what is your favorite genre in fiction, I have been in publishing for 18 years now and know a lot of authors/series to recommend

I've read all of King, Koontz, and Rice and pick up their latest novels as they become available at the library. Very easy reads... I've read the Bourne series, I believe a new one was released in the last couple weeks. I've read the Left Behind series, most of McCarthy, started getting into Carpenter, basically, I'll read anything but when I was younger I really loved the King and Koontz stuff... If a movie is coming out I'll find the book the movie is based off of, that's why I got into McCarthy with The Road... The Shack was the last inspirational fiction I read and it was pretty good...

I'm trying to read more non fiction but there's so much out there...

Fools' Experiment - Edwerner M. Lerner 8/10

Loved this book for what it is, fast paced technology thriller. If you're looking for characterization, don't read it. It focuses on plot movement alone and technicalogical conceptionality. Basic plot, software development meets Dawinsism evolves into self aware and fight or flight... Add in the fact that I started my career as a computer programmer and I was instantly fascinated with the somewhat far fetched ideas that it conjours... Then again, I had a hard line Wildcat BBS 15 years ago... Who would of knew the internet would become so crucial to everyday life?

The Taking - Dean Koontz 4/10
Classic horror novel but not put together well what so ever. Tied up neatly in the end. Wouldn't recommend it.

Seizure - Robin Cook 5/10

Politics collides with biotech firms. Pretty easy read and the two main characters are terrible.

Next - Michael Creichton 7/10
I like this one as it has several sub plots. Eventually they all intertwine and have genome implications whether political, through patenting, or simple lab test errors.

I think I'm done with this sci fi genre for some time...

Anyone read anything good lately?

I'm about 1/2 way through McCullough's "Truman" --a huge book at over 1000 pages. So far, so good--I get in about 50 pages a week if I'm lucky so I'll be back around Thanksgiving to give everyone my thoughts about it....:142smilie
minored in History in college; have read John Adams--loved it--really think McCullough is the best biographer working today. haven't read "1776"--that will be my 2010 book :)

Anybody read "The Cold Six Thousand" by James Ellroy??

I took it down to the beach last week with a couple other books and really cant stand this guy's writing style. I've struggled to stay with the book for 200 pages and really cant see me finishing the last 400. Interesting story, but I cant stand the writing style.

"Yes" by Robert B. Cialdini
4.5 out of 5 stars, really liked.
A must read, draws you in and lets you see the way society thinks in a broader prospective.

"7 habits of highly effective people" by Stephen Covey
4 out of 5 stars, liked this book a lot but thought "Yes" was a little better.

"The long fall" by Walter Mosley
3 out of 5 stars
Good book, but not as good as some of Mosley's other books.

All pretty decent books. 3 finished since June, and that is probably as far as I get for the year, unless I find a must read. I used to read every one of John Grishams books but as of recently I thought he went down hill. Read all of Jim Cramers books and like him but don't think I'll be reading more books on the market until we see a bit of an upswing.

Book #10 Completed:

A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, by Dave Eggers.

Finished July 19th.

Rating: 3 of 5 stars.

Thoughts: This book was highly recommended, won a lot of 'Book of the Year' awards, and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist....but I didn't think it was deserving of all the praise. It was a good read and the guy writes pretty well, but I didn't think it was all that great.

10 books down! :00hour

Book #11 Completed:

Got Fight?, by Forrest Griffin and Erich Krauss.

Finished July 29th.

Rating: 2.5 of 5 stars.

Thoughts: Not exactly what I thought it would be. Forrest can be a funny guy, but a lot of the humor is too trashy (lots of talk of gayness and manliness). Throw out that crap and there is some insider type info on becoming a fighter. I thought the book would be more about his life and career in fighting, but it was more about becoming a fighter and how to fight. Pretty disappointing, but it was only a 180 pager with a lot of pictures, so it was easy to get through.

GET OUT OF MY THREAD HATER!

Actually, I deserve the heat. I didn't crack the book before opening it. Oh well. The book before it was over 400 pages, so I guess it evens out.

:142smilie

My reading has faded so much, I am started to avoid long blog posts. :(
