FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Adam Wade, who has started at strong-side linebacker for Colorado State for two years, has been suspended from football for at least one game for his part in a Feb. 7 dormitory fight.

Wade, who claimed the fight started after another student made racial remarks, was suspended for Thursday's opening game at Virginia. It was unclear whether Wade would play in the Aug. 31 game against Colorado.

Colorado State's office of judicial affairs ordered the suspension. Wade has been on university probation since the spring. One of the conditions of his probation was completion of at least 40 hours of community service to be completed at the university's office of Black Student Services.

Wade said he had to return home to Moreno Valley, Calif., during the summer because he could not afford to stay in Fort Collins, and could not complete the service.

Rams coach Sonny Lubick said he thought Wade was being treated more harshly than another student would be because he is a football player. He said if Wade completes his community service, he should be able to play against Colorado.

Senior Doug Heald will start Thursday in Wade's place.

Wade faces a hearing Tuesday in Larimer County District Court on misdemeanor charges of third-degree assault and disorderly conduct.

Wade said he had expected to be suspended.

"As Anne Hudgens (CSU's director of judicial affairs) told me, I'm not a regular student. I have to be a role model for the community,'' he said Monday. "What I did was wrong; I should have walked away. But I also wonder how other people would react to a racial slur. If I could take back what happened, I would take it back.''

The only info I've seen on Sapp is that he is in better shape than he was 2 years ago. The Post and the CSU website show nothing about him being injured.

Virginia might be starting young fellas on the DL...but CSU will be starting young boys on the OL as well. So even that out...

Careful....these guys from CSU aren't that young. Not a whole ton of experience but definitely not a wash with the UVA D.

OFFENSIVE LINE

Brothers Morgan (6-8, 309) and Erik Pears (6-8, 310) form the nucleus of the offensive line.

Morgan, a senior, has started 21 straight games for the Rams, while his brother, a sophomore, made three starts a year ago. Erik missed the regular-season game against New Mexico and the New Orleans Bowl with a shoulder sprain.

Another returning starter is junior center Mark Dreyer (6-4, 281), who was selected to the MWC All-Academic team last year.

Senior offensive tackle Aaron Green (6-5, 275) started four games last year, the first of his career, and saw spot emergency duty at tight end.

The starter at strong-side guard is junior Jamie Amicarella (6-5, 290), who red-shirted last year after transferring from Montana State. Backing him up will be red-shirt freshman Albert Bimper (6-2, 300) and junior Kelly Wall (6-4, 300).

Moving over from the defense to the line was junior Kelesio Howard (6-3, 305), who will provide backup at weak-side guard and strong-side tackle.

The Rams signed junior Zeke Hacker (6-3, 280) out of Butler County (Kansas) Community College.
