Well........if you were going to spend some time in Alaska, where in Alaska would you go? And for the record.....I have zero interest in going on an Alaskan Cruise.

have yet to take any type of cruise and if I have my way I never will..
We flew into anchorage and spent a week in a cabin on the Kenai river. Saw so many bears that week that by the end of our time there, they didn’t even register with us. Visited a glacier and hiked on it; the town of Homer is very cool if you’re the free spirited, hippie type. Town is full of artists and many of the locals houses are used as canvases.
2nd trip we went to Denali and stayed in the park. Wildlife all over the place including numerous moose.
if you’re not an outdoors person, then I wouldn’t recommend a trip to Alaska.
Just got back from Maui a couple of weeks ago. Snorkeling with the turtles was a highlight. Golf is fantastic, too, if you play.
took a helicopter ride and saw Maui and Molokai from
the air which was cool.
Haleakala volcano is a must if you find yourself on Maui. Otherworldly landscapes and at 10,000 feet of elevation, a nice break of the relentless heat of being at sea level .

I have also been to Alaska and Hawaii.....
In Alaska I would recommend the area around Alyeska Ski resort which is a short drive from Anchorage along Hwy 1. The Summer was beautiful with salmon filled streams everywhere if you are into fishing. The ski resort is dated a tad but everything is in Alaska. I would visit only if you like outdoors stuff or snow skiing. Alaska is very depressing to me outside of the nature aspect. We did helicopter tour to glaciers where we rode sleds pulled by dogs...this was amazing. We also did a boat tour to see glaciers up close and such which was also amazing. There is some cool stuff to do....but once is enough for me.

Hawaii was more my speed if you ever want recommendations for that. We have been to Maui and Kauai which were both fabulous.

Did you take the Kenai fjords boat tour to see the glaciers up close? That’s the trip we took. Saw a huge slab of ice come off a glacier, which was cool to see— the blast of cold air that rushed by the boat as it slid into the ocean was :scared

Nice write up redsfann, some rock solid info right there. "Hiking on a glacier", now that would be friggen awesome:00hour

I agree with what you said about the outdoors. I have been to the Yukon, British Columbia and the Northwest Territories, if you don't like the outdoors, don't go there. As for the bears, I have seen many up close, as long as they aren't Polar Bears you are fine. Of course we humans have destroyed their habitat so sadly pretty soon Polar Bears won't even exist, so yep, rare to come across a Polar Bear nowadays. :sadwave:

We did take that tour...quite impressive. Hope you enjoyed Maui...we were in Kauai in March which is quite different than Maui. In Maui we did that heli tour as well. Snorkling at Molokini (sp) was something special as we lucked out on weather and huge influx of wildlife. Kapalua Golf is supreme!

Good times....also agree...if you are not into outdoors, run from Alaska.

Had a great time on Maui. Shocking to see all the brown at sea level. All the islands are experiencing a drought, but Maui is in an extreme one, unfortunately.
That’s cool you also took that Kenai Fjords tour in Alaska. Did you get a margarita made from the glacial ice on the trip back to anchorage? Very tasty… and strong :toast:
