In cleaning out my cabinets and restocking shelves due to current events, I found this pack of chicken marinade:

Which has an expiration date of July 3, 2001

Currently marinating in the fridge, going on the smoker in an hour but my wife thinks I'm nuts. Would you use it?

You wife is correct. It is hedgehog type of stupidity to consume a product that expired in 2001.

On the course!
Crystalizes? Can you explain. To me it's just spices. Yes, old spices, but just spices. Don't see how it'll be harmful. Maybe not as tasty but still ok.

Do you know what happens when you let spices age too long?

You get deodorant......

Was it kind of clumpy and moist. Or was it still a fine, dry powder? Didn't smell funky I presume. Maybe you are all right. Sounds like you are past the point of no return. I don't think it will make you sick, you may just not like the taste of that meat in your mouth. Have your wife pick up some extra tacos in case you bail.

Fine, dry powder. Didn't smell funky. As per instructions, mixed with water and oil and it mixed up fine, not clumpy. I'm committed, gonna try it but the wife is making me smoke some with my regular dry rub as well. She said she'll eat that and maybe try the marinaded ones if I don't throw up.
