these two schools sit about 30-some miles apart, furman in greenville and wofford in spartanburg. they have been archrivals for more than 100 years in football and basketball. but tonight, the level of play will be a little more intense than most games. in this spot terriers have a slight edge because of their deeper lineup and tournament draw. while wofford cruised to easy wins over etsu and vmi, furman played a track meet, up-tempo game game against samford on saturday, and followed that with a hard fought overtime win over conference favorite utc last night. to top it off, furman just beat wofford in spartanburg last saturday in the final game of the regular season, by burying a trey with 1 second left in regulation to complete the regular season sweep of their rival. tonight have to believe the terriers are motivated and have a little fresher legs, enough i think to avoid losing to the paladins (still my favorite nickname) for the third time this season.

paladin - that solitary knight -errant that fights for the noble cause against all odds. that always struck me as the perfect team nickname. and then, of course, there was richard boone playing the western paladin, with his business card "have gun will travel." thats just badass to me, but it's tied up in the memories of a 10 year old boy. but "banana slugs" ??? that's just fucking cool. i'm going online to look for merc now!

hahahahahaha i was thinking about doing that, too.

let's go, terriers!

terriers are pack animals and should easily handle a bunch of solitary knights. :)

woof woof!!!

btw, I thought that was a great game to watch~ both teams shot well, especially from deep, and worked hard on defense and rebounding, leads switching bk and forth, exciting! nice call loop!
(and I won my bet so woof woof!)

the three point shooting was amazing - 40% by furman and 50% by wofford. most of them nothing but net. and just as we hoped, furman's shooting and overall play seemed to fall off in the last few minutes when, it meant the most.

definitely a great game to watch - two good teams playing at their best.

and thanks bg, always gratifying to have a shared streak. we all know how quickly a few bad bounces can turn good handicapping to mush.
