Below is part of an email from Eric the Saturday before Valentines Day.

My response...
Hi, Eric.
I read all your Facebook entries. I might interpret things wrong, but were you involved in a car accident recently? If it is true, then I am sorry that it happened because you don't deserve that. I was hit by a drunk driver when I was 5 years old. My right femur was broken, and I was in a coma for three days. All is well now. I am pretty healthy, and I hope to keep it that way for my kids sake.
Life is very precious. We are reminded of this when we experience a death in our family or circle of friends. A co-worker that I worked with at this new school passed away last Tuesday. It was a very sad story. His wife was ill. He was forced to retire early, which was April of last year, to stay home and tend to her. She passed away only a few months after his retirement. He came back to sub at our school. Then they discovered a tumor in his brain. It went down so fast from that point. It was only a couple of months. There was nothing doctors can do. He was such a good man. It was just not fair at all. He did not get to enjoy life after retirement from teaching. I am glad Fred is able to enjoy his time with his wife, family, and the horses. I have three more years left after this school year before I can officially retire from teaching. My wish is to stay healthy so I can hang around and watch my two girls grow.
Take care my friend. Thanks for listening. Have a great Valentine!
