Well, Ive tried for 11 months now to get into WalMart's Management program with no luck, and decided to just try and get my foot in the door by getting a base level position as an associate or stocker. I landed a interview tomorrow at 3pm, and was just wondering, is a suit, or slacks and a blazer too much for a $7/hr position? Never worked a position like this, and didnt know. Anyone here ever worked for WalMart or SAMS? Any pointers in the interview tomorrow? I am over qualified for the position, i know it, but dont want to sound like it in the interview, but do you think i should still mention my goals of being a store manager some day, and higher goals? Or keep it simple? Any advice? Ive decided not to mention my college degree as well.

Hey, that thing gotta Hemi in it....just kidding.....no, I don't think
overkill will be an issue, FYI hemi, Walmart Supercenters are
going to overtake Cali in the very near future, I assume you
are fresh out of college, opportunity is there, if you have the
desire...GL...BTW, this post will be swamped with Wally World
Haters, but they will silently fall into the cracks when their
grocery bills go down by 40 %....and no I am in no way, shape,
or form associated with Walmart....GL HEMI..:)

One can never be overdressed...But one can DEFINITELY be underdressed. The saying, "First impressions mean everything," is soooooooo true. IMO, the slacks, dress shirt and tie are suffient, but the blazer definitely won't hurt any at all. Best of luck.

Wear the suit. It alway's makes a good impression. And don't smoke, even if you're offered a cigarette,

Let us know how you make out.

dont wear the suit.

They probably won't hire you as a stocker if you really want a management job.

Just go casual and mention you aspire for greater positions.

Suites are nice. But do you have anything form Old Navy laying around. WallMart understands that stuff. I don't think they even sell suites. Most there stuff is just junk.

By the way you were just kidding about that 7 bucks. Here in the mid west they get away with 6.50/7.00 bucks. But in Calf where it cost 7 bucks for a hamburger, or two mile taxie ride.

And here I was thinking from the topic subject you were going to sue Walmart for rejecting you for a job. I thought, "man, those law guys are gonna have a field day with this post!":)

Always wear a suite to a job interview, it is never overkill, it shows you are interested in the job, and also in the interview mention that you are shooting for a manager position, they will know you will be staying once you get the job and they love to hear that, especailly in the retail position.. Heads up here - I used to work in retail and my boss told me I was one of the only ones to wear a suite and he said one of the reasons I got the job was because of that. SO GO with it and GL with the manager position!! That is after 5 years of stocking shelves LMAO! JK!
