Guess I have missed something. What exactly did he get us to talking about that has not been talked about ad nauseam the past few years? The only thing new he brought to the table was an open disrespect for the American flag and his ignorance on what it stands for. Good for him if he wants to stand by these feelings and take whats coming to him as that will indeed take fortitude, but he brought zero new to the table and only furthered the "out of touch" label most of these oppressed millionaires have.

My guess is he is currently watching "Thriller" and practicing his moonwalk in the mirror. Guess we will see how well he does it in the next few days.

He got us talking about him and his actions. At least one person in this thread asked and was answered about what his "cause" was. We aren't the only people in the nation that had this conversation.

What I found a bit funny about this is how many will curse the guy and say what a scumbag he is for "disrespecting" our country's standard by not standing up, and two minutes later go on facebook or Instagram or whatever, and call the President a piece of shit.

Go ahead and pound the old screaming eagle tattoo on your chest if you want to, most probably haven't seen theirs since 9/11 anyway.

I don't really care what he thinks. Kind of stupid on his part. It is not like he is throwing light on this subject.

He has a right not to stand. I have a right not to like him.

Chip Kelly should require each player to hold their helmet in their left arm and hand over heart for the National Anthem like the Rams are required to do. :0074

I didn't know he had converted to Islam. IMO that makes things more interesting. Mahmoud Abdul Rauf(formerly known as Chris Jackson) did the same thing when he was with the Nuggets and has always said he was black balled out of the NBA for it.

I also find it very interesting that two prominent male figures would take a stand like this when they were raised by 1 or 2 white parents. Jesse Williams, the actor, that made the speech a few months ago has a white mom. It makes you wonder if there is some sort of inner struggle with these young men.

Beating a dead horse here, but the flag actually represents his right not to stand.

He did it because he's insignificant now and needed the media bump. It was low-lying fruit and he readily grabbed it. Marine hit the nail on the head.

Disagree
I have been at over 300 pro and college football-baseball games. Went to a game tonight. I look around the stadiums and see everyone standing showing respect for the flag and the anthem. I rarely if ever have seen anyone not showing respect as they should. Colin Kaepernick converted to Islamin the last year and reportedly has got engaged to a woman, a radio broadcaster who is an official spokesperson for Black Lives Matter. Send him packing.

Hell, go drive onto the nearest military base and hang out until around 6pm when colors plays and everyone on base has to stop, snap to attention and salute... wherever they are.
You will see motherfuckers that just got done with a 20 mile hike in full gear and passed out on the ground dying because they are too tired to stand. As soon as that first note of music starts to play, those dudes are up like little green lightning bolts and running for cover to try and get inside so they don't have to stand there for Colors.

and yes, I have been to plenty of games where when the song starts, the trainers are still taping ankles, and dudes are still looking for their shoulder pads.

It's such a non-issue. It's not effecting the guy next to him who might be deeply into the national anthem. Now if he was vocally protesting during, that would be another thing.

The fact that he has to "announce it" in press release style is kinda cringe worthy.

Frankly I kinda wish they would dial back on the God Bless America and Star Spangled Banner at sporting events to begin with. It's not like they play them before you watch a movie, or see a play or before church. I don't really get why sporting events are so unique in that regard. It sort of seems like pandering. If I ruled the world I would probably limit it to special events or something.

Based on Dead Money's helpful article they started playing it during the World Wars. Were Americans not patriotic before that? I don't really see a direct connection between the anthem at sporting and true patriotism.

Funnily enough, at the movie theatres on military bases they actually do play the national anthem before the movie starts and you stand your ass up. Always been one of those things that I scratch my head and wonder why.

I am an extremely liberal person.
Here are my thoughts on the Kapernik debate.
He is ignorant. He has every right to do what he did, I support that right unequivocally.
He says he is not disrespecting the military members when he sits. He is wrong.
That flag that he is disrespecting has not metaphorically been died for, its has literally been died for.
In the civil war (the one that freed the slaves) the flag was what kept the troops fighting and moving forward, the flagbearer was the point man, death was certain for him and when he went down someone else picked up the flag and moved it forward until he was struck down. And so on. Blood was spilled on the flag, if those brave men didn't do that the battle could be lost.
Check your history Colin, see how many Medal of Honor recipients died carrying that flag so you could say and do what you wanted.
You want to protest Police treament of people of color, wear a BLM headband, talk about police corruption and encourage better police training, support community outreach programs but don't direspect OUR flag or the soldiers that died carrying it.
Or this non-violent proud American might just smack ya across the face.

You would think Kaepernick would absolutely love the National Anthem, it's the only 90 seconds of the game he isn't at risk for throwing a pick-6.

The bigger issue here I suspect is that he knows he sucks and is likely going to get cut anyway so if he does something controversial he can point to that as the reason he got cut instead of owning the fact he isn't good enough to play the position.

That is funny. :toast:
It's just good 'business sense' to ferment patriotism and that kinda of loyalty in the military.

Yep....can't have you thinking......

I was Navy, trained with Marines before deployment to Vietnam late 1969 at Pendleton.
Movie night you could drop a pin in the auditorium during the anthem playing.

Those crazy Marines were up at 4am, group lifting telephone poles for exercise. We Navy guys slept in unheated temporary large tents,I slept in my uniform to stay warm, it gets cold up there.

I was stationed briefly in Pearl Harbor....every sundown they would lower the standard and have a live playing of taps....it never failed to bring me a silent moment of reflection, and sometimes a tear or 2...

Ya know what, on further reflection, FUCK Krapperdink...he's an attention grabbing mongrel . If you believe that horse-shit your spouting, quit football, donate your nest-egg, grab a black bandanna, and march with BLM.....
I could respect that :director:
