Think the bookies have got this just about spot on and I'd have it exactly the same as they have with the leading 4. Maybe a bit of value about Campbell at 22/1 though, cant make my mind up.

Couple of early plays:

Allenby at 50/1 - as well documented on here, played better than the MC suggests last week. hopefully spent the weekend working on his putting.

Matteson at 50/1 - seems to pay to side with Troy when in form so will take a chance on him after good seasonal debut. 24th here on only previous attempt so will come in with reasonably positive thoughts.

Troy plays well on the west coast usually.. i like the play. A little disappointed Nick Watney isn't giving this event a go. I have a hard time backing someone who burnt me the previous week.. but Allenby is capable of finishing in the top 10 any week, winning an event for him is a whole different story

New week, new winner. After breaking everything down, I capped up four guys that fit my profiles. Based on last year's performance, this years out of the gate start, and value, and other factors, Rollins, Slocum, McNeil, and Taylor, fit in nicely. My pick for the Bob Hope is---

George McNeil to win 80-1 SIA 1 unit.

Beem, Boo, and Pettersson are my fade guys this week. Looking to bet against these three.

I'm not a big fan of the 5 round format, cut after 4. I do like the Wed. start though. All tourneys should start on Wed. and finish on Sat.

If i am not mistaken there is a new course on the rotation this year, which makes it even more difficult to cap

Benbrook
Date: January 16-20, 2008
Location: Classic Club, Bermuda Dunes, La Quinta, PGA WEST (Palm Springs, CA)
2006 Champion: Charley Hoffman
FedEx Cup points: 25,000 (4,500 to winner)
2008 Purse: $5.1 million ($900,000 to winner)

2007 Recap
In conditions he would later describe as "the hardest I've played in, for sure," Charley Hoffman birdied the 17th hole, followed it with an eagle on No. 18 to force a playoff with John Rollins, then canned a four-footer for birdie at 18 on the first hole of sudden death to earn his first career PGA Tour title. Winds that gusted up to 40 miles per hour at the Classic Club created havoc on day five (the final-round scoring average was 74.76 and the gusts caused Phil Mickelson to fire a 78 after dunking three balls in the water on a three-hole stretch), but Hoffman prevailed thanks primarily to his work on the short grass, where he led the tournament by averaging just 26.6 putts per round.

2006 Recap
A week after a disappointing finish at the Sony Open, Chad Campbell made amends with his first victory since 2004. He started out hot with a nine-under 63 on day one, then closed with a 71 on Sunday to earn a three-shot victory over Jesper Parnevik and Scott Verplank. It was the sixth time Campbell had entered the final round of a tournament with at least a portion of the lead, and just the second time he emerged victorious on Sunday.

The Course
The Hope is the only remaining 90-hole event on Tour (yes, it starts on Wednesday), and it found a new home in 2006 with the successful debut of the Classic Club. The Arnold Palmer Private Curse at PGA West ? for years considered the "host" course and the course all players played on Sunday ? remains in the rotation, but the Classic Club at Northstar, another Palmer design, took its place as the host for the tournament's final round. Unlike PGA West, Bermuda Dunes, and La Quinta C.C. (the other three courses), the Classic Club was designed to provide a stiffer test that tournament organizers hoped would keep scores from reaching 30-under, as they regularly had in the past. Judging by the past two years, said mission has been accomplished. Campbell had to scramble for a 71 during his victorious final-round in 2006, and Hoffman's 17-under total was the tournament's highest winning score in nearly 20 years. The Classic, a 7,305-yard par 72 layout that features 30 acres of water, is situated so that prevailing winds in the area have a (sometimes dramatic) effect on the proceedings. Still, while the Classic Club should keep Sunday scores in check again, birdies in the first four rounds remain as common a sight as "celebrities" like George Lopez, Carson Daly, or Joe Pesci hacking out of the rough during the Pro-Am portion of the event (Wednesday ? Saturday).

The Field
It wouldn't do fantasy golfers much good to play their top draft pick when he doesn't plan on teeing it up, which is why fantasy owners have to be very cognizant of who is playing each week. As a courtesy, we've provided a link to the official field as provided by PGATOUR.com:

Bob Hope Chrysler Classic Official Field

As a reminder, it is not an infrequent occurence for players to back out during the days leading up to a given tournament, so fantasy owners should make sure they re-check the above link on Wednesday evening for the most updated field list before finalizing their fantasy lineups.

saw that Kenny was +5 thru 6 holes on friday then made four birdies an no bogeys the rest of the way. I know thats not too astounding but there should be some positives heading to the Hope where he is a past winner. He admitted he was rusty heading into last week, hopefully its all gone now.

what do you mean by "boxscore"?

Hey guys....I'm in a fantasy golf league at work and need some advice on who to pick for this tourney. I don't know much about golf at all, but wanted to play for the fun of it. If you guys can give me a rundown of some decent players for this tourney that would be great. It's the Yahoo fantasy league where you have the A, B , and C groups.....I need a total of 8 players I believe. Thanks!

THE INSIDE TRACK

By Harry Emanuel

Click here for Dave Tindall's in-depth betting preview

The 49th Bob Hope Chrysler Classic has a very different feel to it this year. It is still a Pro-am event played on four different golf courses over five days but the style of the golf courses is changing beyond recognition.

In the past it was a very relaxed event, with the focus as much on the celebrity golfers as on the professionals. Players knew they had to go low on the short old style courses and winning scores of 30-under par or more were not uncommon.

In 2006 a new host course, The Classic Club, was added to the rota. It is a modern style resort course that plays long off the championship tees at 7,305 yards.

On Sunday last year when the wind blew strongly the course played an average of 2.76 shots over par. When you bare in mind that Carnoustie only played 2.38 shots over par for the week at the 2007 Open you can see a lot of the fun has been taken out of the tournament.

This year the SilverRock Resort has replaced Bermuda Dunes. Bermuda Dunes was ranked the third easiest course on the PGA Tour in 2007. SilverRock on the other hand is an entirely different kettle of fish.

The SilverRock Resort is similar to the Classic Club with water features, impressive looking bunkers and little rough.

It plays long at 7,360 yards. Even though it is built along the edge of the hills, like PGA West (Palmer Course), it is not protected by the hills. It is more exposed to the wind than even the Classic Club which sits in a slight bowl in the valley.

In relatively strong winds in practice on Monday the players struggled. Tournament Host George Lopez feels the professionals "won't shoot better than five under par." He may well be right as only two of the par fives (2 and 18) are realistically reachable in two strokes.
A very disgruntled Tim Herron believes that in the wind, level par would be a good score.
