Curtis.

Curtis.

The one match that started, I am already down three. Ben Curtis bogeyed the first two and Thongchai Jaidee birdied his first hole. :scared
Hopefully the others don't start so poorly.

One and a Half Units : Tiger Woods to Win @ + 222.

One Unit : Fred Couples to Win @ + 1566.

A Quarter Unit : Zach Johnson to Win @ + 2400.

Like what I've seen fron these three this afternoon especially Freddy.
Might bump some more on him @ lower odds when the Round is over.
Should have waited on Tiger as odds just went up substantially (+334) after that bogey.
Zach now bumped up too @ + 3233.

He's a long way from great, that's for sure. I miss the days of the "big four" and the "big four plus one". Who were they again?

Wasn't it Els, Goosen, VJ, and Phil...then one was Tiger. That was about 10 yrs ago.

I can't believe Couples & Watson are on top of the leaderboard.

I'm all for "bringing back the roars" on the back nine on Sunday, but the course was setup too easy today. I like the tourney when there are 8-10 players under par the first day and -3 was leading, and I thought the wind was pretty tough in the early afternoon.

Guys i would recommend going to www.asapsports.com and reading the players thoughts after the round. Allenby seemed pretty confident, so did a few others.

Interesting. No matter what the players, announcers, or analysts say about Augusta, it's just NOT a hard course. It just isn't. I mean hell, look at the scores. There is virtually no rough. You get a good lie in the medium rough, and a great lie further off in the pine straw. Easy bunkers and overlarge greens. So I wish everyone on TV would just stow it with the course difficulty bull.

I disagree. The tee's were up on most of the holes, because the were banking on bad weather. When the greens are hard the course is a beast. Obviously 13 and 15 are fairly easy. In 2007 the winning score was +1. That won by 2 shots as well I think they took a lot of criticism that year and wanted to make the back 9 more exciting, thus easier pins and shorter holes.

Q. What did you expect today?
TIGER WOODS: Oh, I expected to go out there and shoot something under par today. And after looking at all the scores, guys were just tearing this place apart, and looking at the tee setups, the pins were friendly, especially on the par 5s.
And most of the tees were up, except for 4. 4 is the only tee that was back, basically. Most of the tees were up. So you could see if you drove the ball well, you could get it down there where you could be pretty aggressive

Q. Last year at majors, sometimes you were more conservative, on the conservative side; today it seemed like you were very aggressive. Is that just a by-product of easier pins and conditions, or do you feel in any way different?
TIGER WOODS: No, the pins were easier. They are probably one step easier than they normally are. Look at the first hole, it's right in the center of the green. You don't see that ever.
I was surprised at how many -- I was surprised at how many birdies were made until I saw the pin sheet. You see a lot of guys 1-under through one; I was kind of curious about that. You see the pin sheet, and it's, okay, now, you understand. But that's kind of how it was most of the day. They were either one or two steps easier than they normally are. I don't know if they did that intentionally to lower scores or they may move them back afterwards, I don't know, but we'll see the next three days

I say again. Augusta Nat'l is just not a hard course. It is not difficult for the course manager to trick up a layout. Every hole can be the volcano hole if the cup is located just so, on every green. Let me cut the cups in and I guarantee you Tiger couldn't break 90. All tricks aside, given the fair treatment, Augusta is no Bethpage, or even Pebble. Length alone does not make a course hard.

Laughable that you think you could set pins where Tiger wouldn't break 90. :142smilie

Round 2 play (4pts):

Sergio Garcia to beat Fred Couples +123 @ Pinnacle [available widely]
Couples has led The Masters after the 1st round previously and went on to stay leader for three rounds before finishing 2nd, but that was back in 1998. The last time that he led a PGA Tour event after the 1st round was at the 2008 Arnold Palmer Invitational and he then shot 73-77 to fall to 20th and then 67th in two days. So, even though he has been great on the Champions Tour and he did make the cut at the Houston Open last week, this is a huge task for him to continue in the same form as yesterday. I've no great confidence in Garcia, but he hasn't become such a poor player over the last couple of years to warrant such odds against a player competing under such pressure and public interest.

[unofficial rd2 system plays: Lyle tb Martin -130; Mickelson tb Yang -188; Barnes tb Duval -133; Ikeda tb Manassero -125]
