, it will be a longer period since your last one. Eventually, it becomes real easy to sell yourself because you'll keep saying to yourself "well I haven't had one since than, so there's no need to start now." Plus if you have one, you ruin your date and time stamp and be choking on stale butts. Try it.

Good luck.

Jack + DTB....
Hows it goin guys??? C'mon down and talk about the battle...IT HELPS!
Jack...I hear ya...it really is a 10 to 15 minute battle the first day or so and THE VOICES..Thats the drug man..dont listen. Its not smoke you want and crave...its the nicotine and that drug talks to you. I was blaming my family and everyone in general for me being in that (quitting) predicament.
I really didnt want to quit. I like smoking.. People should mind their own biz and let a person smoke if thats what they wanna do. Those were the voices..I forgot that 24 hours before that I really wanted desperately to quit.
This is the toughest day...hope you and DTB are still holdin your own
Hows it goin?

bear--i'm really having a rough time with this and almost blew it already. in fact, i was ready to run to the store and asked my wife if she needed anything and she talked me out of doing it. that was around 1:00 and it was a tough one but the last few hours haven't been that bad. i think i'll make it today and give it try again tomorrow.

thanks for the support. it's hard!
