downbythe river, you are so right with what you say, but that has been the very nature of english sport for many decades. They play well in flashes or for a few games, the nation gets behind them and start to belief only for them to fall flat on their faces.

Yes I agree England humiliated the Irish at landsdowne road earlier in the year and put to rest about being chokers. However, once you've choked once you can choke again, just ask ernie ells from the world of golf, or even greg norman. Two great players but also prone to choke.

I am as patriotic as anyone and I believed in this team several years ago and that belief has got stronger. Like you though I know that the final score may flatter either side but to go into someones back yard who are one of the proudest nations when it comes to support and take from them what they won four years ago is going to be the hardest game either side has played in, in many a year. Forget what happen in the spring this year when England won in Oz. Australia had several key players out that day and their present side is a good few points better than then.

On the plus side for England, they have not played up to their past form or potential this tournament, but they get the job done. France could have pushed England closer if the early penalties had gone over, but then I would guess that England would have raised their game. It has come to the stage now that I feel England ask their opponents to "bring their game to the table" and "show us what you've got" only for England to reply with "well we've seen it now, and we've got this which is better".

The term "knockers " has been mentioned in this forum. Well unfortunatly that is our British nature. We want to believe, some do believe but all to often we are knocked back down. I say some because that is what it is. Now I bet out in Australia that the talk and the papers are full of talk about the world cup. They praise up their team and rubbish the opposition and this builds up the Australian hype and their people. I believe it's answering to the bugle call. Rally up your country needs you. The Australians nature is not of arrogance but of self believe and their national emblem epitomizes that belief. Both the Emu and the Kangaroo are depicted on their emblem and both these animals only ever go forward when they attack, they never take a step back. Now that describes most Australian sports teams.

Good luck to those in Australia and good luck to us Brits. Lets hope for a good game and that the red rose and lion comes home with the bacon.

England
New Zealand 40 France 13 :D

Looked a bit messy when France got within 1 early in the second half, but the ABs powered away to win easily. A try each for Howlett and Muliana - looks like they ( and Hoss and Anders :p ) may well share top tryscorer honours, barring a hattrick from someone in the final.

20/14 +17.4pts

Incidentally, my view on England is that they have been a ruthlessly effective side, who have focused upon winning the game above all else. It is a massive achievement for them to make this final + the country should be rightly proud of them, however that doesn't mean I have to enjoy watching it! As long as they win + cover I'll be a happy chap regardless :D

I think people are jumping on the bandwagon and over reacting a little here. England are not as hard done by, as people like us to think. It is natural for the Aussies to try and upset the camp, but if England are professional enough, then this will not affect them.

They are the best rugby side in the world at the moment, and until the rugby board get together and change the rules a little, then we will continue to see the brand of rugby played by England during this tournament. I dont like the idea of a drop goal earning just two points below a try. I would like to see a drop goal go to being worth two or just one point. In Rugby League, where the drop goal is only worth a point, you very rarely see teams going for the drop goal, which encourages attacking play. You generally see teams only opting for the point, towards the end of the match where points are crucial.

I really think this is Englands year....I said this before the tournament. They have the players who have played in the big games before, and won and lost them. The team is stronger for the experience, and I dont see them blowing it tomorrow. I would go as far in saying that it could get ugly tomorrow, and England may dominate the game and run up a big score. Cant see how the Aussies are going to score against them, and I am expecting a boring final, dominated by goal kicking.

I wont make a bet, as I already stand on a hefty payout should England win. I will hedge a little in backing Australia for the match, but for anybody who have not bet England yet, I recommend you get on before kickoff.

Good Luck :)

Not playing the final meself either - just praying Rogers, Lewsey or Greenwood doesn't score 2 or 3 tries so I can take a half-split with 45-1 on the Muliaina props ....
and same for Hoss :)

Great effort all tournament guys, most of us here have made some real cash - kudos to us :D

the land of confusion
What an UN-FREAKIN-BELIEVABLE World Cup Final.....

Our Aussie team stuck it out all the way with the Poms just to be snuffed out in the death of extra-time by that man Wilkinson.

Well done England, a deserving victor in one of the greatest games ever.

Many thanx to Hoss, Crooky and the rest of the forum for helping make this tournament a major $$$ earner ( a huge new airconditioner on order for the PAWAQATSI household with the winnings!!..ready for another long hot aussie summer :D )
I'll remember this every time I turn it on!!!

Still proud of our Wallabies in defeat.

Kudos to all....thanx once again and take care everyone

Posting this from the Airport so have to be quick as flight leaves in less than half hour.

Respect to Australia for coming up with a great effort. With so much terrioty advantage and possession but continual handling errors prevented England from crossing the try line on numerous occassions.

How that ref kept giving Australia penalties at the scrum sometimes defied belief. Even the Aussies in the crowd were bewildered but accepted the chance of numerous three points.

A great way to end the game but awful if you lose. Shame there had to be a loser but as in knockout competition, thats the nature of the beast.

Thanks to all those great Aussies that made my short trip enjoyable.

A overdue post to update my final World Cup record, to include the England outright win, and the easy Johnny Wilkinson prop bet.

Thanks to all that made this thread so profitable over the course of the tournament.

As you say "Without having to drag the 'mess' up again in this thread, I find your comments laughable that you have wrote in the legendary 'community pages'.

I challenged you to post your plays in the forums and you posted about six bets, of which five were losers, yet you claim to have posted another months profits."

YOU CLEARLY HAVE A PROBLEM WHERE I POST MY PLAYS. MAY I SUGGEST YOU TAKE IT UP WITH JACK HIMSELF. THE COMMUNITY PAGES ARE THERE FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO POST ALL THEIR PLAYS IN ONE PLACE AND NOT ALL OVER THE VARIOUS FORUMS THAT ARE HERE AT THIS SITE. IF JACK ASKS ME TO POST IN THE FORUM AND NOT THE COMMUNITY PAGES THEN I WILL DO SO. UNTIL THEN, I WILL CONTINUE TO POST WHERE OTHERS HAVE ASKED ME TO. I OFFER UP MY PLAYS TO EVERYONE, NOT JUST FOR YOU.

You don't need to put out challenges.

You clearly didn't visit the community pages daily as you would have noted numerous winning bets. Here are a few for you to mull over. 0'Sullivan to lose 5-4 and to win 5-3 or 5-4. Just for your attention he won 5-4 giving me over 15 points profit on the whole bet. Not bad for three bets in one snooker tounament. Then losses were re-couped from Champions League with 3 winning bets from 4 in last weekends Premier League. Then there was Englands World Cup win at 2.6/1 to go with the semi-final handicap winner on Australia, and Wilkinson top tournament point scorer. all winnings from these covered losses from the other "prop bets", and YES, went towards another 20 points profit for a month.

Just for the record thats now;

13 WINNING MONTHS FROM 14 SINCE I STARTED POSTING HERE AT THE FORUM.

And I will repeat to you want some members have said to me

BRITISH BULLDOG "YOU ARE THE REAL DEAL"

Also by the way, you must check out my American Sports plays that I have started posting. Off another winning night on Tuesday going 5 wins, 2 losses and 1 push. That's about another 20 points of profit I haven't included since the start of November.

And as for those that work for a living as you put up in one of our threads, may I point out that I probably spend twice the time studing sports plays than you actually work, But what the heck, I enjoy it, my rewards are great, infact my earnings last year were probably more than twice your salary. dance1
