saw that Kenny was +5 thru 6 holes on friday then made four birdies an no bogeys the rest of the way. I know thats not too astounding but there should be some positives heading to the Hope where he is a past winner. He admitted he was rusty heading into last week, hopefully its all gone now.

what do you mean by "boxscore"?

Thats fair. Just on the coverage they said he was really rusty hitting a lot of hooks. His ball striking stats were abysmal. 39% fairways 55% girs, but this is obviously a different type of golf course.

THE INSIDE TRACK

By Harry Emanuel

Click here for Dave Tindall's in-depth betting preview

The 49th Bob Hope Chrysler Classic has a very different feel to it this year. It is still a Pro-am event played on four different golf courses over five days but the style of the golf courses is changing beyond recognition.

In the past it was a very relaxed event, with the focus as much on the celebrity golfers as on the professionals. Players knew they had to go low on the short old style courses and winning scores of 30-under par or more were not uncommon.

In 2006 a new host course, The Classic Club, was added to the rota. It is a modern style resort course that plays long off the championship tees at 7,305 yards.

On Sunday last year when the wind blew strongly the course played an average of 2.76 shots over par. When you bare in mind that Carnoustie only played 2.38 shots over par for the week at the 2007 Open you can see a lot of the fun has been taken out of the tournament.

This year the SilverRock Resort has replaced Bermuda Dunes. Bermuda Dunes was ranked the third easiest course on the PGA Tour in 2007. SilverRock on the other hand is an entirely different kettle of fish.

The SilverRock Resort is similar to the Classic Club with water features, impressive looking bunkers and little rough.

It plays long at 7,360 yards. Even though it is built along the edge of the hills, like PGA West (Palmer Course), it is not protected by the hills. It is more exposed to the wind than even the Classic Club which sits in a slight bowl in the valley.

In relatively strong winds in practice on Monday the players struggled. Tournament Host George Lopez feels the professionals "won't shoot better than five under par." He may well be right as only two of the par fives (2 and 18) are realistically reachable in two strokes.
A very disgruntled Tim Herron believes that in the wind, level par would be a good score.

I know him well -plan to buy him dinner this year if we can hook up--he's 1st class--goes by the tag 8 iron--he has forgot more about course knowledge than Sal johnson and others will ever know.

Bit of a skinny price but a good result here last year and a good solid effort last week points to a good performance from Heath Slocum 1 pt e/w @28/1 paddypower

Chad Campbell for similar reasons, and he's one of the few class acts in the field 1pt e/w 22/1

Also like Charlie Hoffman 50/1 e/w generally available - good memories from last year coupled with a solid performance over the weekend at the mercedes.

McNeil over Warren -111 Here we have fairly hot versus a 1st event guy.

Slocum over Leonard +100 It's not easy to bet against Leonard, but everytime I go with him, he loses. So screw Leonard, he's losing to Slocum.

It's probably not a coincidence that most of the world's best players opt out of the grueling 90-hole week in Palm Springs. For mere mortals, the opportunity to play some of the world's best golf courses in a California resort town is a dream come true, but for the pros who have to endure four days of corporate schmoozing alongside a handful of mostly unrecognizable and/or inconsequential celebrities before facing the wind-blown Classic Club on Sunday, it's hardly a walk in the park. So while it's not exactly a surprise that the most highly-regarded player in this week's field is Stewart Cink, who is ranked just 24th in the Official World Golf Ranking, it does make for a wide open event. That fact is reflected in the fact that not a single player with at least three appearances in this event has managed to finish inside the top 10 more than one-third of the time.

Weekly Rankings
Let's get right to the point. Our one-of-a-kind weekly rankings include commentary on each player, so there's little need for me to reiterate who "The Favorites" or "The Best of the Rest" are ? you can see exactly who they are by going straight to our Owner's Edge Weekly PGA Player Rankings

BENCH/START
Think of this is a list of potential sleepers and busts. I'll point out a darkhorse or two to take home the trophy for those participating in Pick'em leagues, as well as some deeper options for those playing in more traditional, deeper fantasy formats.

START

Chad Campbell: Dating to late last year, the 2006 Bob Hope champ has a win and a total of four top-15 finishes in his last five PGA Tour events. He's started this year with two good performances in a row and is a darkhorse to win for the second time in three years.

Charles Warren: Chuck is one of my favorite sleepers this season. He finished first in Total Driving and 10th in the All-Around ranking last year. His putting has always held him back, but he took strides in that department after switching to a belly putter late in the season. He tied for sixth in his Bob Hope debut a year ago and could make some noise this week.

Anthony Kim: It's really just a matter of time before Kim cashes in on his vast potential. He will win at least once on Tour this year, and it could come this week. Kim is a Palm Springs native who has a ton of experience playing golf in the California desert. He carded a mediocre T45 at his Bob Hope debut a year ago, but gained valuable experience in the process.

John Senden: It was a rough start for Senden at the Sony Open last week, but I'm willing to give him a second chance this week. Senden finished 2007 with consecutive top-five finishes and his Bob Hope resume includes two top-six results in the last three years.

Jesper Parnevik: Consider this a rare inclusion on this side of the Bench/Start ledger for the eccentric Swede. Parnevik owns four top-five finishes at the Bob Hope, including a victory in 2000 and two such finishes in the last four years.

BENCH

Steve Flesch: Flesch seems to have run out of gas. Since winning the Turning Stone Resort Championship ? his seonc title in a two-month span ? last September, Flesch has missed two cuts and hasn't finished better than T20 in five subsequent tournaments. Worse, in 10 trips to the Bob Hope, Flesch has missed five cuts and never finished better than T16.

Charley Hoffman: After his season-opening victory, Hoffman went on to do absolutely nothing a year ago. He registered just one more top 10 in 29 events and missed 12 cuts along the way, leaving absolutely no reason to believe that he can reprise last year's magical finish.

Woody Austin: Austin's popularity obviously peaked at the President's Cup late last year, but don't let his resurgent 2007 season lull you into thinking he's an every-week fantasy option. His 2007 showing was the result of two great weeks ? a win at the Stanford St. Jude and a runner-up at the PGA Championship. Outside of those two events, he managed just one other top 10 in 25 events. That lack of consistency should make you wary of him even under the best of circumstances, and when he's finished no better than T53 with three missed cuts in his last five appearances at an event (as is the case this week), there's no reason to put him in your fantasy lineup.

David Duval: I've seen several people tout Duval as a sleeper this week. Please. Sure, he won this event in 1999, but that was at least one career ago for the enigmatic Duval. Rumors are that he's taking things a lot more seriously this season, but the same rumors have cropped up for the last five years or so. Don't believe it until you see consistent proof.

Player Trends
It's not a fool-proof indicator of future success, but golfers who fare well at a particular venue tend to do so time and again. With that in mind, we provide a list of players who have notable trends at this week's event (most recent results are listed first).

The Good
Lucas Glover (T13, T10)
John Senden (Two finishes of T6 or better in the last three years)
Fred Couples (The 1998 champ has carded seven top-10 finishes in 22 previous trips to Palm Springs)
Mark Calcavecchia (The veteran of 17 Bob Hope events has five career top-10 finishes)
Scott Verplank (Two of Verplank's three top 10s at this event have come in the last two years).

The Bad
John Daly (Two missed cuts, nothing better than T21 in the last seven trips to the Bob Hope)
Joe Durant (Since winning it all in 2001, Durant has gone; Cut, T43, T26, T48, T44, T18)
Carl Pettersson (Cut, T35, Cut, T50)
Jason Gore (T65, Cut, Cut, T22)
Woody Austin (T53, T75, Cut, Cut, Cut)

The Ugly
J.J. Henry (Cut, T71, T69, Cut, T52)

Perez wd, probably to watch his chargers, but gl on the others. I might be a little worried with calc being fatigued (short week) traveling from hawaii he looked gas to end the tourney, then factor 5 days in the desert. Good luck though

Staying away from outrights and top 5's this week, don't have any feel for who might win this one, or either be on top of the leaderboard.

In outright for tournament:

C. Dimarco over J. Parnevik - +130 - Laying 1 unit to win 1.3 units. DiMarco claims on his website to be 100% and painfree. If so, I like him in 5 day events. He is also signed up to go to Buick next week, so if he was questionable, I would think he would take a week off. We shall see, he could always pull out of the Buick.

J. Durant over T. Herron - 105 Laying 1.050 units to win a unit. I didn't like T. Herron's reaction to the new course. Seemed somewhat frustrated with the situation this week. We shall see.

Good luck.
