when you were growing up?
first was a 1961 Ford Galaxie Wagon, like you see here. It was 6 cylinder, three on the tree. 223 cu. inch straight 6 (145 hp)... I loved the flat metal wagon bed in back.
later in the 60s my dad had a Renault Dauphine like this! He loved how nimble it was darting thru traffic, cornering and parking. (51.6 cu. 30 hp.)
but my favorite car of his was the 1969 Mercury Montego MX he had in the mid-70s. 351 Windsor 4 bbl (290 hp), fine 8 track tape. His was a cool Burgundy color, but otherwise looked like this:
he needed a more family-freindly car, reluctantly sold the Merc to a co-worker, who was giving it to his daughter for HS graduation. She wrapped it around a tree two weeks later. I don't think she was hurt, as I just heard about the car being history and sent to wrecker...I assume if she was hurt, that woulda been mentioned at the time...but now I'm not so sure...
the family car I ended up inheriting, as my 1st car, was a 1971 Torino Brougham. 351 Cleveland 2 bbl (240 hp). It was same color as this one, but did not have the hideaway headlights. I've owned 3 other Torinos of the same vintage since then (so far) as I like the looks, and know real well now how to work on them....the fit and finish of American cars of that vintage was just crap compared to today though!
