I would think if you have real concerns, then address them before they become real problems!
if you think the booze is an issue, give it up for a while and see how your life is affected. I was drinking a little to much, really slowed it down, and the more I slowed it down the more I realized I drank a lot more than I thought I did. Just because I thought I was really functioning at an ok level, and I really wasn't.
Now I drink about twice a month, but I'm going to try and cut that out for a while also. When I drink it doesn't seem to be socially, it's too get shit-faced.
like you always hear the key word for anything like that is "Moderation"
I wish you the best!

That is me word for word. Not drinking right now makes be understand how much I have been doing it.

I do miss it. Next weekend I'm hosting a poker game/BBQ. I am still trying to decide if I'll drink or not.

periodically, life knocks us all off our 'horse' and we need to adjust and learn how to keep our life in balance. Life is constantly pushing us to evolve and improve. Make the adjustments, get back up on your 'horse' and enjoy the football season..:0008

Good stuff fellas. I'm going to beat it. Its nothing more than committing to not partake in excessive boozing.

I think im going to start by hitting the gym when i have a stressful day instead of a beer.

Im in control. No sweat.

And I wrote this because tomorrow after I sit in the gym sauna and release the toxins, Ill fell better.. I'll be in control. and Ill say, sorry guys, I was drinking. Everything is fine.

But now I get to read it.

And Ill be embarrassed. And hopefully I'll think hard about it.

Wow, this is exactly what i did.

So, knowing i dont drink during the week, ill circle back next saturday.

Thanks again.

Woodson,

I stopped routinely betting on sports about 6 years ago. It was one of the best decisions I've made. Look at it this way...there are many of us here that still post that have stopped wagering on sports. I've read lots of them say what an awesome decision it was. I've yet to read one of us say they made the wrong choice and wish they still were capping. I was a prisoner...to the lines, my computer, my phone, the scoretracker...you only realize how much a prisoner once it's all behind you.

Best of luck, you've taken the first (and most difficult) step.

You said you're quitting betting big not betting altogether right?

Little bets lead back to big bets if you are betting on credit, which I assume he is doing.

I quit handicapping at the end of 2002 and never missed it a bit. I still bet games here and there and only follow other players or just take a stab if I'm in the mood. This worked for me.

As far as drinking goes, I just drink beer only on Saturday's only, if I feel my drinking is getting out of hand. That works for me too.

All the best, woody.

There is no way i could not place a wager my remaining life. I just cant place wagers totalling 15k in a weeks span ever ever again.

Again, appreciate All the feedback, support and blessings.

At 34 i am at a fork of enjoying life or complicating it.

Moderation moderation and moderation. With drinking im going to try no drinking this coming weekend.

One small step and all.

On the course!
I'm glad some of you guys are having a little talk with your inner voice. I think there are many guys here at Jack's who have been in the boat for a while, so you won't catch the heat some of us did early on.

I caught so much shit around here, back when I gave serious gambling up.........not from everyone, but from enough. Kinda like it was a "pussy move" to stop gambling, and still hang out here. Well, there are a lot of nice posters here, and gambling on sports is just a fraction of what goes on here.

As for the drinking, I think most of you know that I don't do it. Never have. But, that seems to be more of a "sport" around here than the gambling at times. I get it......It's just not me. It's actually the primary reason I lean towards not attending the golf outtings.

I wish you guys all the best in your quests! I'm sure it won't be easy, but take the gambling aspect from someone who knows: You can hang out here, and not miss it one bit!

I mean not post-up. It's harder to lose when you post in advance, especially harder to bet $2K on a game.

Well, I guess you can't come to the boat this weekend either and hang out in Cocktail Cove.

J/K Woody....good luck in your choices. 15k in one week is enough to make a person stop and think, I agree

Agreed. I generally play far more responsibly offshore, but very loose on credit accts. I also have no time to cap games and it has reflected in the past 2 years of losses. In fact, aside from golf, I have lost interest in capping. I went on a recent run by tailing and fading plays on the MLB board and once I collected I stopped playing until football cranks up.

I always say that if you think there might be a problem, then there usually is. No doubt in my mind that you'll continue to grow as a man from here. Good luck, Woodson :0074

I play loose offshore and tight on credit I haven't played on credit in over 10 years though

Can't wait for football season, I will be betting each week, about 5 college and 3 pro games a week plus all primetime games

Yea. Thanks.

Like everyone else I double stressed and I blow steam.

Everything is fine as stated but priorities could be elsewhere.

Alright nothing to see... move along move along.

Your one of the guys i do like to read your takes on certain games. I do strongly agree that alcohol and gambling is a bad mixture. We have all been there at one time in our life. I respect your feelings that you can be a better husband without the mixture of alcohol and gambling. It does require so much time and is stressful when things are'nt going well. The good thing is that you have recognized these faults or problems on your own and have taken the first steps yourself. Everyone on here is behind you and will offer support. I play large money poker and bet probably too much my self, but i could never blend alcohol with gambling and be a winner. When i played rookie baseball back in the early eighties, cocaine was everywhere, free at parties and in everyones locket around they're necks. I used to call my friends in Iowa and tell them about it. I would tell them it's hard enough to hit a foot strike zone sober or not high, can you imagine how hard it would be fucked up. Same with gambling buddy. i wish you all the luck, and i am behind you brother. ARROW :toast:
