hey...dirk must be playing like an mvp here in the last minute of this half going 1-1 and drawing his team even......despite his 0-8 prior to that

guy is not a superstar

like u said , you can pick 15 guys before u pick him...hes a superstar.
now if you want to use a few games here in this series to make your point, dont bother.thats not what im talking about....si guess peyton manning wasnt a superstar until this year either.nor was barry bonds until he finally hit in the playoffs.....im done with this hes obviously a top 20 player in the league, hence a superstar........no body said all time great, just perennial allstar player=superstar

exactly my point..imo if you think hes the 16th best player in the leauge,,lets say TOP 15 PLAYER in the league hes is a SUPERSTAR.not an all time great and not the best of the best.hes a superstar in the league today....id say there are about 20 in the league and hes one of them..thats the point im trying to make here....
and yeh sponge i saw the whole game,it looks like thats all youve seen..ive seen about 100 of his games in the last couple years.and hes a superstar in todays nba...we may have diffrent interpertation of what makes a superstar, actually we obviously do if you think king james is not one of them.you my freind are a hater

Moe im not the kind of guy that lets espn determine for me who is a superstar. James has gotten a lot of heat this year for under achieving. Yes you are right to me Jordan was a superstar and i havent seen anyone get near that level besides Kobe and he isnt close to Jordan. A superstar knows how to play defense in my opinion and Dirk plays none. Same as Nash. An MVP who stinks on defense. I know you wouldn't but i would take Hamilton over Dirk.

I used to collect Topps cards as a kid. I believe only 5 or so players per year got "superstar" status. The rest were "all-stars" or "future stars". I could be wrong, my memory sucks.

Not sure Moe caught the first half. Maybe if Dirk spent less time flopping he could do a lot better. Every time he drives to the net he looks for a foul and 90 percent of the time no one touches him and he falls on the floor.

he does look real bad right now no doubt, and i hope he does the rest of the night, got a nice play on gstate game ans sereis...but im talking wholebody of work.........hes definatley making me look like an idiot right now ..but,like i sais im talking hiswhol;e body of work in the leage in a great confrence the last few years..hes held his own,,and came up big in the clutch plenty of times

you guys are arguing over semantics really.

there are 3 superstars in the nba today...that's it. a whole category unto themselves:

Kobe, Lebron, and Nash. Thats it. Some could argue Duncan, but i would vehemently oppose that.

there is a second tier with the dirks, and mcgradys, iversons, dwayne wades, and ray allens. really, really good. enough to make all star teams, but hardly a lock for the hall of fame if they retire tomorrow except maybe iverson.

then there is your next tier with carmelo, boozer, kirilenko, and shawn marions, and amare stoudamire (he will be in the 2nd group soon enough).

but you get the point. there's only 3 superstars. but i agree with moe that he's probably in the top 15 or 20 in the league. definitely an all-star, but not a hall of famer or world champion, at leat yet.

maybe your right, but imo its the go to guy on the team (helps to be the one on a good team),perinial allstar, high scorer, wins games, big contract, super popular(famous, known)by this last won i mean like josh smith is great and possible superstar but plays on the hawks..or perfect examlpe JAY richardson,if this guy was on the spurs the last 5 years hed be a household name...also if injured team tanks...thisstuff is what makes a guy a superstar in the nba...am i missing somethi g here,,,and im not talking about championships, you do not need them to be a superstar..u need them to be a great.

FWIW there are only a handful of guys I would take before Dirk. He's one of the best in the NBA, no doubt. I realize he's struggled in the playoffs but that doesn't mean he's not a great player. Look at A-Rod for example... he's been bad in the playoffs but he's still one of the greatest players I've ever seen and you could make the argument that he's the best player in baseball.

I heard somebody ripping Dirk the other day because he didn't have many back-to-back 30 point games in the playoffs. Wow. Is that the measuring stick??? He plays on a team that is ridiculously loaded with talent but if he isn't consistenly scoring 30 or more every game in the playoffs people have a problem with him? I guess I just don't look at it that way...

Lets stop putting James ahead of Wade okay. I like a guy who can take over a game and not one who throws up airballs and misses foul shots and loafs half the time. People think this kid is the god of basketball because it was drilled down our throats. Maybe some day but no way not now. I know i might eat crow here because the NfixBA is setting up James real nice in the playoff run with the stiff job the Bulls did in there last game to let Cleveland get the easy ride. One thing i do like about James is he is a good defender which i think is huge but he doesn't like to do it that much. Jordan was the best defensive and offensive player in the league in my opinion.

other than a few select games. .....the guy shrinks in the biggest moments, hence he is NOT A SUPERSTAR.....when he's not shrinking, he's floating around 25 feet from the basket....HES NOT A SUPERSTAR AND NEVER HAS BEEN

this is not semantics, a nice player in a waterdowned leauge who cant HANDLE THE ENTIRE FOCUS OF A DEFENSE....he'd be a great second banana....did i mention he does little to improve the play of his teammates with assists, rebounding, floor leadership and confidence???

As Nash. You put Nash on the sixers and you won't hear about Nash anymore. Im not saying Dirk is a bad player but when its playoff time the teams start getting much better. He reminds me of Donovan Mcnab. They just disappear and it is because the teams are better.

maybe.....lebron will get there one way or another if stern has any say.

but wade isn't in the same category as kobe or nash. not yet anyway.

you can take lebron off that list for now, and even put him ahead of wade, but not up there with kobe and nash.

wade does have a hell of a heart though
