I think his point is that these guys aren't just savaged beast bums that they find in the middle of nowhere.
The fact that they are either educated or savage has no effect on the actions they perform in the cage
It was just a strawman argument.
That guy protesting didn't have a clue what he was talking about either. You should NEVER criticize something you don't believe or agree with if you are knowledgeable of the sport.
The guy did seem a little clueless, which is why Dana was able to twist it the way he did. (there was obvious editing as well)
But on the other hand you don't have to be an expert in muay thai, bjj ect... you just need to see one event (or even a promo for an event) to see that it's violent. Violence is violence, whether it is performed in a controlled fashion or not.
Did you hear his response to the nfl? "The point is to move the ball, not hurt people" Football is by far more violent then MMA. 270 pound DE/LBs laying out 180-200lb wr/rbs?
But the point of football
is to move the ball up and down the field. Whatever violence that may occur is just a by product.
The sole purpose of MMA is violence.
Fighters are chastised by the fans and the organization for not being violent enough. Fighters are awarded monetary prizes for committing extreme acts of violence against another human.
Just scroll up the comments and you'll see "blood soaked war of attrition". Now, don't get me wrong I'm not criticizing anyone here (I love this shit too). I'm just not trying to say it isn't violent.
Dana was unable to to give a purpose for the sport other than violence. When questioned he said "to see who is the best". Well, the "best" are those who are able to hurt another human being in the most efficient manner.
"Well, there is a points system"...in which one of the criteria is if you made your opponent bleed
BTW, In football they do everything they can to prevent any type of injury whatsoever. If someone were to ktfo a QB they would be more likely to receive a fine than a bonus.
