To play SAWGRASS you have to stay at the Mariott. I know I've played it. Or you have to be a member. Its always loaded with people from the hotel.

For a cheap midwest-east coast get away from gambling golf weekend, (I mean really get away from any gambling distractions) may I suggest Crossville, Tennessee for some mountain golf. Crossville is halfway between Nashville and Knoxville.

We usually make the trip twice a year in the spring and fall. I've been going down here for the last 5 or 6 years. This year our group is going the weekend of 5-15. We leave Cincinnati early Friday morning, drive to Crossville (pick up some guys who fly in Knoxville) and are on the tee at about 1:00 PM (we gain an hour on the drive down as Crossville is in the central time zone).

Play 18 on Friday, 36 on Saturday, 18 on Sunday morning then leave for Cincinnati and get home about 8:00 PM. Miss one day of work. Lodging (condos and houses), greens fees, carts, breakfast is about $300.00. Yes, I said $300.00. Food and beer varies depending upon consumption.

I take $500 bucks and have a great time smoking cigars, looking for my ball on the sides of mountains, telling lies to my friends, eating pulled pork at the local hole in the wall (Lefty's) then going to the one and only strip joint in Crossville which features paunchy 18 year old girls, takeing off their clothes and finding, to the amazement of the crowd of at least 5 or 6 rather unkept, apparently regular locals, that each of their breasts coincidentally equal the number of teeth in their mouth.

Based on the photographs of Raymond, if he is considering going, may I suggest that he bring at least one thousand dollars. The girls really get into it when Rocky Top comes blaring over the juke box. Quite an experience for this progressive, big-city intellectual who speaks with a radically different dialect than Thelma Jean aka Bubbles and Sally Sue aka Trixie.

Anyway, golf is good, trip is cheap, beers are cold, cigars are burning, and doesn't take you away from your significant other for a drastically long period of time. Also its rather centrally located so its easy to get too for those Madjackers from below the Mason Dixon line as well as for those of us with organs that actually work.

Maybe Vyrus and the gang could make an appearance.

Kneifl:

Thanks. I was wondering if you could tell me where you got that shirt. I'd like to get one with a slight variation. I'd like to find a shirt where the little hand is pointing to the right instead of downward. That way, if Jack goes to Crossville in May, I'll stand to his left for all photo ops.

Jack it would be wonderful if you and a number of other Madjackers would be interested in the May trip. Our group tries to keep the total number in multiples of 4 (obviously). So if you can get me a number of mj's who would be interested, I'll let my fellow ambulance chaser who turned me on to this trip know the number to reserve.

Accomodations are a minimum of two bedrooms. The total number of those going determines whether we stay in condos or one of the houses. So, I'll need a number to determine the type of accomodations. If its a bunch of condos, we can have those put together in the same complex so that we will all be neighbors.

I shouldn't say that this trip is totally removed from gambling. Usually a card game breaks out after we get back from Leftys or the strip joint. You will enjoy playing with my buddies as there card playing ability is similar to Raymonds ability to consistently pick a winner in any sport in which he is betting. In other words, your trip may be paid for at the card table.

It's just a bunch of guys away from the bitc..., gals for a weekend. Definitely not glamourous but very affordable. One of the courses we play is called Stonehenge. I'm sure its got a website. Real pretty country in Tennessee especially in the fall.

Let me know if you want me to handle the reservations for the whole outing or if you want to handle the Madjacks crew on your own. If so, I can put you in touch with the contact guy in Crossville who arranges the accomodations and tee times. Could be a lot of fun and I would like to meet some of you clowns.

Oh yeah, if AR is interested in coming, tell him to bring his own weed. I have a feeling some of us may want to partake (not me of course) and try out some of Scottsdales finest. I'll be glad to handle the reservations but will need deposits from these slugs. Checks will do from everyone except Vyrus. Advance money orders only from Vy and the gang.

All are welcome, except Wayne and Dr. Freeze. Well, okay, there invited too. But not the Irish.

Jack:

No real deadline for deposits. It's just my friend Pete who turned me onto this place called last week and wanted me to start putting numbers together of those that want to come.

Once we get a total number of those interested, we'll call Crossville and make arrangements for condo's or house. At that time I'll need the deposits. I can't recall but its like about 50% which generally turns out to be about a buck and a half (No, 65, not a dollar fifty but rather one hundred and fifty dollars).

First tee times will be early afternoon on friday the 13th. Everyone can plan on meeting at the place where we pick up our keys which is a couple of miles from the courses. If some groups are running late they will still have the address to pick up the key with directions to both the course and the rooms. After we reserve the accomodations and arrange the tee times, I'll let those going know the address our meeting time and where to get the keys.

I might be interested, I have a buddy that lives in Knoxville who is a pretty good player who could probably meet us there.

Jack, would love to play a round or two this year with you near indy

It a good golf spot Edward and May is great time-were you fall and spring a little cool at that elevation.Good courses Druid Hills-Heatherhurst-Dorchester ect ---that is if you were referring to Fairfield Glade Resort.Doubt if I can make it as I will be just getting back from Bama golf outing--but maybe we can get a couple of foursomes at Jacks place when we play this summer.

Tennessee seems a little too far, but if you and Jack are getting together again this year, Indy's a short trip for me. Of course, I haven't golfed in about 3 years and the last time I did, I shot a 110, so I will need some strokes. ;)

I'll even buy a gun rack so that I can blend in.
