He suggested we use black history month as an opportunity to talk race relations with african americans.

When is white history month? When is asian history month? How about latino history month.

You can't have double standards and expect equality. What a joke!

Well maybe if the racist card wasn?t played every other day there would be more open dialogue. A black leader points out what is wrong with white America and he is applauded, Bill Cosby makes some valid points about black America and he is ostracized. My point is, if you want to talk fine, but leave your thin, PC skin at home. Things are still not equal everyone should be able to see that, but sometimes people get in the way of their own success and that is something they don?t want to hear. Do you want to be an American or African American? I personally am an American and proud of it and do not need to be called a European American. On the flip side white America needs to learn to be more empathetic towards black America. For over 200 years most of white America was born with there foot on first base if not second compared to black America. While overt racism has increasingly faded (kkk, jim crow, segregation) it was replaced with a more covert, less easily seen form. This form is decreasing as well, but will still take time. The bottom line is that America is not perfect, but the word equality means more today than it ever has. Progress in terms of civil rights and racial equality is measured in generations and not in years. In a country of instant gratification, that is something many people can?t accept.

I like his quote--

"Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial, we have always been, and we, I believe, continue to be, in two many ways, a nation of cowards. Though race related issues continue to occupy a significant portion of our political discussion, and though there remain many unresolved racial issue in this nation, we, average Americans, simply do not talk enough with each other about things racial. "

--he should have said if you do it selectively--you won't get tagged being racist.

ie--fine to rant on prison population being over 50% black and only 13% of population-as Holder does--but don't dare bring up reason might be blacks committ 52% of crimes--

-fine to bring up poverty in black communities but forget 70% illegitamacy rates might be part of prob.

--hate to tell Holder the obvious--but if one in media wants to keep his job--it is topic better left alone--and if don't want to be tagged racist by some--better not be quoting any facts (stats) on subject that would reflect any negative slant. :)

Really, huh?

You seem to be pretty selective regarding who you correct.

There's a difference between the occasional typo an the inability to spell 4 letter words. It's hard to read djv's bitching and moaning when every other word is spelled incorrectly.

Hope this helps-

good timing for this thread considering the brouhaha created by the new york post`s cover utilizing the recent chimp rampage and shooting with the stimulus package...

you can`t use a chimp to depict any aspect of the stimulus or anything remotely attched to this administration or democratic congress....

but you can hurl any chimp insult or use any cartoon or picture to skewer george bush....

now,we have al sharpton marching in the streets and holding press conferences in outrage over the picture...a cartoon...

very reminiscent of the way the islamists reacted to cartoons of mohammed...

http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local...new_york_post_chimpanzee_stimulus_cartoo.html

ridiculous...

it`s the sharptons..and the holders....that can`t let go of it...they bludgeon people over the head with the race issue to further their own personal agendas....

hey holder...just do your f-cking job and try not to f-ck up to badly this time........

Matt, what is the point of your comment?. I assume that Saint instead of bashing djv's idiotic statement, simply mentioned his horrific spelling (impossible to comprehend most of the time) as a way of venting frustration.

Pented up anger against the apologists and numb-brained nit-wits of the left (and center :mj07: ) is what is really the story here. People who are usually calm and collected are getting very pissed with the overall situation.

So I don't understand your criticism of a comment on someone's inability to communicate a rational thought in writing. i assume djv is also incapable of making his point through speech.

Anyhow, keep policing the posts and be fair to all. All ideas are equal and have equivalent validity. Civility is all that matters kurby

Oh, it's just that there are plenty of borderline illiterates on here. I just wondered why he popped in out of nowhere to criticize that particular poster.

Thanks for your inquiry.

'people are getting pissed off at the overall situation'

Is that supposed to be some sort of joke?

Jesus, some people have a remarkable ability to ignore how this country has devolved over the past 8 years and NOW are just starting to get pissed 1 month into the new administration. Come on, man.

750 Billion 'stimulus' pushed through in about 5 minutes under Bush? Crickets. That was for the good of the country.

750 Billion 'stimulus' pushed through in about 5 minutes under Barry? Outrage!

I think both are/were ridiculous plans, but i'd like to think i'm pretty consistent. To expect that of others is often a fruitless enterprise.

As for the cartoon, None of them usually bother me, including this one. However, you have to expect, which the creator and newspaper probably did, the linking of a monkey and the current President to be done by many and to be called out as being racist. I certainly think it's possible that the intent was there in the first place, and I don't think it would be appropriate if it was.

Sharpton remains an opportunistic waste of space.

One thing he said was a bit more thought provoking than the cowards comment:

He said something to the effect of "On weekends this country is very much still segregated"

We have come a long way in school and work and day to day society, but on weekends, we go to seperate churches and don't intermingle.

THAT is worth discussing as a country. It doesn't HAVE to be about politics; it can just be about ethnic relations. The more we talk about our differences and intermingle with people who are different than us, the better of we are. Never a bad idea to remind people of that.

I think that is at the heart of what he was saying, though he definitely didn't phrase all of his comments in the best way.
