I really liked Cawood Ledford too. My favorite line that he used to say was, "Terrible call!" or even better, "ATROCIOUS CALL!!"

Jack Buck is one of my all time favs too.

My favorite hoops man (color) is Bill Raftery. I still remember watching a Pitt game in I think 1988 he called. Jerome Lane did a monster dunk and brought down the backboard, then he said, "SEND IT IN, JEROME!" I still love that call, probably my favorite of all time.

I know most people hate him, but I like Dickie V.

My vote for worst goes to these hoops announcers. Billy Packer (most overrated, terrible announcer of all time), George Raveling, Bill Walton, and the immortal, JOE DEAN.

last night McCarver announced that Schilling and Johnson were a better duo of pitchers than Koufax and Drysdale....hmmm...I respectfully disagree...

Hoops Johnny Most
Bases Mel Allen
Hockey Danny Gallivan

must admit I like Musberger(on the radio) when he's bet on the same team I have

Celtic fans help me out. Your radio announcer back about 10 yr. was the greatest. "Bird, with the ball"& the way he said it still sticks in my mind as the greatest.

I raised my eyebrows when I heard that comment comparing Schilling/Johnson to Koufax/Drysdale. But nothing McCarver says surprises me.

Most overdramatic? I'm inclined to agree w/Dr. Freeze on Musburger, who was very good on NFL on CBS in the studio but is terrible doing play by play. When Notre Dame was playing Nebraska and when Penn State was getting killed earlier in the year, he spent the entire broadcast making excuses for those teams. Joe McConnell, the former Bears and Vikings and current Purdue announcer had an irritating habit that every play was life and death:

"Ball at the Bears 45. The pitch to Payton; he looks, he jukes (his voice is getting louder in pitch and intensity at this point), Payton's at the 46,47, call it near the 48 yard line."

As a bettor you'd get a heart attack on every play.

To be honest I agree with McCarver to a point. I see them as equals. Back then offensive output was much lower on average then today and Koufax/Drysdale pitched in the best pitchers park back then. Koufax's road ERAs back then were usually 3.00 to 2.00 so Dodger stadium made him that much more dominant.

For me growing up as a Yankee fan,Mel Allen broadcasting over the radio while we hung out at the beach is special.Whenever anyone hit a homerun,he called it a Ballantine Blast.Ballantine use to be a sponser of the games.
Marv Albert IMO is a great basketball announcer especially when he did the Knick games.
In football Marty Glickman was a great football announcer especially when he did the Giant games on radio.
I dont pay much attention to today's announcers because I usually do work during a sporting event so I don't really listen.

Have to agree with SixFive on Bill Raftery.

" and St. John's breaks out in a........mannnaman." LOL

Valuist-too funny on Joe McConnell.

I like Bill Hillgrove's Steelers play-by-play.

Best announcer ever-Cosell. Above and beyond any other.
