It looks like Washington State is going to play at Auburn on Sept. 2, 2006. Auburn will not play a return game in Washington.

I like the game. The Cougs should be pretty good in 2006, maybe a Top Twenty team.

gjn,

what is the benefit of going to play in a 37,000 seat stadium? they have absolutely no reason to travel to play wsu. they can stay at home and play in front of 87,000 and get the money that is generated from a home game.

Of course Auburn wouldn't travel to WSU. But if AU beats WSU at home the SEC folks will pound their chests! Props to WSU for traveling to Auburn. Oregon St. travelled to LSU last year. I wonder if and when LSU will play @OSU. We all saw how LSU challenged OSU. :)

Something interesting of note from last season regarding the SEC, its schedule and its rankings...did you know that the SEC won only one OOC road game last year (Florida vs. Florida State)? USC alone won more road OOC games then the whole SEC!!! :mj07:

That is a reason SEC fans should not pound their chest how tough their conference is. They are never challenged in OOC play. How do you judge how tough a conf. is when they basically only play each other? GET IT! Much easier to win games @HOME vs road.

Absolutely wrong, unless WSU can guarantee a payoff that would be equal to what Auburn would make from playing a home game in front of a sellout crowd then it makes no sense for Auburn to travel. The revenue generated from the home games that Auburn plays feeds the smaller sports programs that are not revenue producing and I would bet that Washington State is getting a payout that is far above what they would make for a home game. I would also believe that the payday that Oreg State got for traveling to LSU was their largest payday of the year with the exception of the bowl game that they played in last year. Simple math would tell you that teams with very small stadiums like Oreg St and WSU cannot generate the payoffs that are needed to attract big name opponents to their stadiums, would you expect Auburn or LSU to go on the road and play UCONN or San Diego St? I doubt it, but UCONN draws more fans per week then Oreg St and San Diego St outdraws WSU. The only team that you could really have a good argument for is USC since they draw well enough to generate revenue and not too long ago UCLA and Washington drew well enough to generate the income needed to bring in big name opponents and throughout the years both of these schools have had big name teams play home-home with them such as Ohio State, Okl, Neb etc..because of the ability to generate revenues. All leagues have teams that cannot bring in big name teams for OOC play because they lack the facilities to generate revenue such as Vandy, Duke, Indiana, Baylor, Rutgers, so its just not a bias against Pac 10 teams but in reality all about producing income for the non-revenue producing sports.

by your rationale ohio st....michigan....etc....should never travel as well because they draw so well at home and use that revenue for other sports

try traveling to pullman, eugene, corvallis on a regular basis....while playing on the road, on turf, in the rain, in front of 40k screaming fans who are right on tip of you......then tell me how easy the pac-10 is

Sure money makes a difference....but that's the excuse for every team in the same conference, EVERY year????? come on.....

Who does Michigan play on the road OOC? No one. Good point.

Nothing the SEC does will ever please Scott4USC or gjn23, and I think I speak for everyone else on this site when I say "we get it." "OK, we get it." You guys do not understand the money situation that is the major factor in big-time SEC scheduling, and you use your own misunderstanding of that fact to try and discredit the most dominant conference the world has ever known.

Let me break it down for the fifty-millionth time:

Auburn travels to WSU = $500,000 MAXIMUM payoff
WSU travels to AU = $5 million at least in total concessions and gate.

The SEC proves itself year-in and year-out in bowl games and National Championships. We schedule home games whenever possible because we fill our stadiums with the most loyal and passionate fans in the world...not because we are scared of teams like Fresno St, Boise St., Bowling Green, Toledo, etc, etc...

P.S. You guys really don't have to hijack every thread in this forum to bash the SEC. We are all well aware of your position.

Where was USC remotely even referenced in this thread until you did it?

gjn do you have anything to contribute other than never ending SEC penis-envy? If not could you at least use your own threads rather than hijacking every thread in sight?

Who cares why the SEC schedules home games. They need the money. It makes sense financially. I don't care. The fact remains SEC teams do not travel and schedule $hit ooc competition. Nothing changes that fact. You all want to give the SEC a free pass? GIVE ME A BREAK! That is a reason to argue AGAINST the SEC. Not to praise the SEC or falsely claim it is the most dominant conference. How in the world can you say the SEC is the most dominant conf. when you have NOTHING to judge it on? ANSWER THAT ONE! :mj07: Playing quality OOC competition is the only way to judge a conf. YOU DON'T JUDGE A CONF. THROUGH CONF. PLAY! You can't judge a conf. well if they play $hit OOC or play quality OOC opponents only at home. How do you judge that? How do you come to the conclusion the SEC is the most dominant conf.? The only thing you can judge is SEC teams playing against other SEC teams. Thats it.

BTW, I believe the SEC conf. has a 500 record against all BCS schools in the last 10 years. Not so dominant? But they sure look great in conf. play!

I love debating this SEC conf. stuff. NOBODY who supports the SEC can come up with an argument. It is hilarious. :lol2 But they sure as hell LOVE to beat their chest saying they are the best conf. in college football. Give me a break.

this thread started with the posting of a future schedule of an sec team playing a bcs team at home....and not playing on the road....it went from there.

i'd love to see the sec play some meaningful road games and actually travel further than 1 hour for a game.....twice a year.

Gin23, did you know that it has been something like 30+ years since UGA left the state of Georgia to play an OOC opponent? Yes I said 30!

Again, dickhead, you can use one year or a confined time frame statistic to try and prove your point, but if you look at the big picture the SEC is the best. The sad part is you know the SEC is the best conference, and you are obviously a hater and try to piss off people who you obviously have an inferiority complex with.

Since you know everything and have all the answers, why don't you post your picks??? Is it just more fun to sit on the sidelines and criticize everything and try to provoke arguments?

It started with an informative post by Coug lJ, and then ONCE AGAIN, you hijacked it by taking a shot at the SEC.

I'd love to see another good team in the Pac-10 besides USC, but it looks like neither of us will get our wish.

I would also love to read 1 or 2 threads here at Madjack's without having to scroll through you and Scott bashing the SEC in EVERY THREAD. It would be a dream come true.

This has nothing to do with the Pac 10 it's just the reality of how income driven college football has become! WSU does not generate enough revenue per game to pay out a good amount of money for visiting teams in the past 10 years the biggest school to play at Pullman was Illinois and Boise State, yes Colorado played at WSU but the game was moved to Seattle to generate more income. To criticize Auburn is not right since Notre Dame also did not play WSU at Pullman after playing them at South Bend so did Nebraska. The same goes for Oreg St, as in the past 10 years the biggest OOC opponet to travel to Corvalis was Fresno State on a two for one home and away contract. Thats why the vast majority of home games for Oreg State and WSU are against MWC teams or small western teams like Eastern Wash because the revenue generated is suffucent for those schools and usually a better payday then what they would get at home. To try and make this a anti Pac 10 post in just in error, this is not only a problem for Pac 10 teams that either do not draw well or have small stadiums but a national problem. Bottom line is that teams that average 80k a game at home would be making a foolish and costly business decision to travel to a venue that draws 35k.

How intelligent of you to call me a dickhead. Thanks!

I think in all the years of CFB the SEC is prob. #1. I even think this year SEC might be the best conf. in CFB. A superior conf.? HELL NO! Most dominant? HELL NO! Why? There is no evidence to support that claim!

I have said it before. I am a big fan of the SEC. I watch a lot of their games. I don't watch many OOC SEC games because it is waste of time but conf. play is fun to watch. So I am a fan but I am a fan of all BCS conf. I admit I do not really give non BCS conf. a fair chance. But there is only so much CFB you can watch.

If you don't enjoy debating CFB, then don't participate! If you want to debate with me, I encourage it. I will treat you with respect but I assure you I will attack what you post. I will not attack you on a personal level. I know SEC fans are very passionate about football and their conf. So the facts thrown at your face can be hard to digest. I will try and be more understanding of this and not come off so strong with my arguments.

Since you know everything and have all the answers, why don't you post your picks??? Is it just more fun to sit on the sidelines and criticize everything and try to provoke arguments?

I did and I do post picks. I have never posted my picks on an everyday basis but I assure you I have a winning % over 80% on posted big plays. All my plays I posted analysis why I felt so strong. This year I think I will be posting my picks on an everyday basis. Fade em, play em, or ignore them. I wish you the best with your picks this year!

I never said I know everything or know all the answers. But thanks for the compliment because if I come off that way then my arguments are pretty powerful. Why are you making this so personal?

This was an absurd statement unless your benchmark is winning National Championships.

maybe fans of teams from around the country can help me out with this.........

what is the face value of your team's tickets?

I can't remember exactly, but I think ours last year were 35 for the crappy OOC, 40 for most SEC teams and 45 for the rivalry games (Bama, UGA)

Just interested in what the prices are for schools at other major conferences

USC charges $25 for their spring huddle game (w/2 free burgers), $50+ for rival games, and around $35 for all other games. $20-$25 for parking. USC averages around 85k.

Oh yeah, no more beer at the games. Last year was the final year. :cursin:
