jfk was only president for 3 years & that's not enough time to make any kind of dent in american hisotry.

this is the statement i was responding to. you changed the subject. i have no idea if jfk is one of the best or not. all i know is there was a significant historical dent during his time.

To quote the originator of the thread: "Define "best" as you see fit."

I don't know that duration should be the overall determinant of best, necessarily. As I said, until I look at it more, I'm not picking, but I also think that Kennedy is a pretty accepted "good" president.

it's very tough to pinpoint who was the best president....for those who find this subject interesting should catch the hostory channel's series of shows titled "the presidents".....very interesting...

my list of presidents (in no particular order) who met the challenges they faced...

washington
jefferson
lincoln
fdr
truman
t. roosevelt

chad...

Ronald Reagan never met "ANY" challenges that "WE" faced as a country or world ????? . That's hard to believe. That's funny. I was around at that time, maybe I missed something, I guess I'll go back to the history books and check again. What is your major malfunction ??? You gotta be kidding me !!!

Al' s list is pretty accurate in my book, although I would include JFK , I don't hold it against him some idiot killed him before his time. I think he would have accomplished some great things. Maybe would have totally avoided Vietnam, he also accomplished lot regarding civil rights.

listen bryanz....i answered the question that samayam posed in the title of this thread. it's just my opinion...it doesn't mean that i'm right...it doesn't mean that i'm wrong...it's just an opinion.

i think reagan ranks up there but i put the ones that i listed above him...no big deal.

kosar....i don't think the russians were involved in the bay of pigs(that was a fiasco)...are you thinking of the cuban missle crisiis (that was good moment in jfk's presidency).

Definitely.

But the 'Bay of Pigs' was not among his greatest moments. In fact, it was a disgrace. >>>>>>>>>(smurphy)

my list of jfk stuff was "dents" in response to ar saying that he wasnt prez long enough to have a significant impact. i was not listing as all being positivie. i just know they were big deals. ....hell, i listed the footage of his assassination. just seems that in 3 years, he was involved in a lot of things that will be remembered forever.

Clinton's the best one I can fairly evaluate. Way better than war-mongering Dubya and his dad.

You don't have to be around when a president is in office to judge what they've done. I would even argue it helps to NOT to have been around. I don't think it's possible to truly evaluate a president in the grand scheme of things until at least 25 years after his presidency ends.

3) supported terrorism, exactly what we are against now, called them freedom fighters

4) caused biggest banking crisis ever in country history, cost country 150 billion

5) caused USA 2 go from biggest creditor in world to biggest debtor, 3 trillion

Of course the USSR wasn't involved with the Bay of Pigs.

And of course the Cuban Missile Crisis was a stand-off that Kennedy won. Please read my prior post again.
