I will say the lack of quotation marks make it a bit annoying at times.

So it's the same way as Blood Meridian. That shit hurts my head. And the OVER-use of pronouns. I usually don't know who is saying what until the conversation is over.

don't understand why you read something like this unless you're forced to...

This book got rave reviews from members in a different thread...Jason and I got suckered into it. It has completely stopped my reading progress as I'm bored with it. I've decided to put it back on the shelf.

Jason and Gary, thanks for taking one for the team. I was planning on getting it this weekend.
Maybe I'll just settle for the wikipedia version.

I think I have a stubborn personality; I now want to read Blood Meridian more than ever. :mj07:

But, it is currently checked out of the library near my office. :(

In that case, I will start A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court by Mark Twain.

Exactly. But, by damn, I'm not stopping now!

I am just making sure that I add those posters to my "do not take recommendations" list...

I really have a hard time reading when the material seems to put up a fight. I'd rather move on than lose two months fighting every page.

I'd like for you and GABen to try a couple that I really liked to see if we really are on the same page.

Ham on Rye by Charles Bukowski

Prisoner of X by Allan Macdonell

Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell

Choose one of the first two, and I'lll read it. I have read Gladwell's other books. Although compelling in the way he presents it, I don't think he does much more than present interesting data in a way that fits what he wants it to say.

I may read Outliers, but it is not going in front of other books that I have queued.

Ham on Rye by Charles Bukowski

:00hour

Bukowski is great, gmroz22. have you seen the recent movies made of his life? Factotum with Matt Dillon pretty much sucked, but Bukowski: Born into this is really good, IMO.

Finished The Brothers Karamazov a few nights ago and have been looking for another book. In honor of John Updike's passing today, I am going to read Roger's Version. Have read a lot of Updike, but not this one.

the first book that i'll read starting monday (after football) will be..."deconstructing sammy"....the book is about the entertainer sammy davis jr...who made over 50 million $$ in his life-time only to die penniless...& owing the irs about 7 million $$ (the largest amount ever owed to the irs by a single individual).....i skimmed through the book & was startled to read that as sammy was laying on his death bed dying of cancer, his employees were stealing some of his jewlery & once sammy died, his wife, who became an alcoholic removed his jewelry from him as well as his glass eye...

just finished "decontructing sammy"...& all i can do is shake my head....it is unbelievable how this guy was raped of his money ($50 million) by business associates, friends, & employees.....people he trusted....

tomorrow i start a new book...."baptism by fire"...it's about 8 presidents (lincoln, fdr, ford, jfk, tyler, jefferson, truman, & washington) who took office in times of crisis....

Just finished A MOST WANTED MAN by John LeCarre. Underwhelming compared to some of his other books. Gonna check out Ham On Rye tomorrow.

Still got Hot, Flat and Crowded sitting on the nightstand begging to be finished. It keeps getting pushed further and further back.

I have the book Factotum, but haven't read it (or seen the movie). I own Born Into This. Absolutely awesome! I picked it up before I ever read his books. It's one of those DVDs I throw on when I'm just fiddling around the house and want something familiar as background noise. I haven't gotten into his poetry, but Born Into This (Dinosauria, We) and The Genius of The Crowd are pretty cool from the DVD.

Book #4 Completed:

I Hate Your Guts, by Jim Norton.

Finished Feb 2nd.

Rating: 3 of 5 stars.

Thoughts: This guy is pretty funny when he tells stories about growing up, but the rants about people he hates (Dr. Phil, Al Roker, Al Sharpton, etc.) seem to go on way too long.

After getting tired of Blood Meridian, I needed to read something that would keep my interest...it worked. Book #5 is already in progress, yo.
